Hey FYI bulletin to anyone who has purchased JR's brand new servo the DS821, the price was great for the Torque and speed numbers 29.99 for a digital servo how could you go wrong. I purchased three at HTUSA last week to use on the elevator, aileron and pitch controls of my brand new helicopter.

I was just a few miner details away from having it ready to fly and planned on flying it today, when I noticed that suddenly the aileron controlls were not functioning, I examined the servo and discovered that the output shaft had sheared off even with the case of the servo. then I looked at the other two and as soon as I moved the pitch up and down 2 or 3 times, and made sure there was no binding or stress on the servo it suddenly sheared off also, no snapping sound it just fell off limply. The 3rd one still looked good but that was it for me and these servos, I began removing them and when I put the ball link plyers on the third servo the horn fell off shearing exactly the same as the first two. I had not put any ab normal stress on any of these servos nor had any of them been binding or trying to move beyond the mechanical limits of the helicopter.

Hobby Town USA was very great and quickly let me choose different servos to exchange them out. Looks like the Titan will have to wait another week for it's first flight but that is OK with me because I know if I had flown it today before discovering the defective servos it would have been trashed.

I expect a recall to be issued by JR in the immediate future if not sooner.

Bring the servos back to Hobbytown and we can see if Horizon will replace them for ya Mr. Steve...

Later,

thanks Slappy but I had already returned them before I went to the field today, one of your partners in excellent R/C sales and service Jamel let me exchange them for some NON JR servos. They are at the store so you can check them out next time you work if they haven't already been shipped out to where ever you guys send good servos gone bad.

No matter what anyone thinks, there is NO WAY that I did anything that caused all three servos to come apart in the same way in the exact same place. The three failures were identicall, I bet you won't be able to tell which output shaft came off of which servo.

I am just glad that I discovered the defect before attempting to test fly my brand spanky new helicopter, a bad crash on the first test flight would have probably caused me to actually vomit on the pilot pads. As a result of the close call, I am proceeding with great caution and will be looking over the chopper multiple times under a microscope before thinking about getting it in the air. I will probably start over at step one of the instruction book and double and triple check everything I can this week and hopefully be ready Saturday to set it free and let it fly like it was born to do.
