Title: Wrestlemania 24
Description: Hope it doesn't rain...

SamoaRowe - February 19, 2008 03:53 PM (GMT)
So far, the card stands as:

WWE Championship:
Randy Orton © vs. John Cena vs. Triple H

World Heavyweight Championship:
Edge © vs. The Undertaker

Money in the Bank ladder match:
Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. six TBD superstars

My first impressions of this card:
Not thrilled about Triple H in the main event. It doesn't feel right and that he's only in there because he wants to be and has the backstage power to make it happen. Also, I was hoping that Money in the Bank would be down to six participants again this year. It was fine last year, but I was aggrivated by how Edge and Orton go thrown in there (when it felt like they should have had a singles match instead) and I'm afraid that feuds that should have a one on one match will get tossed into it again this year for the sake of time. And as much as I liked Wrestlemania 23, they could easily have fit another match on the show with all the time they wasted with "All Grown Up" videos, etc.

SamoaRowe - February 19, 2008 04:09 PM (GMT)
On a side note, I'll laugh my ass off if Chavo Guerrero ends up in MiTB.

dynamite kido - February 19, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
I posted this in the RAW thread as I didn't see this one yet. Here's what I posted....

Edge/Taker - World title
HHH/Cena/Orton - WWE Title
Candace/Beth Phoenix - Women's title
Ric Flair/HBK - Retirement match if Flair loses
Money in the Bank w/ Jeff Hardy + 5 others
Mayweather vs Big Show in some capacity

Agree?/Disagree?

SamoaRowe - February 19, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
I hope Candice/Beth is the women's match, because they are capable of putting on a damn solid bout. I'll cry if Ashley or Maria gets tossed into the mix.

Flair/HBK seems certain.

The most likely rumor about Mayweather's match is that he'll team up with Rey Mysterio and face Big Show and Shane McMahon. Supposedly, Rey is going to gut out his injury until 'Mania so he can get the big pay day.

I'm also expecting Vince/Finlay, or something along those lines.

SamoaRowe - February 19, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
Nevermind about Rey:

QUOTE
Jason Powell of Pro Wrestling Torch is reporting that Rey Mysterio has opted to have surgery to repair his torn right biceps that he suffered during a Smackdown tour of South America last week. The procedure will be performed by Dr. James Andrews on Friday morning.

The surgery, of course, derails the reported Rey Mysterio & Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show & Shane McMahon match for WrestleMania 24. WWE will go forward with the Show/Mayweather angle and come up with another WM24 plan.

The decision was said to be a tough one for Mysterio because he did not want to miss a second consecutive WrestleMania and he knew how important the match was going to be in the advertising. He has been assured that he will still be involved in the angle in some capacity.

Mysterio sat out from November 2006 to August 2007 recovering from major knee surgery. The fact that he has suffered another injury that will require 4-6 months of recovery less than a year after coming back from a 9-month recovery from knee surgery along with his age creeping to the mid-30s (Rey turned 33 in December), you have to wonder how much more Rey's body can tolerate.

Sucks that he's going to miss a second straight Wrestlemania.

dynamite kido - February 19, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
That does suck about Rey, but at least he's getting his shit taken care of. Also, I have a feeling that he's lucky that he didn't get himself involved in the Mayweather shit.

I'm thinking Vince/Finlay is off and possibly a JBL/Vince vs. Horny/Finlay. Otherwise maybe a Finlay/JBL match with what they did on RAW last night.

SamoaRowe - February 19, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
I'd prefer JBL/Finlay, but I wonder why they're dropping JBL's heat with Jericho. I was hoping they were heading into a Texas bull-rope match at 'Mania.

I'm thinking it's because they haven't been too happy with Jericho's return.

God I'm glad I've stopped watching.

Not directed at you, of course :).

dynamite kido - February 20, 2008 05:44 AM (GMT)
I actually agree, neither of their impacts meant much of anything.

Viceroy Virus - February 21, 2008 12:37 AM (GMT)
If no JBL/Jericho, Jericho will probably end up in MitB - and most likely win in which case.

Viceroy Virus - February 21, 2008 01:05 AM (GMT)
So....

Edge vs. Undertaker...

Another title win for Undertaker seeing this is WM, as long as there isn't a DQ or count out decision?

Lindsay Lohan May Appear At WrestleMania XXIV
02/20/2008 by Ryan Clark

As reported, Lindsay Lohan was backstage at RAW on Monday night in Anahiem, California. There is now talk of bringing her in for an appearance at next month's WrestleMania XXIV.

A WWE insider told The Sun: “Lindsay spent time chatting to Floyd and a number of our top superstars. She got on especially well with former world champions John Cena and Rey Mysterio.

John and Rey both talked afterwards about how much they’d love to see her at WrestleMania 24 in Orlando - maybe even in the ring!”

Since The Money In The Bank thing is actually Jericho's idea in the first place, I'd like to see that.

Lohan should be in MitB as well.

SamoaRowe - February 21, 2008 03:41 PM (GMT)
Well, my perception of things could obviously change from now until 'Mania (as could WWE's booking plans) but this match really seems like it would be logical for the Hardy victory. He could still hover around the upper card without main eventing. Besides, if HHH is the champion, he can use the "I already beat you once" card, and if it's Cena then they have a nice, big-time "face vs. face" match set up for them.

