Alvin's Mini ACMA Field Report.Sunday, March 18, 2007, Combat Day, Irvington Field, Another nice day like yesterday, but a much larger turnout with Combat today and more folks present for spectating. We had ten entries in Combat, all chomping at the bit to get a bite of my Sonic 25 plane. I fooled them by not flying the Sonic, but flew Robert Sanderson's combat airplane. Others entered in Combat were Tony Farmer, David Lanzo, Justin Peacock, Lee Hughes, T.J.R., Steve Drake, Homer Anderson, Johnny Turner, and Garry Busby.
We had three rounds of hard fought combating and about half the airplanes did not make it to the finish without damage or being totaled out. In the end, First Place went to Lee Hughes, Second Place was Tony Farmer, and tied for Third Place was Alvin Reed and Steve Drake.
Lots of regular flying went on and it was a great day of model aviation fun. Very good eats as well, with grilled hot dogs, sausages, pork ribs, KFC Chicken, and Ice Cream.
Elton Sullivan was in town and was putting the finishing touches on the assembly of a new airplane

Tony Farmer as always it seems, does the grilling and even the cleanup today. Tony is about the best on the grill and always turns out some fantastic grub. Thanks Tony, we all bow to your exceptional cullinary skills.

Homer Anderson had out his mean combat wing with Billy Frost as helper/spotter.

Mississippi was well represented in combat with the team of Garry Busby from Vancleave and Kenny from Wade.

Way down in the South Pit, we see several combat teams sitting on ready for the start horn to sound for another round.

Steve and Johnny are morning over the remains of a combat plane that did not make out the round. Lots of scavageing remains for the good stuff today.

And the terror of any young boy straying into the field are a couple of Robert Sanderson's nieces Britney and Annie in their "Super Girl" capes.

The top finishers with their prizes in today's Combat were the team of L.T. and Lee Hughes (1st), Tony Farmer (2nd), and Steve Drake (3rd).

And not to be left out, way up on North end, the Scalers were represented by Joe Krebs, Al Ayler, and Henry Waltman posing so beautifully with their J-3 Cubs. They all flew today with some loose formation work and touch & go competition.
