Title: Royal Rumble 2008 Stuff
Description: Spoiler: Chuck Palumbo did NOT win

Erick Von Erich - January 28, 2008 06:38 AM (GMT)
**match results stolen from several knobs via bulletins on our MySpace page. As such, I will post results in MySpace Knob Mode

They had a big show with some matches and a Rumble Royale this night at the Madison Square Garden witch is hosted the Royal Rumble.

-JBL and Y2J had a match. JBL won by DQ.

-Ric Flair beat MVP with the figure four in a "career threatening match". How nice.. that's like a "threatening to lose the title match" or "threaten to maybe possibly draw blood match".

-Edge retained his title against Rey Mysterio (Jr.)

-Randy Orton beat Jeff Hardy (who did not sing himself to the ring)

-In the Rumble Royale, John Cena was a surprise entrant at #30..and won-- which was nice, because it meant Cena was in the match for the shortest amount of time possible for a winner. Imagine if Cena had been #2 or 15.

** I have done my duty to post BREAKING NEWS for the year. You're welcome.

I watched this last night and really enjoyed the Rumble match itself. I was diggin on Rey/Edge too.

Everything else was the balls.

I saw the two Title matches and the Rumble itself. How cool was the Snuka/Piper moment?

Fuck John Cena. I'm so tired of him, and I don't even watch all that regularly.

The Snuka/Piper thing was lame. They both looked horrible. Cena's entrance however, was AWESOME, and one of the only true markout moments in wrestling since WCW went under. Brilliantly done, and an awesomely kept secret.

I loved the New York MSG crowd popping like a bunch of 13 year old girls for Cena, and then seemingly remembering 5 minutes later that "OMG we hate faces....BOOOOO". Just a bunch of marks for themselves.

 So true, so true.

I have to say, this was the first time I've been genuinely surprised by something in WWE programming in a long time, and I loved waking up to read the result. WWE did something truly awesome, and I'm going to give them their props.

I really can't stand some crowds, like the ones in Philly, New York, or Chicago. Booing Cena like the sheep they are, and yelling "You can't wrestle" to Khali. Hey, if they think they can wrestle, I'd like to see them get in the ring and see how "easy" it is.

And dear god, Piper looks horrendous now. I was watching the '92 Rumble the other day, and he was sorta ripped. Now he's just a fat slob.

Yes, or "Rotund" Roddy Piper, as I was calling him in 2003.

Nice one. Howzabout "Rolly" Roddy Piper?

Works with the way some older announcers would kinda' slur his name, so it sounded like they were calling him "Roddy Roddy Piper". Which always made me wonder if there was a relation to Rod Roddy from The Price is Right and Press Your Luck.

I gotta say, I'm not impressed with "HD WWE" just yet.

And I don't have an HD-DVD player anyway, so how am I going to see it in HD when it hits DVD anyway?

dynamite kido - January 29, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Am I seriously the only person here that digs Cena?

I'm loving the fact that a guy is on top that is a LEGIT babyface. I'm thinking that's what I've been really enjoying about Hardy as well.

SamoaRowe - January 29, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
Nope, I've been digging Cena for a while now too. He won me back over sometime around ONS 2.

Big F'N Swigg - January 29, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
I don't hate Cena. He hasn't done anything in a while that's impressed me, and his promo work just seems bland to me.

That being said, though, I also haven't seen any WWE PPV's in a loooong time. So I could just be missing out on his good stuff.

whitemilesdavis - January 29, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
Cena bugs me to no end. I just hate watching him in every way. I don't like the way he moves, speaks, wrestles, looks...nothing. I've hated Hardy for...well, forever, but I have enjoyed his recent run. Curious to see if it will be built upon or dropped.

Mad Dog - January 30, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
I like Cena a lot. He's brilliant. He does things to make his fans love him while doing things to get under the skin of his naysayers. The fact that he turns a bunch of smarts into marks for him is hilarious to me. Plus, rag on the guy all you want but he fucking delivers the goods on PPV.

Bingo. I couldn't have said it better myself.

whitemilesdavis - January 30, 2008 03:02 PM (GMT)
I just can't enjoy watching him wrestle no matter what. It just looks...wrong.

SamoaRowe - January 30, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
See, WMD, that's not a problem. You dislike his ring work, and that's fine. That's a logical, rational reason to dislike him.

Some people out there in the IWC are blaming him for everything that's wrong in the WWE and examples of their hatred of him stem from the way he's working the marks who don't like him. "It's his fault there's a spinner belt."

whitemilesdavis - January 30, 2008 05:46 PM (GMT)
Eh, I'm cool with all that. I also realize that because of the crowd reactions he gets, he should be around the top of the card. Doesn't mean I enjoy watching him though, but as always, to each his own.