Or knowing my luck, Kennedy will win again and get injured two weeks later.

Another new match set for Wrestlemania (actually, it's more like two).

There will be an interpromotional battle royal, and the winner will instantly receive a shot at Chavo Guerrero's ECW title. So far, the only announced participant is The Great Khali.

jamiegeist - March 23, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
Does it bother anyone else that they're just calling Beth Phoenix "The Glamazon" in all of the media and promotion shit? Its just that kind of shit that turns off any potential casual fans.

Of course, I also thought "The Rock" would never catch on, and was a horrible nickname.

SamoaRowe - March 24, 2008 02:15 PM (GMT)
I don't think anyone is going to be turned off just because of a name like that. I'd be more worried about word getting out about a lot of the other stupid shit they do on a regular basis (Boogeyman, anyone?).

And while I'm not a big fan of the moniker, I think it does get her positive attention.

dynamite kido - March 24, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
Wow, after seeing the entire card all together like that it made me realize something.

This just looks like your average wrestling PPV. Very little on there says Mania to me.

jamiegeist - March 24, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I agree. And thats just at the surface level. If you dug deeper, and looked into the booking, it is even MORE disapointing. We're at the Monday before Mania, and they've done nothing to make me a give a shit about the conflict in any of the matches, other than Mayweather/Show, and thats the one match that really would've sold itself.

One of the worst Mania builds I can remember.......ever.

SamoaRowe - March 24, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
Agreed. The build to this show has been HORRIBLE. The ECW Champion defending against the winner of a battle royal? JBL stepping into the Finlay/Hornswoggle story at the last minute? Absolutely nothing interesting or new happening with Edge/Undertaker, there is no conflict there whatsoever.

I would have been behind Cena/Orton in a singles match. The conflict was there due to their history in 2007, this would have been a great way to blow off their long running feud. But instead, Triple H decided he wanted to headline Wrestlemania again and got inserted into their conflict and now it's just a mess.

Everything about this year's card feels wrong.

dynamite kido - March 24, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
Although I'm sure they've known it for years but their big PPV seller every year is Mania. I know people that order Mania and don't even watch on TV everyweek. I think this is the year that they are trying to see what they can get away with and pop a decent buyrate with. Because if Mania does big business and it's based on this show, they'll never go all out for a Mania again. They just throw whatever the fuck together and shovel it to you for the show because they know it's wrestling's equivalent to the Super Bowl.

Normally this is the part of the year where I start getting into everything hardcore because they actually turn up the volume on what they are doing a couple of levels. I just don't feel it at all this year.

SamoaRowe - March 25, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)
I could see that being the case, DK, but I have a feeling that they honestly do think this is a "big time" card. They can justify it to themselves in that they really do consider HHH, Orton, and Cena to be their big guns, Edge vs. Undertaker is a big match, and they have a bunch of celebrities involved.

Also, tonight on ECW they are going to reveal all 24 participants in the battle royal. So far we know Khali, Kane, Big Daddy V, Mark Henry, Chuck Palumbo, and Jamie Noble are involved.

dynamite kido - March 25, 2008 05:34 PM (GMT)
Somewhere Scrooge is shitting himself because I would have to say that Kane is the odds on favorite to win the battle royal and the ECW title at Wrestlemania.

Yeah, I really can't see anyone else doing that at Wrestlemania. It should be a fun moment to see Kane win the ECW title, I actually do hope it happens.

KSSassy - March 27, 2008 05:41 PM (GMT)
Has anyone read that WWE pulled the Battle Royal from the Wrestlemania card? Several news sites have reported that it will be a regular match on a regular weekly show and will be available to view on www.wwe.com.

There certainly was a lot of hype about the Battle Royal before, even on ECW Tuesday nite.

dynamite kido - March 27, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Wow, that's pretty fucking stupid if it ends up happening that way.

KSSassy - March 27, 2008 06:25 PM (GMT)
I'll second that. Has anyone seen the final card for Wrestlemania XXIV?

Posted on ProWrestlingFans.com

-- The Wrestlemania Battle Royal has been moved to the pre-show on Sunday night, and will be on WWE.com at 6:30 p.m. The confirmed competitors are Snitsky, Brian Kendrick, Chuck Palumbo, Cody Rhodes, Deuce, Domino, Elijah Burke, Festus, Jim Duggan, Bob Holly, Jamie Noble, Jesse, Jimmy Wang Yang, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Lance Cade, Mark Henry, Matt Striker, Shannon Moore, Great Khali, The Miz, Tommy Dreamer, Trevor Murdoch and Val Venis. The winner faces Chavo Guerrero.

I just checked wwe.com. They are still listing the Battle Royal as one of the Wrestlemania matches. But when you click on it, this is what it says:

The Battle Royal will take place just prior to WrestleMania XXIV going live on pay-per-view, and can be seen exclusively on WWE.com. The winner will earn an ECW Championship Match against Chavo Guerrero later in the night on the grandest stage of them all.

So I guess that's what they have planned. I don't see any new matches added. Does that mean they are going to fill up the time slot with "blah, blah, blah"?
