Title: Street Fighter II Discussion
Description: All varieties of the game welcome

I'm sure I don't have to go into a long story here. I'm sure everyone has been familiar with Street Fighter II at some point in their life (with too many different versions to count on multiple systems) in arcades or at home consoles. As probably my favorite Arcade game, I felt this would be a good topic. (I like Mortal Kombat, but it's a little too... eh)

I'd like to use this topic to discuss random things about the game. Favorite characters, fight scenes, moves, toughest/best battles, etc. etc.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I always preffered playing as Ryu and Guile in the regular edition, mainly because they looked the coolest, had some of the better attacks, and were just plain fun. To pick one, I gotta go with Ryu (who turned 40 years old last year, according to the bio of him in the Genesis Instruction Manual).

Ryu's moves...

Fireball
- Probably better known as the Hadoken for fans of the SFII: V Anime Series, and for the fact Ryu screams it out every time he uses it.
Dragon Punch - A Jumping Uppercut, which is performed as Ryu yells out "Shoryuken".
Hurricane Kick - A series of mid-air spinning kicks. Screams out Tatsu-maki-sen-pu-kyaku.

Favorite Fight Scenes: I've always loved Guiles (changed in the Turbo Revival of GBA), Blankas, and Dhalsims (I'm a mark for the elephants). For the least favorite, E. Hondas being in what looks like a Japanese Restaurant was kinda gay.

Favorite Moves: Ryu's/Ken's Hadoken, Guile's Sonic Boom and Flash Kick, Chun Li's Whirlwind kick, Zangief's Spinning Piledriver, and Dhalsim's Yoga Fire (I can't help but scream this out).

Toughest Battle(s): I'm sure this will be more of a more recent one. I was playing this while waiting in a Hospital waiting room, and was playing as Ryu, and fought against Ken. Thank God the time limit was off, because this fight was awesome. Took at least 3 minutes thanks to blocking, counters, and lots of defensive strategy.

Also, I have to proclaim my love for the "Smashing Up Car" Challenge. I think I did it the quickest in 12 seconds with E. Honda's 100 Hand Sissy-Slap Fight.

I'm a little upset, overall, with the Bosses from the series (Balrog, Vega, Sagat, M. Bison). While tough to beat, when playing them, they aren't that grand. Balrog does just a shitload of punches, Vega dances around like a queer, Sagat is basically a bigger version of Ryu, and Bison is just a combination of the people I hate. I also don't really care for the 4 people added in later on, which includes Cammy, T-Hawk, Fei Long, and Dee-Jay. Available for playing in Turbo Revival as well is Akuma, who is a tough version of Ken/Ryu. I noticed he does several cameo background appearences in the SFII: V series, which was the only other time I've seen him.

I always used Ryu. Though the edition that introduced the Indian guy and Cammy was the last one I played more than in passing. I was pretty unbeatable at the game. My friends and I had a championship and I never lost it over a period of 3 years. And yes I did defend it on a fairly regular basis. I'd say successful defenses were easily over 150.

I tried some of the new games once the PSX versions started to fit but I didn't like the newer features to the games. Less was definately more with these games.

I disagree about Balrog though. He couldn't do much but if your timing was good he was a nice change of pace guy.

My timing sucked with his power moves... plus against guys like Vega, I got my ass ha-whooped all the time.

I started with Blanka, and moved gradually to Guile and Ryu. I used to play it while my mom was grocery shopping. It's by far my favorite fighting game, though I agree that the later versions kind of ruined it's magic.

I did like the four new characters, but being able to play the bosses kind of ruined the magic of having bosses in the first place.

Blanka is one of the cheapest fights on hard mode. All he does he electro-shock you and do his spinning ball technique, both bitches when you fight far or close. Plus his striking is pretty horrible to control, so I've never been too much of a fan of his.

Does anyone know where to find the SF II font? I'd love to be able to make a banner for my board using it.
