Hi, my name is Tamara and I was looking for information for a girlfriend and stumbled across this site. Pretty cool, gorgeous pictures, and considering I have a green iguana named Offspring who is 13 years old, I thought I should hook up with you guys. She is the most beautiful, gentle, 'giant' I've ever met and I cherish every second with her. During the hurricane season of 2004, 4 days after Hurricane Charley ravaged Orlando, she got out of my sight outside for a minute and then she was gone. We looked for her almost 24/7 with posters up everywhere and nothing.
I asked my church, friends, family, and even strangers to pray for her and on the 18th day, my husband Frank went out to the pool and she was just sitting there looking at him like 'okay, I'm home now feed me.' When he brought her in the house I thought I would pass out. I couldn't breathe and thought I was seeing things. He put her down on the floor where I was already sitting from the weak knees and she crawled up to my neck and we loved and kissed each other as long as she would and then she squiggled down and headed for the kitchen. It was the most amazing story ever and although she was sick with an upper respiratory infection, she was unharmed. She had lost a little weight and was down to 11 lbs. but she's around 13 lbs. now and from nose to tail almost 5 ft.
While she was missing, we found 2 baby green iguanas and named them Cisco and Carlos in 'honor' of hurricane Francis and hurricane Charley (when we found each one). My best friend adopted the little boy Cisco and renamed him Gator (wonder why) and we recently learned the other baby is a female but since she already responds to Carlos, Carlos it is. I am going to post this to see if it goes through and if I have success I'll attempt to send pictures of our beautiful girls.
Awesome story... i'm really glad you found her :-D i can't wait to see those pictures... this site moves pretty slow
Hello Tamara. It was so nice to read your introduction story. It was nothing short of a wonderful miracle that Offspring came back home. I am so glad for the both ( all) of you!
I live in the southern part of Michigan (south @ city of Jackson) where it obviously get's too cold at night for iguana's, even in the summer.
I have two iguana's: Pac-Man/ male & Angel/ female, both are just over two years of age. I nearly lost Angel last summer due to her jumping out of my arms and up into a nearby tree. That scare only lasted 2 1/2 hrs - before we were able to saw off the tree arm and down came limb & iguana safely into a blanket four of us were holding out to catch them! :o I was SO lucky to have her back!
Thirteen years is a wonderful time. What advice can you pass on to have such a wonderful, adoring, loving, long living iguana such as Offspring ? "OK, where is my dinner?" lol
My two are such characters! The other two iguana's that you found, named, cared for, and found new homes for - were really lucky to have had you...(Bless You!)
Write back when you can.
Thank you.
