Title: The End of All Things to Come!
Description: Well, for MY website
Erick Von Erich - April 9, 2008 06:01 AM (GMT)
For all three of you who've followed my adventures over on my ORIGINAL site (the "good place to go-cart when you are four foot"), you might have noticed that I've been skimping on the new content since late last year. It's been a long time (5 years) coming, but I'm finally close to launching an All-New, All-Different site.
So why the hell should you care? That'd be because I'm asking for YOUR opinion on what type of stuff you'd like to read. Ever since we launched DWS, all of my 'rasslin' reviews have been going there. But for the other stuff I'm into-- or more precisely, the other stuff I like to type about the Internets--- what interests you?
Talking about sports rants, comic book reviews, tv/movie reviews, concert reviews, etc. Have you seen sites that do it well? Seen site's that do it poorly? (and a cock-punch to you if you cite MINE). Keep in mind that it's a one man operation, but for presentation and organization purposes I'm inclined to steal...err, BORROW a model that works.
Toughest thing for me to organize is "comics". I don't like blog sites that list whatever some bozo's reading that week. Makes it tough for a newbie to come in and see what's on tap. Then when everything's sorted by actual posting date...I have no idea how to find out that this clown recently read an old 1970's Captain America issue. So I'm thinking of splitting comics under sub-categories of "Silver, Bronze and Modern Ages". I'd list Golden, too... but I rarely read anything from that era. With special categories for the other crap I do, like "Hypertime Arena", "superhero cartooons" and "GI Joe".
Biggest change in my new site is that it'll FINALLY have new, original (crappy) comics from me. I'm doing this strictly for entertainment purposes (and ad click throughs), though. No delusions of being "discovered".

I'm a big fan of Ain't It Cool New's comic reviews

You're going to make me visit that site, aren't you?
Their pop-ups and writing tone annoy me, so please tell the good stuff and save my day.

One page of their comic reviewsIf there are pop ups, I've never noticed. I just like the fact that they review a range of stuff, and that they do so without sounding boring. I've learned about some interesting comics I would buy if I had money through them, and that's about it

I see what you're saying about the actual review. But it's basically a "what we're reading THIS WEEK" thread.
After a week or two, that page becomes obsolete and doesn't attract new readers. Sure, a year from now, someone will want to read about "Secret Invasion #1"...but it'll be buried under an "archive list" that lists comics by dates. That's something that infuriates me about comic sites: to read and find reviews I have to know the release date of a book.
That's not a model that works for what I'll be doing. I will not be doing a "new release" or a continuous pull list of any kind. Just a standalone random review of a crappy old comic. Which is why I think I'll organize them by Silver, Bronze and Modern ages.

I see...
I think the dividing by age is a good idea.

Second that.

Well...here's what I'm going with, so far:
The All-New All-Different Option38.comI just have the main page layout completed and got the sports syndication feeds working. That's about it. It has some similarities to Da' Site, but that's probably intentional.
First time I've gone with an all CSS/DIV layout, too. Still rough around the edges, code-wise.

CSS/DIV layouts are a pain in the arse to make, but they make updating sites so much easier
