Leading website Hotels.com has appointed ex-Financial Times (FT) man Nigel Pocklington to the position of managing director.

As well as working as director of online publishing at the FT, Mr Pocklington brings with him the experience of working as chief executive for social networking and e-mentoring network Horsesmouth.co.uk.

David Roche, whose shoes the new director will hope to fill, was reported by TravelMole as saying: "Nigel will bring substantial expertise in business development and strategic planning, as well as expertise in the day-to-day running of a high-growth online business.

"He takes the reins at an exciting time for Hotels.com as we look to combine continued growth with an increase in our share of the online accommodation market."

Holding a generic domain name like Hotels.com has brought the holiday bookings site numerous customers who have a plethora of vacation-related sites to choose from, but few with so unmistakably product-specific an address.

Gaining a big reputation in the e-retail domain allows a site to attract top management personnel like Mr Pocklington, under whose guidance Hotels.com will hope to expand yet further
