Title: Broken Tail / Handling Problem Continues

Tord410 - September 24, 2005 03:26 AM (GMT)
My little baby broke his tail off at the end of Feb, 10 inches. 3 inches have grown back already. I talked with the vet about the topic of the tail growing back, two responses from two different vets, a) from were he broke it off he might not grow it back, B) and the other vet said that he will grow it back, but maybe not all of it. He is a baby, less than a year old. I just wanted other opinions on the topic. It was a very clean break, he whipped it on a table when he jumped out of his tank while I was out of town (he's bad for everyone, not just me).

He's the crazy, wild child that I asked about a couple of months ago. He's not any better, just bigger. I am just hoping that when he is big enough to catch, it will be easier to handle, well, catch him, he's just too crazy! He's getting the best of me, I'll tell you that much, he's just lucky that I love him so much :) He'll get better sooner or later, right? I still just think that I got a bad seed, I know that that sounds bad, but it really is true, he's crazy!

They'll usually grow back, but it won't be as long as his original tail. When my first iguana broke his tail, it grew back very long and nice-looking. When he got a little bigger, it was almost as long as his original and looked like he had been born that way (as if one of the black bars on his tail just extended down to the tip). I actually liked it more than his original.

It just depends on his genes and the nature of the break. It might grow back nicely, it might not. The thing that he has in his favor is that it happened when he was a baby. That gives him plenty of time to grow it back nice and long again. They aren't so nice-looking when they break as adults.

Lance has grown back over 7 out of the 10 inches of his tail!

I have a pic to post, but I don't know how to do it on this site. It won't copy and paste. Also how do I get a profile pic, it says that I don't have permission?
