"Imitation of Life" by R.E.M.

The Last Free Voice - February 23, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
I like this idea.

And REM is good stuff. I should listen to more of them. I only know the songs you hear on the radio...

Big F'N Swigg - February 23, 2008 09:51 PM (GMT)
No, really, you shouldn't.

SamoaRowe - February 24, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
"Imitation of Life" is a pretty good song, but I LOVE the video.

As far as the rest of R.E.M.'s catalog goes, I've typically liked the singles, but the rest of their work is hit or miss.

"1979" by Smashing Pumpkins

whitemilesdavis - February 24, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
I alwaysliked the vibe of that song, though not necessarily the song itself. Pumpkins were kinda like that alot, where they crafted a cool atmosphere, but then just didn't take it anywhere.

Erick Von Erich - February 24, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
Rowe is hereby deducted 32 Cool Points for pimping REM like it's something special, then an additional 45 Cool Points for posting a frickin' Smashing Pumpkins video.

Big F'N Swigg - February 24, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
Well, so far he's given us 2 bands that are hit or miss outside their singles. Up next, Red Hot Chili Peppers

Erick Von Erich - February 24, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)

Saw these clowns, live, last night. It was awesome.

whitemilesdavis - February 25, 2008 12:20 AM (GMT)
I'm kinda tired of the 80's revival novelty bands.

SamoaRowe - February 25, 2008 03:40 AM (GMT)
I might lose cool points for my musical tastes, but I think I deserve some credit for starting this thread B) .

whitemilesdavis - February 25, 2008 01:42 PM (GMT)
Hey, anybody pimping early 90's bands is cool with me.

Big F'N Swigg - February 25, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
Somebody remind me how to embed videos. I'll add to this thread

Copy and paste the embed link from youtube/dailymotion, and then use the doHTML feature to post it on the board.

"No Rain" by Blind Melon

Big F'N Swigg - February 25, 2008 06:32 PM (GMT)
Good choice, Rowe. Great band, Great song, Great Album

Erick Von Erich - February 25, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
Just counting the posts until we get something as obscure as a Nirvana or Beastie Boys video!

This one's educational. Watch the dance examples. I learned "Pickin' up Change" from this:

whitemilesdavis - February 26, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
While the No Rain video does fit my early 90's criteria, I hated that video. PLus, it was one of those that evrybody loved, then bought the album and the band sounded nothing like that.

whitemilesdavis - February 26, 2008 01:09 AM (GMT)
Good choice there EVE. I remember going to clubs with my friends when we were like 18 and doing those stupid dances. Loads of fun.

SamoaRowe - February 26, 2008 04:47 AM (GMT)
Good video, indeed, EvE. Though, I must say, I'm very tempted to make my next posts Nirvana and Beastie Boys just for that comment. B)

Shit, I hope I did that right.

And everyone loves the bouncing souls... or should...

1) Yes, someone should post some Toad the Wet Sprocket...

2) Yes, the Bouncing Souls are awesome.

So what do you have to input for these videos to show up as videos? Use doHTML, and then the embed tag?

oh... That easy, huh?

Big F'N Swigg - February 26, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
And now for something completely different

Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen

SamoaRowe - February 26, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
Good video, Swiggy, and way to bring the variety :). Queen was a fun act, and it cracks me up knowing that if they were to come around for the first time today, rock radio wouldn't touch them.

Just ro really get the early 90's vibe, here's Fishbone playing live on Arsenio Hall Show.

SamoaRowe - February 26, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
It's awesome to see the early 90's getting so much love. I think the era has been hideously underrated.

Metrodome - February 26, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
Yeah, all we need now are the Posies.

Big F'N Swigg - February 26, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
I love the Sick of It All video, E. It's great to see that emo has never been cool

Big F'N Swigg - February 27, 2008 05:17 AM (GMT)

Nemesis-Earth Crisis

My favorite original Earth Crisis song. The only Earth Crisis I like more is their cover of "Paint it Black"

"Found Out About You" by Gin Blossoms

It wouldn't be a 90's nostalgia trip without the Gin Blossoms.

Big F'N Swigg - February 27, 2008 05:23 AM (GMT)
Where's the "Hey Jealousy?"

"Hey Jealousy" by Gin Blossoms

Oh yeah, I do take requests B) .

Erick Von Erich - February 27, 2008 06:06 AM (GMT)
Grrrrrrr.....

More of the early/mid 90's stuff that makes the kids pee. Hey look, it's Rowe! Err, I mean, it's Frank Black:

[doHTML]<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CBBu2O7Eioo&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CBBu2O7Eioo&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>[/doHTML]

All this 90's "alternative" stuff is making me long for my favorite spank-bank video chick of the time: Liz Phair.

whitemilesdavis - February 27, 2008 01:39 PM (GMT)
Speaking of Frank Black, the Pixies may have been the worst live band ever. I saw them open for U2 around 91. My gawd, it was awful.
