What is the best way to break in a 2 stroke 46 ax?I have been told to run it on the ground and adjust it,run a tank of fuel through it or put it in the air.
Pleeze open for suggestions.kenny2 :hmm:

Depends some on if the engine has a ring or not.

Either way, I would run a tank through it rich on the ground to see how it is running and to make sure it will suck the tank dry.

Then put it in the air and fly with engine on rich side a few flights adjusting engine main needle valve a click or two leaner each flight till it will hold a steady two cycle run.

Ringed engine likes a rich break in. You can run it real rich for a longer period of time and it will break in nicely.

Non-ringed engine does not like as rich a breakin as ringed.
Engine has to get up to normal temperature for piston to properly mate to cylinder for good fit. Start it out closer to the break point between four cycling and two cycling, but still on rich side.

After a few flights you will then be brokein enough to start fine tuning the idle setting.

The way I brake in the OS46AX is to run it as a fast 2-cycle (several hundred rpm less then peak) I run the engine for 2- minute periods. I then shut it dowm and allowed it to cool to the touch befor restarting. The brake in time is at least 20 minutes. Then you can fly the plane with the engine a little on the rich side for about 5 or 6 flights befor you start to adjust it for full bower. This is what thay call heat cycling. For the 46 I use a 11x6 prop.

Like Alvin said you need to keep the temperature up so the piston can properly mate to the cylinder....
