Title: We never thought it would happen...

CocoTapioka - January 16, 2007 11:20 PM (GMT)
But hold onto your seats everyone, because Passions has all but been canned.

http://dlisted.com/2007/01/16/is-passions-getting-cancelled/ <- that was the first news report I read about it, but apparently, news is spreading.

Before anything crazy happens, I'm waiting for an "official" announcement, but with the Today show being extended an extra hour, pushing back DAYS, it's said that Passions will be ending very soon.

You can read more about it in the thread here.

UPDATE - The cast and crew were told this morning. Production is apparently going to end this Spring with the show’s finale airing in the Summer.

this is all just starting to hit me. i was waiting until some kind of written statement before i believed anything, and while this isn't official...i'm now officially sad. my heart dropped at the "The cast and crew were told this morning."

passions has been just about the only steady thing in my life for the past 7 years. like...what am i supposed to do with my life now from 2-3pm?

and like het said, it's had the strange ability to bring me some of my best friends.

ok i'm not going to think ab it anymore until tmw and hopefully some more word. or at least try not to.

It's been a rumor for so long that I never really expected the show to end. It's a bit crazy. As much as I talk about it, it's only because I truly did love this show. It was what I came home for, scheduled my classes around. Passions is indeed the reason I've met lifelong friends. It will be weird to have to talk about it in the past tense.

As much as I've complained about the show, it is kind of sad. I wanted it to at least make it to the 10 year mark. I do like many of the actors on the show and I hate that they may be losing their jobs. It's not the end for them, of course. But I do want to see them again. Even though I haven't been catching every episode like I use to, I remember that I use to plan my day around Passions.

I agree that I've came across good friends talking about Passions

"Passions" Is Canceled; "Today" Show Picks Up Extra Hour

January 17, 2007 6:42 a.m. EST

Maira Oliveira - All Headline News Reporter

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - NBC recently announced that daytime soap opera "Passions" has been canceled. The soap will go off the air after nearly eight years of being a fan favorite, especially among young women.

Variety reports that the announcement comes with other news that the "Today" show will be adding a fourth hour to its morning news program. Although the NBC contract for "Passions" ends in June, "Today" won't add its extra hour until the fall.

The daytime soap, which takes place in the fictitious town of Harmony, is probably best known for its supernatural storylines and unresolved love triangles.

Ratings release show that the program is ranked No. 4 among all serials among women of ages 18-34. With its success, it has been said that NBC is planning to negotiate with other networks to keep the show on the air, or even on the Internet.

Former "Days Of Our Lives" writer Jim Reily created "Passions" in 1999. Over the years he has been the executive producer, along with Lisa de Cazotte, and main writer of the show.

Think another network would pick it up? MyNetworkTV perhaps?

CocoTapioka - January 17, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
Lmao @ MyNetworkTV. Sorry. It's funny to me.

Hetairai - January 17, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
well, which station u think will pick them up?

DevotedFoxneyFan09 - January 17, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
From what I've heard NBC is really hoping for Passions to be picked up by another netowrk.

It is sad but not unexpected. I feel bad for the cast and crew. I bet anything JER doesn't finish any storylines.

this show was the only normal constant in my life, not to mention it lead me to all of you guys, like nuri and het said. longlasting friendships i never ever expected but so glad i have them.

omgomgomgomgomgomgomg no more brook everyday. no more delusion fox was getting recasted and foxney was going to be reunited....

omgomogmgomgomgomgomgomg why???? no more hope of gwen getting her own life, growing a backbone and kicking ethan to the kurb.

omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg no more any of it.

im really sad right now. that's not fair. i didnt want to join this sad train.

Alicia Keys - January 17, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
I could see SoapNet (well, maybe not) or MyNetwork picking it up. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to pass either. Plus, what does this mean for Day's future? They're the only daytime soap left on NBC. And frankly, if it wasn't an institution, I feel they'd be gone too. But they have much better ratings.

whitbrookfan4life - January 17, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
permanent sadface.

whitbrookfan4life - January 18, 2007 12:13 AM (GMT)
Passions does very well in the younger female demographics. As such, MyNetwork TV and The CW should be encouraged by PSNS fans to purchase the rights of the show from NBC. NBC may sell if it thinks it will profit.
