Happy New Year ALL.
Great Year End Review, R.
Hence why I will never watch the show again.
They sacrifice stories to further stereotypes.
So, you mean to tell me that everyone in town knows Simone is gay except Whitney? You men to tell me that fool JER has shown every member of of the Russells finding out Simone is gay, except for Whitney? Even Irma? What about Liz? Does she know? Everyone but WHITNEY? Simone's ONLY sister? You mean to tell me that it is more important to show Simone saving Jessica than her talking to her sister and telling the incest boy to keep away?
JER is in a race to cancel Passions!
And frankly, I think that's what most soaps are trying to do. Either that, or they've bought into the view that people who watch shows are idiots and have no lives, and therefore will accept any garbage they are fed. The point is to make sure they are fed. Sorry, but while Y&R is classier, I think about the wasted talents of Peter Bergman, Kristoff, Victoria Rowell, the woman who plays Jill, etc. and realize that they essentially do the same thing.
What was the point in making Malcolm Lily's father (something the Bells said they wouldn't do)? Giving Shemar a story. Mind you, not Malcolm: but SHEMAR. How obtuse is that?
Here's something else: Why didn't Jack and Neil start their own compnay after the Fall? Because Neil is allowed to be strong around his family, but outside of that box, he must remain a PUNK. Brad, the poolboy, can be a threat, can come between Sharon and Nick, but Neil, an educated black man, must stay insdie his box. His options: sleep with Dru's sister, or wait for Dru to sleep with his brother. It all much stay inside the BOX.
Here's something else: I just read that Lily was re-casted. I want to go on record as saying that if.. IF Lily is played by an African American actress (as we know Cristel was not AA), Daniel/Lily will slowly go the way of Devon/Lily for good. MARK these words. Devon will morph into Neil, and Lily into Dru.. Hence, Jack Smith won't have to worry about keeping Kristoff for too long.
But I digress:
QUOTE: >>>>>Alistair could have been very involved with his family and still have been evil, and it could have been entertaining. Him pitting Chad against Fox could have been a good story. Alistair could have easily used Chad against Julian and pulled him into the darkness. <<<<<<<
R, you know JER can't do that with divins. He is unlikeable in the role. PERIOD. He has NO DEPTH. PERIOD. He looks gross with Brook and lacks chemistry. PERIOD. He is not convincing as EVIL.. he is not convicing as GENUINE.. he is not convincing as LOVING.. he is not convincing as PAINED.. he is not convincing as THREATENING.. he is not convincing as COMPETENT.. he is not convincing as HIP-HOP.. he is not convincing as CORPORATE.. he is not convincing as INTELLIGENT.. he is not convincing as anything but a petualant prep-boy with a selfish-streak. Pair him with Al, and I'd feel Al was wasting his time. divins can't play Al's protege. He can't ACT. Viewers will forever be left thinking, is he for real. Viewers wiould need those little text bubbles that Precious used to get that showed fans what she was thinking.
In a way life is funny because I think back to reading one of your posts long ago.. about how excited you were about the prospect of a Fox/Chad rivalry.. about the prospect of some corporate stories.. about the prospect of an all out war between the two.. And then there was Divins. All hope must end with him.
Isn't it funny how many other stories were affected when JER decided to go into the Black Hole of Crapney?
1) Any more Fox/Julian scenes?
2) Any more Fox/Chad/Julian scenes?
3) Any more Chad/Julian scenes?
4) Any Chad/Eve scenes?
5) Any more Whitney/Fox scenes?
6) Any more Whintey/Julian scenes?
7) Any more Fox/Ethan scenes?
8) Any more Fox/Theresa scenes?
9) Any more Chad/Alistair scenes?
10) I won't go into Sheridan, Fancy, etc. since you covered that nicely.
What was the point of making Chad the kid if he wasn't going to have scenes with ANY of the Cranes? If he was going to turn into a Russell?
I have a feeling that viewers will be asking the same questsion next year when it turns out that Chad is Liz/Julian's.
JER will not put Divins in any sensible scenes with Amelia. PERIOD. Although showing the obsessive and repugnant similarities between mother and son could be interesting. But knowing JER, not gonna happen.
11) What happened to the complex relationship of Fox/Julian? (That was Foxney motivated, so it had to end.)
12) What happened to Julian getting to know his son, Chad? (That, too, was about Foxney, so it ended.)
13) What happened to Whitney's blaming Julian for the loss of her parent's marriage? (Again, Foxney motivated, so I'm guessing that that ended too.)
I take it JER moved his Black Pawn (pun intended) around the chessboard, and instead of having Whitney/Brook thrown at Eve/Julian, you've got Liz/Amelia in the same angle.
Poor reformed Julian being blamed for a past he cannot change? Sounds familiar?
Maybe I'm reading your words wrong.
Anyway, at least Ben Masters gets to act opposite Amelia Marshall, at least he gets to act opposite someone NEW, he's moved from Ivy actress, Rebecca actress, Tabitha actress, Eve actress, and now Liz actress, : What does Brook Kerr get? Divins groping her in his zeal to attempt to show the 'romance' of the relationship. She's back in her place.
Girl, Passions is crap and will stay that way because of the push to sell stereotypes to a young audience that doesn't know any better.
Mark my words: the MINUTE Chad finds out he and Whitney aren't siblings, JER will have him say, "I knew we weren't brother/sister, Whit. That's why I kept after you."
And Whit will say, "Thank you, Chad, for never giving up and always believing in us."
And what exactly did Fox do? Give up. Hence, end of that story.
However, isn't it so like JER to throw Simone at Whitney for every reveal, sibling, pregnancy, etc. but NOT show a single Whitney/Simone scene in which Simone ALONE tells Whitney that she's suddenly gay. Nah, apparently it's more important for OTHER characters to know.
This is JER's way of isolating his characters: Let 2006 be the year Brook says GOODBYE. Otherwise divins will be tied to her a$$ for LIFE.
E.
You don't know how sad your review made me.
Sometimes fans write out elaborate scenarios, that would take a lot of moving and shaking in the current canon to come true, but would be truly awesome.
You made Passions x100,000 better with that last section about family.
The worst part: Every single sentence was completely and utterly LOGICAL.
It would take little to no effort to make Paloma and Theresa interact. To introduce Chad to Fancy as her brother. To get Whitney and Simone to have quality time with their father.
And yet Passions continues with this inane drivel that they're peddling on screen now.
It's depressing.
wow. 3 rants in a row. and i love them all.
i agree with you all on most levels.
passions is crap, and it looks like its only going to continue to go downhill.
You guys speak the truth.....
Passions be full of shit.
The whole Kox thing is one big monkey poo.
Crapney thing is horse shit.
