Title: Sequel to POTO???

GypsyDy - January 29, 2008 08:28 AM (GMT)
Has anyone heard anything about a sequel to the POTO???
Someone told me they heard something about it on the news---then they said they were talking about how many years it was on Broadway so manybe it was to be a new play????
This lady told me thi is a bit spacey so......... :um: I've no real clue!
Just thought I'd put this up in case anyone heard something!
Personally I'm thinking of sueing if someone stole my story!!!!!!!!! *allshookup*

it's definitely NOT your story, lol.

i've heard this, but i'm rather disappointed with the direction they've decided to take with the sequel...a lot of phantom fans are, actually. i don't know about a movie version, but ALW is definitely working on a broadway sequel, as of last year sometime. it's going to be based off of "the phantom of manhatten" by frederick forsythe. i really didn't like the book. it was SO different than the original--the phantom escapes to new york, becomes a money hungry tycoon by using the stock market who eventually gets redeemed. all the while, he's still obsessed with christine--whom, if i remember correctly, gets murdered. so if you're anti-christine like me, you'd be happy about that lol. it's just bad. there was NO emotion and lacks absolutely everything we've come to know and love about the original rendition.

so yea...i'm not thrilled with the choice ALW made..but, knowing me, i'll probably go to see it anyway, hahaha....

wow!! This is interesting! I know with a million fans of the film version of Phantom of the Opera, a lot of them (like us) won't approve of the sequel. Do you think they will have Gerard Butler again? I asked that question before, I really hope, hope, hope. It'll be a miracle though. All of us are thinking of a romantic phantom who deserves the love that he didn't get from Christine and public.

Ever since ALW's film version of POTO came out, there's been a lot of sequel I heard of and I only bought one. Let's just wait. Mischa keep us updated with this, ok?

You're the best!

ps-i love yah all!

believe me--you guys are the first to know ANYTHING i hear reguarding Gerry and his projects. however, something tells me that he wouldn't do a sequel. just like 300, once was enough for him. i don't know if i'm right--and i sure as hell don't want to talk FOR him--but i doubt he'd take on another phantom role. emotionally, i don't think he could do it again. he's already said how much it affected him the first time around.

besides, like i said before, ALW's only working on a broadway show at this point. and i don't even know how far he's gotten with THAT either. and i guess depending on how well that sells to the broadway audiences would determine whether or not they make a movie sequel as well.

it wouldn't be right seeing anyone else as the phantom on film, but i'm hoping that if they DO the movie, it's either COMPLETELY different than the book, or he just doesn't do it at all.

ALWebber didn't exactly stay true to the Gaston Leroux book either--just took the parts he liked and changed what he didn't. More like it INSPIRED him---so probably should give him a break until it's done!
Anyway the original was on Broadway for 30 years before before they made a movie of it! *LOL*
As for Christine---the first movie established she died when she was old so they can't really change that can they?

As for Gerry---he'd do it if the script was REALLY GOOD and he thought it really protrayed the Phantom in Character etc---otherwise he'd turn it down. He was REALLY into the Phantom.
But you know it got panned a LOT and his singing got trashed---and I think a movie is probably not something anyone wants to do!
I think it's just a Broadway thing!

BUT ANYONE WHO HASN'T READ MY NOVEL CAN RUN DOWN TO TH POPPETS DISCUSSIONS AND FIND IT----I'M SURE YOU'D LIKE IT MUCH MORE THAN THAT STOCK TYCOON CRAPOLA!!! *iSOrock*

*agree* *erik* When you read it, you're gonna------ *LOVE*

i'm not so sure, but i guess it's always possible. i've never seen gerry talk about anything so passionately as he did with the phantom. so yea, maybe you're right. but it would have to be a damn good script!

HEY--MAYBE THERE'S OUR QUESTION FOR THE CONFERENCE! lol.

GypsyDy - January 30, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
Actually I WAS going to suggest that----but I though you'd all thing "Oh There goes Gypsy again with her Phantom obsession!!!!!!"!!!! *LOL*

Actually I was basing my thoughts about Gerard and the Phantom sequel to comments made by another male star I like Bill Pullman who played the President in INDEPENDENCE DAY---there was talk of a sequel and he said he wouldn't do it just to be making a sequel. That it would have to be a GOOD script, and one that stood on it's own independent of the first movie, otherwise he was not interested. As you know a second one never was made---so I'm thinking Gerry would probably feel about the same way about it!
And he WAS reaally into the Phantom, and I've heard some "on the set" stories about him being bullheaded about portraying the Phantom HIS way and not neccessary the way of least resistence! So if that's true---well he'd be defensive of the Character into the NEXT projected sequel I'm sure!

not to mention, it just wouldn't be the same without our Gerry! *luvgb*

I've heard of this....isn't it supposed to be something like The Phantom of Manhatten or something weird like that? Sounds like a pretty bad idea to me...I mean with the success of POTO, a sequal can do nothing but flop...sad to say. *shrug* I'd probably go and see it though, for kicks. *smooch* <--on a random note, I love this smilie!

*smooch* that was my avatar for a looooong time, lol.

I haven't heard anything about this, though I have heard for a few years now that ALW wants to make a continuation to the Phantom broadway. Whether or not that would be the basis of a 2nd movie will remain to be seen.
