JLA Classified has been taken over with a follow-up to a follow-up. This follow-up follows-up last year's "Formerly Known as the Justice League" mini-series, which was in itself a follow-up to the 1986-1992 Justice League series. Ya' follow?

When J.M DeMatteis, Keith Giffen and Kevin Macguire relaunched Justice League in 1986, it was heavy on the comedy, but also had an obligation to maintain "serious" JLA-type stories. Giant robots, interdimensional villains, end-of-the-world menaces, and similar stuff. 19 years later, the serious obligation has been thrown out the window and they can finally go full-bore comedy with "I Can't Believe it's not the Justice League", or as they're known in the comics, the Super-Buddies.

The story began in JLA Classified #4, and so far we've seen the return of Guy Gardner, Mary Marvel getting goosed, L-Ron's new nickname ("Call me Ronnie"), the name of Booster's wife ("Gladys"), and even a trip to HELL. Former supevillain Blackguard has parterned with Gardner, opening a bar next door to the Super-Buddies storefront. Blackguard's name has also been revealed- Richard Hertz...but he prefers you call him Dick.

It's a fun story...but there's that pesky DC continuity problem again. The story is now set with the disclaimer "a long time ago...". A result of those "far-reaching effects" of that Identity Crisis crap nugget. See, Sue Dibny and ElLongated Man are a BIG part of "I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League". Now, with "DC Countdown to Infinite Crisis" set to muck up Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, roughly 1/2 of the Super-Buddies have been sacrificed to another Outside Writer's WetDream. Thing is, these characters are worthless as "heroes", but perfect for the Super-Buddies. Next time you want some "earthshaking effects that will redefine the DCU", knock off Nightshade, the Atom (again), Aquaman (again) or Metamorpho (again).
