Title: where is the competition
Mr.Incredible - July 20, 2006 02:58 AM (GMT)
I seem to remember a forum topic (that I could not find) where certain people (Tony and Frits and David Lanzo may have had an honorable metion) were claiming to be ahead of me in Chopper flying progress and claimed that they would stay ahead of me. I was looking in my rear view mirror and all I could see were little dots so small that I couldn't even distiguish one of you rookie heli pilots from the other, come on guys turn up the head speed and let those choppers rip, your missing all the fun. :fullmoon:
Mike McGlaughlin was proving to be worthy competition for awhile and beet me to autos but since his crash a few weeks ago I am concerned he is not getting back on the horse soon enough and his chopper days will soon be a distant memory.
Come on David just do one forward circle without the buddy box, whats the worst that can happen. If you crash it then what have you lost, you never fly it anymore anyway.
Oh and I almost forgot didn't Andrew Smith buy a Hawk not to long ago, come to think of it, when was the last time anyone has seen Andrew? Maybe we should file a missing pilots report! I guess Amber got tired of the R/C crapola and told Andrew that he had some chores to do or something like that. :D There is no shame in being whipped Andrew, just admit it! (just kidding there is plenty of shame in it, I would be humiliated if I were you) :paci:

Hey Steve, I was glad to see that my name was not mentioned in your above report.
Like the Ford truck I drive, it seems that I am "First On Race Day" with my chopper.
Yep, it seems that chopper flying is very demanding and and most RCers are just not up to the task.
TONY F - July 20, 2006 12:43 PM (GMT)
 THIS IS TURE STEVE .You are doing very well after 10 or so crashers keep up the good work you are making Rob at HTUSA RICH. :P :hysterical: maybe one day you will beet Alvin in drag racing. :P
Flying Dutchman - July 20, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
If I recall correctly I flew FOUR flights last Saturday, but because of the photographer I only flew once on Sunday.
I've been doing this helicopter thing going on four years now. I did most of my crashing the first couple of years, as some of you recall. :yickes: Now, I prefer to slow down and refine my flying, not by keeping up with the Drakes, but by methodically getting better at nose-in hovering and other things. My problem before was that too many people were pushing me into doing things I was not ready for.
But now — and you can blame my age and maturit level... — I prefer the low and slow flying over that balls-out flying. After all, if you can fly at full speed for 200 ft., you can do it for ten miles! What skill is there in that, I ask you...
I would like to get my helis tuned a bit better so I can get into the maneuvers more, but... I'm still having some difficulty in setting up my helis myself, but, I'm learning and I'm in no hurry!
Not sure what happened to Michael and Andrew... Such nice and powerful helis, and they both started out SO strong... ;)
Tony would be more agressive if he wasn't so in love with his flamy color scheme. Does he even fly forward circles any more? Last weekend he flew with Tal on the buddy box — AGAIN! What's up with that, Tony? <_<
Poor David! :crying: I think we all agree that David DOES need much encouragement from all of us...
Ah, and then there're those young and impulsive ones! Whatever has happened to L.T. and Jake? I hear they are now only into COLLECTING helis...
I'll be so glad when Elton, Randolph and Jeff will get their helis going soon so we'll have more people to talked about... :D
And don't forget James. He'll be the one to watch now as far as promising up-n'-coming heli pilots go...
See you rotor heads at the field!
4star40 - July 20, 2006 02:10 PM (GMT)
I think If you get atleast 3 instead of 2 crashes...we will all gwt a pay raise.....since nobidy has picked alvin...HEY ALVIN whatcha do with the bananas?
Mike - July 20, 2006 02:45 PM (GMT)
I've told you guys already, I needed a bigger challenge so I went back to refining my skills with airplanes. It's not all about full throttle inverted passes, you know!
My Raptor is fixed now I think, so I might be flying it again this weekend.
jsansing - July 20, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)
I was at the field with my chopper Tuesday evening. Had the whole field to myself. Flew 3 tanks before dark. Where was everyone else B)
I do want to say thanks to those that have helped me get into chopper flying, especially Alvin.....and Fritz too. Without you guys, I would still be on the ground.

From what I saw today and the more the pain the more the gain, Steve advanced a couple more levels in his chopper flying ability.
I can't say much more as I promised Steve that I would sort of keep the details on the quiet side.
Was no real error on Steve's part, just a forced auto way out in field.
Steve used his vast store of newly aquired auto ability to bring the chopper down as best any could expect considering that he could not see the last ten feet of auto. :(
Mike - July 21, 2006 03:57 AM (GMT)
Well, strong expletive (I typed that), someone needs to share the inside info here.
Mr.Incredible - July 21, 2006 07:38 AM (GMT)
I guess the fact is I ran my mouth (or fingers rather) here on this forum and got what I deserved.
Alvin basically covered the facts, I was flying fast and furious, doing autos, stall turns, loops and working on few new things for the week end. Everything was going great and the raptor was performing at a peak level when suddenly while I had the chopper way out over the field and pretty high, the engine started whining and the chopper started falling. Alvin yelled "hit the auto switch" I did and it went as well as I could hope considering how far away it was, tail boom strike smashed up the tail boom but no other damage I can see so far except for the main gear is stripped completely all the way around. Alvin and I dropped the motor and inspected, I think we agree that the clutch was worn and somehow caused the main gear to strip out in the air. It seems un-likely the gear stripped after impact since I had hit the throttle hold and auto'd down and the engine was at idle when it hit and still running at idle when I retrieved the fallen bird.
Parts is already on order but unless someone can front me a Tail Boom, main Gear, and clutch for a Raptor .50 then no Raptor for me this week-end.
Don't retire yet HTUSA employees, remember you don't stock Raptor .50 parts so I am sending my money to heliproz AGAIN !!!
Mike - July 21, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
They don't stock hardly any Raptor 30 parts either.

