Title: Dot (2002)

Here's a fun, unknown movie that I caught the other night on Showtime. "Dot" is a mockumentary about a fictional dot-com startup company named "Zectek.com". 3 guys quit their regular jobs and begin the company, simply because they want to cash-in on the Internet hype of the late 90's. Two of the guys met while taking frequent smoke breaks at a another company. They made a pact: 'If there's an easier job out there, contact me'. The whole purpose of their business is to raise money and become millionaires when/if Zectek.com has an IPO. With no real product, they open an office and become the "experience for an e-tomorrow!". Similar to www.huhcorp.com

The entire cast are virtual unknowns. The set rarely strays from the small condominium office of Zectek. Those limitations don't hurt the movie at all. Part "Spinal Tap" and part "the Office", the movie is surprisingly realistic and downright hilarious if you worked in the dot-com era. For instance: when Zectek hires a CFO, they present him with an "Executive Saucer Shooter".. a light-up toy disc gun. That one hit WAY too close to home! I'm surprised the Zectek office didn't have a foosball table, nerf hoop or a fire pole.

The movie is set from August 1999 to April 2000. Each portion of the documentary includes the date, time and amount the company's currently worth. Segments with real news clippings of the late 90's fortunes of Netscape, Yahoo, Boo.com and other start-ups are added to provide a little background info.

This is a very obscure movie, but you can check it out on IMDB : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371647/
I give it a half numb butt (that's a GOOD rating... I rate movies on "beers" and "numb butts". 6 beers is wotst. Full numb butt is best. Stole this from an old radio critic about 10 years ago). Currently on Showtime's movie menu, but it'll also pop-up on the Movie Channel.
