began.I was looking at elec ones.what do yall think?I will try to be out tomorrow but,not for sure.i still cant shake this cold.I dont want to relapse or give it to anyone.
thanks for the info.kenny2
Kenny, we have one instructor who can do the buddy box with choppers, Tal Fowler. But with choppers you really need to learn to hover at low altitude first then gradualy work up to forward flight. Some learn fast and move to forward flight in a few weeks or months while others (and they know who they are) take several years. Electrics are a good way to begin learning with considerable less expense if (when) you have a crash. I started with a blade CP but if I had it to do over I would go with an align T-Rex. Simulators are very helpfull also, I recommend being able to hold one in a steady hover with the simulator before trying with a model chopper, also with the electric and the glow powered choppers you can install training gear which is very good for starting out.
Be warned though, once you start down the dark side of helicopters you are at great risk of becoming addicted and subject to much suffering. :yickes: It's all worth it though once you get past all the learning curves. :D
Helicopters are for people who enjoy working on mechanical things, learning to get one properly setup and flying the way you like takes as much patience as learning to fly it. The good news is their are lots of guys at the field to help you out with that, I pick up new pointers and learn new tricks from guys who have been it at longer than me all the time.

Learning to fly a heli is very hard. I've been trying for around 1 month. I've got a blade CP. So far i'm on my 3rd set of rotors and 1 boom and frame. The last crash cost me $45. As the heli's get bigger so do the crash kit cost. I tell myself to get rid of it and take my losses but i just keep on trying. Learning to fly a heli is not as easy as a plane was. I had one flight with an instructor and then i was solo. I can still barely hover without it flying all over the place. I have a 8' cardboard square and when it drifts off of that i shut it down and put it back on the cardboard. I have still not had a flight that stayed over the cardboard. I'll just be happy when i can hover and keep the tail pointed toward me.
