Title: KING OF THE RING!!!
Description: One Night Only!

QUOTE (WWE.com)

In a single evening, a man will become a legend as the King of the Ring tournament returns for one night only. On a special three-hour Raw event next Monday night presented by USA Network, Superstars from Raw, SmackDown and ECW will battle for the honor to be crowned King of all WWE and royally solidify their spot in sports-entertainment history.

Past ring warriors to win the prestigious King of the Ring tournament have gone on to become some of the biggest names in sports-entertainment. Triple H and Edge were each crowned the King and subsequently became two of the most prominent champions to ever step into the ring.

So who will take the throne this year as WWE’s newest monarch? Will the Green Bay loudmouth back up his harsh words and be hailed as King Kennedy? Will Finlay brawl his way to becoming a Celtic King? Will CM Punk mount the throne with briefcase in hand? It’s anybody’s guess, but one thing is for certain: Superstars who enter this tournament will give everything they have to be honored with the glory and prestige of being crowned as King of the Ring.

Tune in next Monday at a special time – 8/7 CT – to watch royalty in the making.

Who's for a second reign for Mabel?

Yeah, me either....

SamoaRowe - April 18, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
Kennedy is going to be in the tournament? He's barely done anything since Wrestlemania, I was beginning to think he was quietly suspended.

dynamite kido - April 22, 2008 08:11 PM (GMT)
Well damn did last night's tournament fucking suck ass.

Regal winning? Oh yeah, I guess they are going to push him for no apparent reason over the next month or so.

SamoaRowe - April 22, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
Regal winning was perhaps the most random moment of the year. I figured that he's just getting more air time since Kennedy is off doing whatever. I'll be surprised if this sudden Regal push really amounts to anything.

I didn't think the entire tournament was bad though. We got some good work from Jericho, Punk, and Finlay in the process.

I was trying to figure out the Regal push as well. His first foray into the ring in ages was against Orton last week.

I did a search earlier trying to figure out why he hadn't been in the ring and if what I read was correct he has been diagnosed with some sort of heart problem. Extremely long or difficult matches may be out which is why he being crowned King of the Ring didn't make any sense to me.

I did enjoy several of the matches that lead up to the final match, however.

Honestly I was pretty underwhelmed by Punk/Jericho and it was probably the best match of the tourney.

Everything else was short, pointless, or stupid (ex. Regal winning against Punk in the finals, trying to make it all dramatic like after the tourney was shitty)

SamoaRowe - April 23, 2008 07:24 PM (GMT)
I thought there were quite a few good "television" matches in the tournament. Jericho/MVP, Punk/Hardy, Punk/Jericho, Finlay/Regal, Punk/Regal spring to mind. It doesn't bother me that they were short, they served their purpose and fit into the flow of the television show.

Jericho and MVP did a good job for their time slot as did Punk and Jericho. Did anyone else get the feeling that the Punk/Regal match wasn't as smooth as it should have been? A couple of times it appeared to me that the shots Regal was dishing out were clumsy in exection. I was unhappy with the Finlay/Khali match leading up to the Finlay/Regal match...I know Finlay and Regal could have put one one helluva match if it had been allowed without the "injury" to Finlay's leg.

SamoaRowe - April 23, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
There were a lot of clean finishes and Regal really heeled it up. He got a free pass thanks to the Hornswoggle match, and had the advantage against an injured Finlay and a weakened CM Punk. There was a lot to like. However, whether or not this is remembered as a worthwhile KOTR will depend on how Regal is booked for the next several months. If he just settles back into his GM role (especially after Kennedy returns) then this is obviously a waste. If this leads to a strong Regal push, and he works a more uppercard/main event program, using his GM pull as a way to further give himself advantages, then it could be awesome.

dynamite kido - April 23, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
Nothing about Regal at this point is awesome. He's completely over the hill and has had serious health issues. He shouldn't even be wrestling at this point or more importantly, recieving a push.

KSSassy - April 23, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
If they weren't going to push Regal to begin with or begin an immediate feud because of his win, then it was a waste of time. If it was a big deal for Kennedy to be back at WWE before KOR, then they should have waited the extra week.

You might be right, but watching the Regal of old these past two weeks has made my inner mark very happy. The smark side of me that judges the shows based on how good they are for business (or the grand scheme of things) sat this one out.

I don't think its bad for business its a way to get the ball rolling. You can go Finlay/Regal which would all sorts of goodness as they mesh so well.

You can Punk/Regal British pompous guy vs straight edge american babyface.

It depends on the payoff. Now if this was a throwaway show, meh... I would be mad, but Im thinking this is going somewhere for the midcard.

Lets face it King gimmicks are midcard acts at best. Booker was the exceptin and that was based off of injuries, and the piss poor hanndling of Rey's title reign.

The tourney wasn't really the most gheyest moment of the night. IMO, in the 8-man tag match, it should've been Edge pinning HHH. But nooooooooo, the ECW World Champion has to be the one doing the job.

Yep, more of HHHitler's ego running amok.

Of course there's no rule that whoever wins the KOTR has to start acting like a king. I was surprised when that act stuck with Booker. But yes, I hope that this does get a ball rolling, and I would be delighted to see a nice Regal push throughout the summer.

No, but Regal could pull it off legit where Booker did comedy and just got over with sheer force of will.

:P How true, how true. I guess we'll get a better idea on the next Raw.