Steve,
Ya know what you can do? How about kiss my a$$!!! :fullmoon: I do have a life other than RC!!! Between house hunting and going out of town and entertaining Andrews parents when they come to town, there isn't any time left. Besides, Andrew was just out there the weekend before last!!! Now that you have gotten so good and you don't crash as much it's not so much fun!!!!

Besides, I've been trying to make up for his lack of spectacular crashes:
That was Steve's fault by the way, he made me move pads.

OK children, play nice  ..........................or not.
Be carefull Amber, Steve might ask you to make it bare. :fullmoon:

Woah !! easy there Amber, :yickes:
I was attempting to flick Andrew some flack to get him fired up and get back out to the field, by acuseing him of being whipped so he would feel compelled to come out this week end and prove his manliness.
That seems a bit futile now, I mean with his women having to fight his Forum battles for him, he would have to show up with his gums stuffed full of beach nut and a couple young hot babes in dazy duke shorts on each arm, just to get back up to David Lanzo's manhood status. :hysterical:
Sorry Mike I thought you could walk and chew gum at the same time, next time I'll know better. :spin:

Hey whatch it <_<
steve its kinda hard to keep up with you if you are going to go through this fase of a crash a day keeps the doctor away.....................frankly we couldn't get the parts shipped in fast enough to satisfy your crash-tastic ways. I as a HTUSA employee appologise for the inconvience but you did get a discount...... unlike heliproz :P
bye bye discount :plane_crash:

I do appreciate the good service and disounts at HTUSA and the friendly employees, I always do all my crash parts buying there when I crash the HAWK but as far as I have seen you have never stocked a Raptor .50 crash kit or very many parts at all for it. Get two or 3 in stcok and I am sure that they will seel before to long, I am not the only one flying one right now (just the only one besdies Alvin flying one like Bat out of hades, but the odds of Alvin crashing are slim to none and slim doesn't come around much anymore)
For the record my crashing days are getting farther and farther apart, this latest spill was due to mechanical failure not a wild daredevil stunt that was doomed to an in-evitable crash. I almost saved it with an auto and if it had been closer when it happened so I could actually see it all the way to the ground I believe I would have saved it and just needed to replaced the failed parts.

You are doing well GT, but I am not getting scared yet. I'll keep my eye on you though, and if you start getting close I'll step up the pace and make sure you are always in my shadow playing catch up.
Seriously BG, I think the auto's are a great idea, but first you have to get the heilcopter up and into position. If you want I can fly it up and get it into auto position, then I will hand you the controller and you can hit the switch and bring it on down nice and smooth. :parachute: (of course as soon as I hand you the controller you understand that I am going run far and fast) :yickes:
You could be the first RC'er to go straight from Hovering into Auto's, completely bypassing forward flight. Years from now people would still be talking about the legend of 'ol LZ Hughes.
Mike - July 24, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
I'd like to see ol JZ take up airplanes again myself, so he can get back to some real flying instead of this staying in one place nonsense.

Your Spanish must be about as bad as your English, LT. <_<
Even the online translators couldn't translate it into understandable English...

Why don't all you fellows leave poor Frits alone.
The more you mess with him, the more errors will be in the report.
And I want all the things about me in the reports to be as close to correct as possible.
Or as near as Frits can get.
For real, Frits and Fat Boy do an excellent job on the weekly and special reports.
I realy enjoy reading them and it makes my day.

A good solution to that if you ask me, would be for Frits to write one sentence about you and then cut and paste it in the report for every day that you show up at the field.
I will leave it up to Frits to write his own dialog but I would suggest something like "Tony hovered his Hawk again because he is still too scared to really fly it." :hysterical:

My portuguese is a little rusty but, as best I can tell it translates to this:
The new grasshopper of Steve will learn that the patience is one virtue and the ability of the fly will come but to know that you will pay the price of hahahahahahahahahaha of the electric noise.....
Which makes about as much sense as anything that BC has ever posted on this forum in english.
If you are trying to make a dig at me JW about crashing alot, even though I am one of the fastest advancing and most skilled RC pilots of the modern era, then I say to you:

Before the translation and the re-translation I believe if I remember right it said.
"At least I can fly without being attached to the umbilical chord of an instructors radio known as the buddy box so he can save my butt when I inevatably screw the pooch."
But I like "conserve my extremity" better than "save my butt" and I shall now make that a part of my regular vocabulary. i find it interesting that "screw the pooch" seems to be a universal phrase.
