Title: Thoughts on Shattered
Gerry's Protector - March 4, 2008 04:10 PM (GMT)
What did you guys think of this movie?

When it first aired on TNT last summer, I was SO excited. It had been a few months since 300 came out and I was itching to see Gerry in something new again, even if it wasn't on the big screen. I was very disappointed that it wasn't distributed nationally, especially after all the promotional work done for it (as well as that huge petition that went around, remember?), but I guess it was all for the better now. Anyway, back to my thoughts, lol. I thought the movie was so good and so compelling that I had to watch the encore showing. Gerry hasn't really been involved in many of these--how do i say it?--realistic, modern movies, so it was nice. I wish I could've reached thru the TV and hugged him a few times...and I REALLY wanted to climb thru and jump him in the beginning--when he had the glasses on! Woo!
Tho I have to say...it was strange having him turn out to be the semi-bad guy in the end. I expected it, but it was still not the norm, lol.
I got the DVD when it came out on Christmas, of course.

I thought it was a VERY good film, as did my family---who are rather reluctant Gerry fans as I MAKE them watch his films! *LOL*
I of course did buy the DVD as well.
The only bad thing for me was having him turn out to be the rat fink in the end instead of the hero---but knowing Gerry he probably enjoyed that--giving us all a turn around!
I know some people thought it was not "good" enough for the big screen--but I know I've seen lots WORSE on the big screen, and I think it could have held it's own. If the star had been Harrison Ford there would have been no question they studio's would have promoted it! Once again our poor Gerry did not get his due!
Certainly he acted his heart out in it, and it deserved more than a TV showing and soon forgot!

*agree*
But you know what? Everything happens for a reason, and I'm sure this was no exception.

I use to work for a marketing company that tested products before it hit the market and on weekends we use to preview movies-after I saw on TV I understood why it didn't make it to the big screen. It is sort of complicated to explain, but a series of 25 questions are asked ranging from the interest of the movie to explain what the movie is about then it is ranked from 1 to 10 and about 50 questions are asked and people need to rank them. The studio then takes these interviews and begins to compare data across the board, etc. I think that's why they used Miami (correct city if i'm wrong) as the testing ground. I've now seen it on DVD and still admit that it wouldn't have made it to the big screen, but that's my marketing experience at work-it is complicated to explain.
I did enjoy it and I enjoy anything he makes.

Well OKAY--I mean you should know!
But how do you explain some of the DREK that does end up onscreen that makes this movie look brilliant! What was that crazie thing Mischa saw lately that the reviewer said everyone should get up and demand their money back? And The Blaire Witch Project----awful!!!!! THAT THING WASN'T EVEN WORTH ENOUGH FOR TV! There are LOTS more but I can't think of them right now cause they were so awful I've forgotten them! :um:

I understand where you are coming from in regards to movies that make it to the screen that shouldn’t. I don’t know how Shattered was marketed in Miami, but from the past experience I’ve had with testers I think I know what their answers would be based on a 30 to 45 second clip. Which isn’t much to base anything on. Some movies are never meant to be slated for screen release and I’m not saying Shattered is one of them. When I put the marketing experience to work the film is missing a spark-I don’t know how to describe it. When I step back from the marketing experience the film as a whole is pretty solid and I enjoyed the twists and turns of it all. The ending did make me raise some eyebrows. It is a pity that isn’t get the release it should have even it meant release in half of the markets.
That being said if the movie was being screen tested with clips followed by a q/a-then I feel bad for the studios because some of the data coming back to them is 80% false. When I worked with the firm we would have to screen several clips of the same film and get 400 participants from a certain age group, income, etc and that is difficult to do over a period of 2 days. On good days we were lucky to see 150 and the rest would be made up. I’m not saying every firm does this but it does happen more often than not.

WE JUST REWATCHED THE DVD OF THIS LAST NIGHT---I KNOW ALMOST NO ONE AGREES WITH ME, AND I DIDN'T LIKE SEEING HIM END UP THE BAD GUY EITHER---BUT I STILL THINK THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD MOVIE--I STILL KNOW I'VE SEEN LOTS WORSE ON THE BIG SCREEN---AND I STILL THINK GERRY DID A FABULOUS JOB ON IT!
I DEFFINATELY THINK GERRY GETS A BAD BREAK ON THESE FILMS---IF HARRISON FORD HAD MADE IT IT'D BEEN IN EVERY THEATER.
JUST LIKE BEOWULF---I THOUGHT HE DID A GREAT JOB ON THAT TOO--AND IT GOT IGNORED AND THEN SOMEONE ELSE MADE A FILM OF IT! NOT FAIR! OH WELL I DON'T THINK THE SECOND FILM WAS A MAJOR HIT ANYWAY!
BUT I AM GETTING AWAY FROM THE SUBJECT OF SHATTERED---I STILL SAY IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE! AND I SEE THE FEMALE STAR IS IN LOTS OF NEW THINGS LATELY SO IT DIDN'T HURT HER CAREER EITHER! *luvgb*

The lady in shattered, Maria Bello, she's the woman from the movie, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" That movie is really good. It's full of action and suspense.
