Title: Nightwing #117 (2006)

Welp, end of a "controversial" era for Nightwing. This was the last issue for the Writer and she's been continually slammed for her Master Dick adoration. Every female character that Nightwing has run across recently has instantly become enamored with the guy. The latest was a 15 year old mobster's daughter....in probably the weakest romance angle since Martian Manhunter and Scorch (was that her name...the devil chic from JLA, about 5 years ago?).

While the last 30-40 issues have been the repititive teenage girl "ooo...isn't Master Dick a dreamboat", it's somewhat comparable to the first 30-40 issues of the title. In those, writer Chuck Dixon also kept going back to his own repititive bag of trick. Every issues featured Dudley Soames, Blockbuster or Tad/Nite-wing. I could understand Blockbuster, since he was the recurring crime boss, but Soames and Nite-wing were basically one-time gimmicks and their recurring use quickly wore stale.

Anyways, things haven't gone well for Nightwing lately, in his comics, his characterization, and even in his sales. This issue was a forced tie-up yarn that essentially killed off the Writer's plot threads and sets Nightwing up with a clean slate. Well, "clean" with one gigantic, notable exception--- in the last page he proposes to Barbara Gordon/Orcale/Used To Be Batgirl. He does it with one of the most over-the-top lines since Dale Arden said "Flash, Flash..I love you!! But we only have 14 hours to save the Earth!!" Master Dick says something like: "Babs, in a few hours I'm leaving to go save the universe...but I want you to be there when I come back".

Heh, that's funny.
