Description: Let the good times roll.

EvE, you HAVE to use this picture for the spotlight for the review I just sent in :).

Fuckin' A! That's awesome. Is Blue Demon the guy whose mask I emulated for our logo?

...and here I just went and found a picture of "Eugene". Sheesh.

:D It looks awesome. It'd be cool to adapt that picture into an official DWS logo.

And keep that Eugene picture near, we may find ourselves needing it if I get stuck with a Showcase that has all Eugene and no Blue Demon.

Erick Von Erich - February 8, 2008 04:36 PM (GMT)
I could definitely Photoshop that pic to have Blue Demon wearing a "Headbutt, Dynamite" shirt and holding a dildo with the DWS logo on it.

Metrodome - February 8, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
Which obviously should have been done, yesterday.

Erick Von Erich - February 13, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
World Class is up! If you've ever had any interest in World Class, this episode is essential viewing.

Nice review. I wish I had 24/7.

Erick Von Erich - February 26, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
Any chance we could get any reviews this week? Well, stuff aside from "NWA Showcase"?

Really...I'll take anything at this point. If you see two bums wrestling, write an article about it.

Lately I've been too lazy to review anything that is more than 45 minutes long and can be viewed easily on the internet.

So expect another NWA Showcase review later in the week, and I'll think about doing something else soon.

Big F'N Swigg - February 26, 2008 08:23 PM (GMT)
Next week is Spring Break, so I may try and review something

Metrodome - February 26, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
Break already huh? Ours isn't until the 15th of March...

Erick Von Erich - February 27, 2008 06:00 AM (GMT)
Great...we can promote it as "DWB Spring Break Out! From the World's Largest Night Club in Panama City, FL!"

Okay, that's pretty frickin' lame, but I just wanted to bust out that reference.

dynamite kido - February 27, 2008 06:32 AM (GMT)
Just as long as Kevin Sullivan gets to throw someone in the pool.

Erick Von Erich - February 27, 2008 06:34 AM (GMT)
You're just lucky that I'm the Cannonball Champion of Spring Break! (Ker-sploosh!)

Quick Question for you:

Has anyone done any columns/posts on DWS using youtube videos? I'm curious if you can, or if you know how. I just began posting a "The 90s: A to Z" over at thetce.net and if you guys are interested, I would love to contribute it and any future music content. Its basically a little list: Music Video, quick lyric line, quick synopsis and personal thoughts, and youtube of the Video.

Any interest?

Erick Von Erich - February 29, 2008 07:25 AM (GMT)
Here's the thing with YouTube: when you include the EMBED tag, you are NOT posting the video file to your site. You are referencing a file on an external site (Youtube.com). Obviously, we have no control over how YouTube manages its content, so if they made the tiniest change to the file (moved or re-named it), your column would be rendered worthless with a big ol' black box in the middle of it.

It's not like stealing images at all. Even if you save the YouTube video to your desktop with a plug-in, you would steal need a Flash player to display it properly after uploading it to your site. So basically, you'd have to re-edit, re-export and recreate the entire thing.

On top of that, because video files are large, you'd need to make them available with streaming (where it begins playing based on a user's connection and doesn't have to wait for the ENTIRE file to download). Streaming eats up a site's bandwidth rapidly. Which is why several companies go into business offering "Streaming video hosting". They have ballsy servers that can handle the load... with the cheapest being 19.95 a month (plus more fees if you exceed an alotted amount of bandwidth).

Embedding YouTube videos on blogs and forums is acceptable, though. Those are typically living sites with a short shelfl-life. In fact, if we come back to Rowe's "Video of the Day" thread in about a month, I'd bet that 1/3 of all the videos we post in there will be missing. But in that case, it won't matter, because we've already discussed the video and have moved on.

Ideally, you want a website to have a long shelf-life and be self-contained. Everything on DWS is hosted on ITS OWN SITE...and it can stand on its own. Linking to YouTube would make the site reliable on a site it can't control. That's terrible site building, makes the site look shitty and amatuer and the missing content will cause search engine spiders to NOT visit the site.

Or short answer: No YouTube videos on Da' Site.

I remember you were concerned about not being able to embed YouTube videos on Da' Board... but now you can, with the 'doHTML' button. My recommendation is to publish whatever YouTube-dependent column you want to do, HERE.

jamiegeist - February 29, 2008 08:25 AM (GMT)
Very good points. I had that in my head as well, that the last thing anyone would want is to try to access said column in a month, and half of the shit is down. You're right too, as I made a little "Top 20 Cover Songs" countdown awhile back on TCE. I went to transfer it over to the new TCE about 2 months later, and the whole thing was beat to shit, with missing dailymotion and youtube files abound.

