Title: I need help with my DSLR
Description: HELP

TJR - January 23, 2007 01:30 AM (GMT)
I've had my Canon Digital SLR for about 7 months now and I've taken some great photos with it, but I have a problem.(OK, I have lots of problems, but this isn't the place :yickes: ) The photos are so big (file size) that I can't post pictures in forum threads on other forums and I don't know enough about bits and bytes and computer lingo to re-size them. The camera came with Digital Photo Pro and PhotoStudio 5.5, and a utility disc. I've tried to read these directions, but I just can't comprehend them. If anyone has any working knowledge or can intelligently de-cypher this stuff, please HELP ME :crying:

My system is a DELL PC running Windows XP Media Edition, Buttloads of unused memory (had it built for CAD)

Not being familar with the graphics programs you mention, I will take a stab at it.

Open a picture in graphics program.
You will have to look around to find the resizing tool. For web presentation, resize to about 800 pixels width.
If you see a cropping tool, use it to get rid of extra useless portion of picture around edges before resizing.

Then select "save as" and in that menue, you will select JPG as saved picture format. Also in same area there should be a compression tool. You can choose the amount of JPG/jpeg compression. Try 75% quality or 25% compression depending on the format used in particular graphics program.

Good luck, keep on playing with it. Confidence is high.

I'll have to give it a try tomorrow. I need to get my beauty rest now before work. :D

Click here for the microsoft image resizer for XP. Download and install it. Once installed, go to the directory with the picture files, highlight them...

jonkoppisch - January 23, 2007 12:34 PM (GMT)
hold your mouse on the highlighted section and right click, select 'resize pictures'

jonkoppisch - January 23, 2007 12:34 PM (GMT)
select what size you want them and walaa, you've just resized the pics without opening any additional programs. You can also resize as many as you want at 1 time....

After you get them to the size that you want make sure to save them as some other file so you dont mess up the larger file. You can add something to the file name to let you know that it has been resized. :D

John - I used the link you provided, but all I ended up with was a "Read Me" file in my "Programs", under "PowerToys for Windows XP". What did I do wrong?

jonkoppisch - January 23, 2007 11:22 PM (GMT)
You probably wont see any new programs etc under you're programs folder. It just adds the settings under the mouse when you right click the picture file.

PS, don't worry about renameing the file. Unless you specify the new file to replace the old file it will just rename the new file to *(small).jpg etc

OK John, that worked, but I had to open the picture from "My Pictures" and not from any of the support programs that came with the camera. Now though, how do I insert an image into a reply on the RCGroups forum? Do I right click to copy the image and then paste it in the body of the reply? I copied it, but when I went to paste it, that option wasn't highlighted. See where it says "image attached (click thumbnail to enlarge), I tried to insert a photo.

All that just to get a picture of a Cub.

jonkoppisch - January 24, 2007 12:43 AM (GMT)
I usually view my picture files from windows explorer or go to 'my computer', double click then go to the folder where the pics are stored at. I select whatever pic that I want to resize, go ahead and do that. When the new pic file is made then I go to the forum, make the post. Down at the bottom of the post you can browse for the picture file that you want to upload. I just browse to where the new pic file is and then upload it....

Whew!!!!!!! Thanks Jon! I finally managed to get a picture to upload. Now if I can just find the one I accidentally sent to the clipboard the other day...
This photo is from the July Fly-In.
I just noticed CrashKit's response. It's only one of several pics. But, it still isn't visible to me. I get the thumbnail verbage.

One more question if you please Jon. How come in some of the previous posts I ca see a thumbnail image, but in others, all I see are the words "Image Attached - Click to Enlarge"

TJR - January 24, 2007 02:17 AM (GMT)
Sorry Alvin, all I see are dead people, I mean words.

Was that your first heli Alvin?

It looks as if they were steam powered back then.

The image looks a little fuzzy. Was that circa 1868?

Scott,
That bottom chopper does look sort of like Victorian Era time machineish huh.

TJR,
Notice the thumbnail picture in below screen shot of forum page.
You don't see the thumbnail picture?
How about the rest of yawl. Everyone should be seeing the thumbnail indicated in screen shot.

No, I wasn't able to see that. Could it be something I've got set from my security settings?

Sounds like the problem is probably local to your computer.

Could be a security setting issue or browser setting.
Maybe something in security or browser is selected to not auto open/load attachments or something similar.

You notice when you see old pictures of those heli's, they are always sitting on a table?

Did they actually fly? I am guessing they did, but they never stayed aloft long enough for someone to grab a camera and get a shot.

Hmmmmmmmm...

Yep, as this early "flight" pictures shows, the photographers just barely had time to grab their cameras and run. :yickes:
And this flight won the first chopper meet contest. From reading in the book, I don't think that any actual flight was expected, but Dieter was ready to give it a try. Up till then, they would just get together with their new chopper designs and admire the mechanics and control setups and talk about how they ought to really fly. As it turned out, several of the first designs were capable of flight, but they just did not realize the demands made on the pilot to keep it flying. Learning back then was very difficult without modern electronics, engines, flight sims, and no one else who could fly one to help.
