This has been ugly for many years. In the beginning, it was just bad…now, it’s ugly. It has never been this great romance. It had the stench of incest hovering over it from practically the beginning of their story. Then, they had actual incest for 2 years, but that didn’t stop them from WILLINGLY HAVING SEX WITH ONE ANOTHER WHEN THEY BELIEVED THEMSELVES TO BE SIBLINGS.
But then, a few words from a known liar like JT Cornell, presto, they were de-siblingized, and bam, in bed BEFORE we could see the PROOF from a corroborating DNA test.
And, it was supposed to be so beautiful. Puleeze. It was nasty, and will never wash off the stench of them doing The Nasty while they were siblings.
Yet now, we have another ‘problem’ that I suppose this couple is going to overcome – Chad is cheating. It has to be with a guy, because that’s the only thing that remotely makes any sense. Whitney being his SISTER didn’t make him stop wanting to set up house with her, so I’m to believe that he’s doing this cheating with another woman? Makes no sense.
But, he says, it’s just sex. Nothing more. Yet, I think Whitney will believe it’s something more, considering that she’s once again been fooled by this creep. I only hope she doesn’t wind up with a STD as a result of trusting this lying piece of garbage. I’ve gone back and forth with a friend about what a powerful story this could be, if Chad is indeed on the ‘ Down Low’, considering what’s going on with HIV/AIDS in the Black Community. While she believes it could be a good story, I still come down on the negative for several reasons:
1. Passions isn’t the kind of show that would actually WRITE, with intelligence, sensitivity and consistency, a storyline that could entertain as well as inform. If this was Claire Labine’s GH, or Agnes Nixon’s AMC, or Douglas Marland’s ATWT, or William Bell’s Young and the Restless, ok. But, this is Passions – a show that has made light of suicide, abortion, incest, homosexuality and rape. What has this show done in the past to make me believe that they’d actually tackle this story with depth?
Nothing.
2. Charles Divins – he’s still awful, and to think that he could handle the complexity of this story is a joke. Plain and simple. If Donn Swaby were in the role…well, I don’t think Chad would be the joke he became, but I definitely think Donn could convince me of the complexness of what must be going down in Chad’s mind and heart. But, Divins? Nope.
Either way, this storyline reeks, and I just want Whitney to find out just how completely she’s been made a fool of by Chad, and then get herself to a doctor so that she can be tested for disease.
All in all, it was a bad year for Passions. I had hoped getting axed from DOOL would force JER to come back and commit to Passions, but I don’t see it. I don’t see the heart of the show back in place. I don’t see a cohesive, fully integrated Passions. I remember a time when one story bled into another, and everyone on the show had a purpose; some characters had more purpose than others, but they all mattered. Not so anymore. I miss the Passions that I couldn’t wait to see when I got home. I miss being Passion-ate about Passions. I miss the fun entertainment that used to be Passions. We got little of that fun in 2006. One can only hope that some of the mistakes will be corrected and that 2007 will be better.
