Title: AAA Update
Description: Judas Mesias Back as El Mesias
KSSassy - March 11, 2008 11:42 AM (GMT)
El Mesias teamed with Zorro last Friday in a match.
He is scheduled to defend his AAA Heavyweight Championship against Cibernetico on March 16.
Cibernetico must now be off the disabled list -- he was in the match again El Mesias Friday.
I'm not certain how this will play out. I thought Mesias would lose the title earlier since he was working with TNA, but Cibernetico got hurt and Mesias didn't defend the title against anyone else. I'm betting Cibernetico walks away with the title on the 16th.
SamoaRowe - March 11, 2008 05:01 PM (GMT)
Whoa, I have to say, I'm impressed by your wide range of wrestling viewing. I heard that Mesias walked away from TNA because they weren't going to match the amount he'd make with AAA. Something about that seems weird to me.
KSSassy - March 11, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
I tried to warn ya'll I was "old" ;)
If you have never seen a AAA match, well, let's just say they make TNA look like a bunch of sissies. Even the women there are tough -- and not exceptionally large.
Mesias appears to be a big risk taker in most of his AAA matches. He wasn't doing anything in TNA.
He can also work five nights a week in Mexico versus his once or twice a month in TNA. I am not certain but I did hear that he didn't speak English well and that might have kept him from doing a lot in the Indy circuit here.
SamoaRowe - March 11, 2008 05:12 PM (GMT)
I've seen AAA at friend's houses when they fall asleep and I'm sleeping on the couch and still awake at 3 am. The last time I tuned in, I think it was Cibernetico who got thrown through a burning table and his back was sickenly charred up from it.

Something always messes up when someone is supposed to go through a table.
KSSassy - March 12, 2008 12:22 AM (GMT)
I can't tell if the tables used in AAA are heavier than the ones used in the states. I can't imagine they are knowing how flimsy the ladders in and out of the ring are in those matches.
I did see Johnny Devine slide off a table in TNA. It really was kind of funny -- at least he didn't seem to get hurt.

Yeah, he can make like $100,000 a year in AAA working five nights a week.
With all the bullshit and hype, I'm surprised TNA can't (or won't) match that.
But he's not that good anyway. So, no big deal, right?

The last thing I saw Cibernetico in was the 1997 Royal Rumble match.

Okay, that is IT! You have picked on my Briscoes and now you're going after El Mesias?
Poor guy has even put on weight since he's been in TNA. Not to say that anyone wrestling out of Mexico is pumped -- except maybe Cibernetico, but he was and/or is a bodybuilder. But Mesias has put on a few pounds.
What he was doing in Mexico beats the heck out of what he was doing in TNA. Did you see the segment when he first showed up and had the feud with Sting? He picked up some boxes, empty ones no less, and the way he grabbed them up was like he didn't realize they would be so light. Then he was so careful about the way he was hitting Sting...it was obvious he wasn't sure how far he could go. He's never done that when I've seen him anywhere else.

I'm only judging him based on his less-than-stellar TNA run. I'd have to see some AAA work to tell otherwise.
But, and I can say this for every "monster heel" for now and forever, purple is not an intimidating color. Bret Hart pulled of pink, because he wasn't a "monster", but Mesias is absolutely not the guy to pull of purple.
Oh, and I never said anything about his weight.

The point I'm getting at is this; I've never cared for the aesthetics of the Mesias character. That doesn't affect his work or anything. But I can still hold it against him in a purely superficial way.

I thought Mesias was fine in his role on TNA. I'm not a big fan of the type of character and push he was on, but he was far better than most of the hoss types that WWE tries to push every month.

I know my canine companions are better wrestlers than the WWE hosses.
I thought they overdid the monster gimmick in TNA. They had The Monster Abyss, and Rellik (killer spelled backward), and Black Reign the alternate ego of Dusty Rhodes.
They need more monsters like they need more talk time...

I know.
And the stupid thing is, Rellik and Dusty's kid are actually pretty average sized guys. They're not even really "monsters" in my opinion.
KSSassy - March 13, 2008 12:02 PM (GMT)
Dustin Rhodes is 6'5" which isn't over the top big and Rellik is only 6'2.
Judas Mesias is only 6'0". He had the overall image of a monster but not when everyone else is so much larger than he is. And the wrestling attire did distract from any "monster image" he may have been supposed to portray. That's what happens when the wrestlers are responsible for their own ring attire. I've only seen him in one other color (I think it was black and red, but I'm not sure) and that was when he was working in Puerto Rico as Ricky Banderas.
TNA's programming has gotten so bad that I haven't even purchased this month's pay per view -- and I'm not sure I want to. The price doesn't go down even if you wait all week -- at least Time Warner doesn't drop the price -- and I can't justify paying for something that just doesn't interest me anymore. I haven't forgiven them for the Pacman Jones crap.

I got the impression that business had picked up for them. Since I haven't been following it for very long, I'm not sure what did it.

Pena dying had something to do with it now that I really think about it. He died and then the titles slowly started making their way back in.

I think I start paying attention to lucha libre after Pena's death. I think the AAA title was around when I first watched a AAA match.
Mad Dog - March 20, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
For the longest time they only had the Women's belt and the Mixed Tag belts changing hands. You'd never really see the other belts. CMLL has been a little similar about it too. The belts have always been there but they were background at best until Mistico really started to climb to the top. Then the belts really started to come to the forefront and matter.
KSSassy - March 20, 2008 01:31 PM (GMT)
Do you know if I will be able to pick up any CMLL via the Internet? YouTube is nice for a match or so but I'd like to see an entire show.
