Ps,,,,I was wondering-I have been flying on the simulator-(Pt40-cap232-and the
ultimate bipe)How accurate is the simulator to the real rc flying of the same model?
It seems I can land the bipe better,but, it turns on a dime-the cap drops fast.

Kenny, I hope you read that series of three emails I sent to all prospective and new members of our club. In one of them you'll find links to just about everything club-related that you'll ever need to know. (But I didn't have a specific link to the club rules in there. I have corrected that now!)

In regards to your question about the simulators being "accurate" in comparison to the real thing, well... That kind of depends. Real Flight G3.5 is the only simulator I've flown, and of the simulated models available, I haven't flown any of them as real R/C models. I can say though that if you set the weather conditions so that you have winds ranging from 7-15 mph and varying from right down the runway to any number of crosswind angles, it is very realistic in the way the model responds to these conditions. For regular practice of just normal pattern flying, I fly the Ultra Sport simulated model since it most closely resembles the size and power of the model I fly for real (Ugly Stik 40 - that is until I crashed it!, or the Shrike 40). If nothing else, the simulator is great for attempting manuevers beyond your current skill level without the worry of destroying a kit, engine, and radio pack. It will definitely speed up the learning process. Just my :twocents: on the subject.

I have found in my 18 years of instructing that people who have used computer simulators (and/or RC cars or RC boats) get the hang of flying faster than those who don't.

Oh, I just realized that perhaps computer simulators for modelers were not around way back then... :rolleyes:

But many student with simulator background find out really quick that the simulator is "NOT EXACTLY" like the real thing! What with variable crosswinds, the thought of crashing your pride and joy :yickes: , worrying about the other three planes flying around yours, and an instructor who is constantly talking in your ear... :D

Nevertheless, we instructors LOOOVE new students with simulator training! :yes:

Thank yall,I printed out the rules and go over them.also thank yall on the info on the simulator.I have not yet done the wind as of yet.I am still trying to figure it out.They are alot of planes on there.and alot of super graphics.It almost makes you feel like you are ready sooner than you really are.Aint SKEERED!hahahahaa-yeah right. :thumbup:

Speaking of rules, how is the new 2.4ghz technology going to impact the posted rules for impound and frequecy pins?

I did hear this about new 2.4 gig stuff.

An unused row of card slots near top of freq pin board will be marked for 2.4 gig users.
Don't know if pins will be used. but will provide slots for users to put their AMA or ACMA membership cards in order to be showing proof of membership while flying.

And for someone wondering "Who's those folks flying with no pin on radio and hey, they forgot to pull out their antenna!!!"
They can look on pin board and see the 2.4 gig users.

I don't know if this is offical or anything yet, but is just what I heard being discussed.

Thanks Alvin. That sounds like a reasonable approach that should be workable. As for pins, maybe one that just said 2.4ghz, for the sake of uniformity.

I haven't gone that route yet, but that new 12 channel that Futaba has announced has me drooling a bit. :P

I hate the thought of having pins for 2.4... but given the lesser evil, putting a card in the slot with no pin would be much better than an pin for each 2.4.. If 20 different people show up with 2.4 (and they will in the future) they shouldn't be limited to running to the pin board to get a pin when there's no frequency conflict... Just register once and go...

I think what it's about is not so much that you need a pin for 2.4 :no:

Yep, making sure that everyone is legal and a member... I can somewhat see that.. I can see someone over at the pin board now counting pins and trying to figure out the pin/radio/ama card ratio :rolleyes:

I just hate to see a lot of new rules (once again I can see this) thrown at a HUGE development for safety and reliability!!!!!

A couple of weekends ago a non-member was flying, and there was no AMA card on the board.

When I saw his short antenna I figured out that he was flying with that new system. I talked to him and he was legal and plans to be a club member soon.

But still, untill everyone has them, we should know who is flying, and whether that person is an AMA member or not.

I was the one who brought this thing up at the meeting.

No one ever said there would be a new rule added... <_<
