Title: SOD: Thumbs Down article
Description: Distant Relatives

Alicia Keys - January 22, 2006 09:11 AM (GMT)
Here's the article from this week's SOD. I'll hold my tongue, and try to scan it later.

QUOTE
Since Whitney and Chad are only on-screen about twice a month, it's not too much to ask for their scenes to have some weight is it? Unfortunately, this once PASSIONate pair we've invested in since 1999 has turned into a dud of a duo.

Whitney used to be a spitfire, but since joining the convent, she seems to have taken a vow of tedium. There are only so many "final" good-byes to her loved ones the audience can endure. And it's a waste to relegate Whit's talented portrayer, Brook Kerr, to the back-burner. Meanwhile, Chad, who was always a good guy, spends all of his time brawling about business and raising Whitney's son in a a recording studio.

With incestuous sibs, a beautiful, lovelorn young nun, a father who unwittingly adopted his own biological child and a mystical setting where anything can happen, PASSIONS has a the makings for a whopper of a sudsy tale, and with more attention paid to them, Whitney and Chad could once again be habit-forming.

PLEASE respond. Would love to hear comments.

HA! dud of a duo. speak the truth!

what they said ab whit and brook, so spot on!

to me the whole thing sounds like an article big upping brook, masked by the veil of being about 'chadney.' these ppl love brook, is there any mention of charles' amazing acting ability? no. i think they related wanted to say put her back on screen, but in a diff SL, one thats actually good.

i want to see the scan! what chadney pic did they use? my motto is 'do not count it out if it can be cropped.'

I don't think they "love" Brook at all.

I think that they fear the fact that it has been proven that JER doesn't care squat about dudney.

If they cared one iota about Brook, they would have mentioned her lack of screen time with her parents, with her sister, with her friend.

Moreover, they would have been honest and admit that the ONLY time we saw spunky Whitney was when she was in scenes with her parents, her sister, her friend, and Fox.

NEVER dud. She is a pod with dud.

If they wanted to be honest, and they supposedly miss seeing her and love her, they would have mentioned the story she had with Fox and her family.

So this letter/article is full of BS.

Whitney is a dud because she's with dud.

And it will stay that way. Quite simple.

JER and the mags want the sefety of a black couple, so they REFUSE to view Brook's work without the attachment of dudney.

Brook is better off BACKBURNED. And I pray it stays that way. No Brook is better than dudney.

Dud of a Duo IS RIGHT!!!!

Just shows me that SOD knows Brook is talented and Divins is NOT. Or they would have mentioned his talent. I guess its too much of a stretch even for them.

I'm glad BK's talent is getting recogniziton but I'm disappointed that they had to pimp CRAPNEY in the process especially when they spin and outright LIE about the damn CRAPNEY s/l. Dud is a good guy Puleeze and LMAO raising a child in a recording studio WOW I guess he is bucking for father of the year.

I also do NOT think this article is as simple as pimping Crapney since they don't give a ratz azz about the pairing I exepct there is a bigger agenda pimping going on here. I'll wait for the next few weeks cause I have a feeling we'll see what it is.

SERIOUSLY Sylv, there's nothing...NOTHING for me to comment on.

Sigh. I still don't know what to make of this article. Clearly, at best, it's a backhanded compliment of Brook's talent. But backhanded compliments are called that for a reason. WHY must she only be viewed with Divins? She is NOT going to make him better, or even an actor. Brook's job is not to save a dead couple. You don't ask any OTHER actress on the show to take on that challenge. It's not her fault they resigned the no talent hack.

They could've very easily praised her OUTSIDE of this pairing. It's not that hard at all. Most of her scenes lately haven't even been with him, they've been with Theresa. Why not comment on the beautiful glimpse of Whitney we saw at T's wedding? That scene had more than a little weight to it no? She was more than spunky, she had a pair. She fought back. Had she been in front of Al much longer, she would've given him a famous right hand. I felt her working up to it. But no, that scene is an afterthought. Instead, they preach about how she sould be in a scene with an actor THEY can't even bring themselves to name.

To be threatened by something so much, you have to believe in it. To hate it, you have to believe in it. The devil fears God because he knows that what he does is real. SOD is well aware of where the talent on Passions lies. It's just not within the people they like to put on the cover of their magazines representing the show. But the funny thing about talent is that it always seems to make itself known. The first time, they made the mistake of giving her a story AWAY from Divins and she outshined just about everybody she had scenes with. They won't go down that road again. But it doesn't matter really. No matter how much politicing goes on, or how many word games mags and writers play, you can't cultivate talent that doesn't exist, and you can't stifle that which does. So I'll take the backhanded compliment in stride and say thank you SOD, for telling us what we already know. She's one talented actress, ain't she.
