Title: Retained Shed

Hi everyone! As some of you know, I just rescued a fairly big female ig from a friend. She has a lot of spikes that have multiple layers of shed on them, I guess from a bad environment. I have been soaking her everyday and it has started to come off a little bit, but not all the way. What can I do to help it off without hurting the spines?

My Anna had the same problem when I got her. One thing you can do is that when you giver her a bath, get a bath cloth and drape it over her spines. Let it sit for a while and then move it to another section of spines. This really helps to loosen the skin. Another thing you can do is to get some vaseline and rub it on her spines every night before she goes to sleep. If you keep doing that and peel the skin off when it gets loose enough, you'll probably be able to get all of it off.

Also check to make sure that she hasn't retained skin around the toes or base of the claws because skin trapped there can cause the claw or toe to fall off.
