Hello everybody...I am so happy that there is a such a nice forum from green iguanas. I wish that there is a person who knows about this problem. I Have a green iguana 1.5 years now and is only 140 grams...He seems to have a good mood and eat his food normally. Temperature is good and i think i made a very good place to live...BUT he has bloated jawbones (the bottoms) and the right hand also and two days ago has two finfers bloated too. I dont know what to do. I went to the vet and he told me that the problem is the shortage of CALCIUM. I give calcium to him but the bloat gain worst. Please if anyone knows help me...

It sounds like your iguana has MBD (metabolic bone disease). Even if you give your iguana plenty of calcium, he cannot absorb it if he doesn't have a UVB light. Igs need a UVB light specially made for reptiles (available in pet stores) so that they can produce vitamin D3, which they need to matabolize calcium. If you have a UVB light, what brand is it? Not all of them produce UVB.

Your iguana probably needs to see a reptile vet to treat the MBD because it sounds like it's already pass the "mild" stage. I'm suprised your vet didn't treat the MBD when you first brought him in. You might want to look into switching vets.

I had a purplish colored full spectrum light. It say full spectrum on the box to I guessed it had UVB in it, but i found out it doesn't. I think it is zoo med.

I took my iguana to another vet and he gave him shots of calcium to help out a bit. He also said to keep the UVB light on longer. I went to the pet store and got a zoo med desert flourescent and hopefully he'll start getting better soon. Thanks for the advice!