I may post it over here. Its just annoying re-tagging something for minimal comments (and that isn't a dig on DWB -- just doing it in general), and because TCE uses some different Invision Pro Board, I would have to retag the {dohtml} stuff.

Anyway, thanks for the quick and good answers. I might just have to learn to do things without youtube assistance. Its just so damn fun though.

Just be glad that Vanderpyle is wearing a shirt.

SamoaRowe - March 2, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
At this rate, in two weeks I'll have filled up the entire main page with NWA Showcase reviews.

Erick Von Erich - March 2, 2008 08:46 PM (GMT)
Ah-ah-ah!! I took your suggestion frm last month (post all Royal Rumble reviews) and applied it to WrestleMania. It's early enough, so hopefully I can add them at a steady rate before this year's show goes down.

Mostly Scrooge's recaps... but I'll be throwing in a few surprises. Starting tomorrow, when the World Class Rocky Mountain Champion recaps WrestleMania 2!

SamoaRowe - March 2, 2008 11:31 PM (GMT)
Don't forget my lovely Wrestlemania 23 review B) .

SamoaRowe - March 4, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
I like your new review, E, except that it's labeled as "Wrestlemania X-7" on the page itself.

I feel inspired to review a Wrestlemania now.

Google AdSense has added YouTube videos to their program. I added a test video ad under our links page. If you're feeling generous (and want to ...ahem... support the site), visit that page and click one of the YouTube links.

It says that the videos will be related to our content, much like the text ads are. Check 'em out and let me know if you're seeing anything relevant to rasslin.

Erick Von Erich - March 7, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)
Also, there will be a 15 minute website outage in the wee hours of Monday the 10th, sometime between 12 am to 6am EST. Shouldn't be a problem.

Our hosting company is upgrading their Linux servers to accommodate more functionality for PERL and Python. Mostly forms and other scripts... which I'm currently not running on the site.

Scrooge McSuck - March 10, 2008 01:15 PM (GMT)
I'll do my best to get in some reviews again, but with the sudden addaption of an actual life, I haven't watched much wrestling lately. My bad. :(

Big F'N Swigg - March 10, 2008 04:10 PM (GMT)
HOW DARE YOU GET A LIFE!!!

Who are we going to make fun of now? LFV again?

SamoaRowe - March 11, 2008 07:49 PM (GMT)
:o

Two Sassy reviews in two days! That's simply outstanding!

Maybe I should get off my ass (or on it... depending on your perspective) and review some damn wrestling. I have a new one waiting in the wings that E hasn't posted yet, but I am behind on my NWA Showcase reviews :).

SamoaRowe - March 12, 2008 03:59 AM (GMT)
Good to see my Wrestlemania VI review on the main site, but it wasn't "The Mega Powers Collide."

I know, I know, E is just making sure we're reading :).

The one thing I've found a bit disconcerting about her work so far is that she doesn't do anything to quantify the quality of the match.

She's a hell of a writer, but she should probably throw some star ratings up there or something.

Erick Von Erich - March 13, 2008 05:14 AM (GMT)
Hey now....I don't rate matches. Or anything else for that matter (okay, except for old GI Joe comics).

But I will tell you when something's dogshit.

Sassy doesn't really do that, does she?

That being telling people when something is total dogshit.

SamoaRowe - March 13, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
I've learned to enjoy reviews that don't include star ratings (though I certainly prefer them).

Erick Von Erich - March 13, 2008 06:22 PM (GMT)
Think I've mentioned it before, but I prefer not to rate things, because it's very subjective to my own personal bias. I'll always think Hogan/Warrior at WM6 and Demolition/BrainBusters on SNME are *****. My proclamation of such should neither boost nor decrease your enjoyment of them.

Frankly, if I sit down and watch some WWE, TNA, ROH or WhatEver Else you guys have rated as "*****", I'll probably be bored out of my skull and want to kick you in your two **. Samoa Joe vs CM Punk for a full hour? Ehhh...I'd rather watch the Bushwhackers and Bolsheviks throw crappy punches at each other for 8 minutes.

BTW...I have a good cache of new reviews that I'll be adding to Da' Site. I'll be spacing them out at one-a-day to keep things flowing.

SamoaRowe - March 13, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
Random question to E:

Would you be willing to post all the photos that have been on da main page in a thread sometime? Just to look back at for the sake of nostalgia?
