Title: Other Phantoms
Description: Actors who played behind the Mask

GypsyDy - January 7, 2007 08:31 AM (GMT)
Well, at long last I finely got around to watching the Claude Raines PHANTOM VHS tape someone gave me.
All I can think of to say as a review is FUNKY!!!!
I mean they changed the basic story so much it was almost hard to recognize.
Raoul was a policeman, and him and the baratone from the Opera both loved Christine and acted like Frick and Frack.
The Phantom, well that was pretty pitiful!
When he was on top of the chandalier with a HACK SAW---well I almost fell off the sofa laughing! It just was so ridiculous! *LOL* I mean I had tears running down my face!
It's a good thing Gerry never saw this movie---cause if he did he'd have run to the ends of the earth rather than play it!!!
Anyway we ALL know who the best Phantom is! *mask*

HA! HA! HA! Where did you get that movie?? Can't believe there's such thing! How does the phantom look like? How about Christine and Raoul? It must be ridiculous!

Probably as stupid and funny like watching the french version of Phantom. Imagine Gerard singing in french and it's not even his voice? The guy singing sounds terrible! *lmao*

Josette---one of our missing in action members, sent it to me with a bunch of other stuff. Think she got it at a yardsale or something.
Anyway it was made in the 1930's. Christine was WAY to old (it was Jenette McDolald) but she had a good voice. Raoul had this dumb moustache--thin thing, looked like a dork!
As for the Phantom he was very uninspired and oldish looking. He wore a FULL mask, not the half one. He got deforemed from some acid that got thrown in his face. The big thing was besides looking cowsick at Christine, he had NOOOOO passion. Even when he's on top of the chandalier with this goofie hacksaw sawing away, he doesn't look angry or mad or anything, has a look on his face like he's brushing his teeth!

There were MANY POTO movies made through the years starting with the SILENT film in the 20's starring Lon Chaney. In one version he as in a fire or something. I believe there was this really horrible one made for TV around the 80's-90's.
Anyway WE KNOW WHO THE REAL PHANTOM IS!!!

I went to blockbuster a few months ago and rented another Phantom of the Opera. The salesclerk already warned me that it's not what I think, it's a horror movie, not even musical. I told him I can handle it.

He's got this curious and confused facial expression. So I went home and watch it and sure enough, it was true horror and bloody murderer. They even showed how he stitches his face and blood was all over him (terrible!!).

No singing, the phantom was totally an ugly murderer. The Christine in the movie was ok, and so is Raoul. That's the first 10 minutes of the movie, then I turned it off and returned it with "no second thought, I've decided" before Tabitha sees the title that it's POTO and play it.

It was real crap!!

I turned on the true Phantom of the Opera (of course you know who) and was *hp* .. *gimme* ONLY!!

GypsyDy - January 8, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the minute I finshed that movie I had a mad desire to put on the REAL Phantom---haven't had time to run it yet, but you know I listened to the soundtrack while doing my valentines today!

monique - January 8, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
OOOHHH!! I think I'm gonna do the same. That's very inspiring! *hm* *agree*

GypsyDy - January 8, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
Okay, dina, I'm gonna have to cut out of here soon! Got to take a shower and get some dinner, and TV starts in an hour!
Can't remember where the thread was where you said you fell down, hope you foot is better today---and don't fall down again! *LOL*

The Claude Rains version that Gypsy is talking about starred Claude Rains as the Phantom, Susanna Foster as Christine, Nelson Eddy as the Baritone and Edgar Barrier as Raoul.

Yeah, I realized it wasn't Jeanette McDonald after I left the forum---but you know all those little Barbie ladies look the same to me! evilaugh
Serously, sorry Gerrysgal, I know you liked this movie---but I just can't see why except for the music!
Everytime I think of him on the chandalier with the hacksaw I want to start screaming with laughter and run down the street! *kilt*

Mystic Sin - January 9, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
LOL dont run down the street LMAO you'll twist your ankle... YOu all make me crack up the way you talk about all the POTO's

GYPSY had to drag me kicking an screaming to seee the REAL phantom *sighs and gets lost in Gerry thoughts* LOL however mainly because my experience with seeing anything was horrible LMAO and not my cup of tea... Well as long as Gerry is the Phantom I am completely love sick.....................................
*hp* *gimme* *mask*

Gerrysgal - January 10, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
It was most deffinately the music and I am an avid fan of all classic movies. Plus that was the first Phantom movie I was given when I first started into the broadway. I guess it's all sentimental reasons for me.

Gerrysgal---well I know what you mean about nostalgia!
I mean me and Mystic and my other 2 nieces have this warm fuzzy thing about watching the worlds stupidist movie ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES! We spent the night all 4 of us on a man (actually girl) eating fold out sofa----if to many get on one end of those things it's woopsiedazie it folds up and the girls go down the slot screaming legs kicking in the air!----watching that nuttie film! Then we kept each other awake all night SCREAMING stuff like ATTACK OF THE KILLER ASPARAGUS and ATTACK OF THE KILLER ARTICHOKE but when I yelled out ATTACK OF THE KILLER MIRACLE WHIP we all started screaming and running around the room and this was like 3 AM and "Grandma" came out of her room and yelled what the hell was WRONG with us anyway! Oh yeah, that was the GOOD times!!! So yeah I KNOW what you mean!

As for Mystic I said I'd pay her ticket to see Gerard in POTO and she was like "My mother watched every one of those old Phantom films and they were soooooo stupid" And I was like "NO this one is going ot be different--it's music---you like music!" So we're watching it and she was like hunched down in her seat and I kept thinking "Oh god she hates it, I shoulda come alone!" but instead we was like *faint*
Now if your not 21 don't read this next part! After the movie I said I had to go to the bathroom and whispered "My panties are wet" and Mystic says "yeah me too!" (Bet we weren't the ONLY ones!!!) *lmao*
