Soap superstar Susan Lucci (Erica, All My Children) looks excitedly forward to her next big role: Daytime's most glamorous granny!
Lucci's daughter, Passions star Liza Huber (Gwen), says she is expecting her first child with husband Alexander George Hesterberg III.
"Oh my gosh, we are just over the moon," Liza tells TVGuide.com. "The baby's due date is December 31! It's really the end of December or very early January, but you know how they like to give you just one date. It wound up being New Year's Eve. So it's going to be a very busy, very exciting holiday season."
Uh oh! Doesn't this mean people will try to give Liza's baby combined birthday and Christmas gifts? "Oh, no," she laughs. "Are you kidding? You're talking to the girl whose mother's birthday is December 23. There are nooo combo gifts. Kids don't deserve to get shafted, so there will be a definitive Christmas and a definitive birthday, no matter what. My mom always says having your birthday at the holidays is really fun because everything's decorated and everyone's in a festive mood."
Speaking of La Lucci, "she's gonna give new meaning to the word grandmother," Liza points out. "She certainly doesn't look like a grandmother! This is the first grandchild for both my parents and my husband's parents, so everyone is beside themselves with joy."
Liza's Passions costar, McKenzie Westmore (Sheridan), recently went off on maternity leave. Will Gwen need to be temporarily recast like Sheridan? "I'll definitely be taking a maternity leave," Liza says. "Whether they'll recast or not, I have no idea. I think recasting is great. I wouldn't mind being recast during my maternity leave because it keeps the story line going. It keeps my character, Gwen, working!"
