Title: Reno 911! Season 5

New season popped up, last night. It's WGA-approved and not affected by the strike, since they completed all of the episodes last summer. A few clips are up on ComedyCentral's website.

I completely missed Season 4...so I had no idea what was going on with Dangle's gay marriage cliffhanger. But that was brushed away about 45 seconds and it was the same ol' stuff.

It had a few funny moments, but some of the gags fell flat. A coked-up guy with fake badges who tried to take over a squad car went on way too long, with the same basic joke repeating itself. Jonesy and Dangle dressed up at a DUI scared straight program was weird. It seemed like Dangle would try to make another homosexual advance on Jonesy, but the payoff gag was Jonesy scoring a high number on the breathalyzer.

Weigl trying to sell her baby was funny, but got too much attention with the goofy TV commercial. Weigl's always reminded me of an old neighbor...one who actually tried to sell her kid about 10 years ago. So it hit about one house away from home. I also got a kick out of Junior taking the bet money and jumping off the bridge. "Oh..he just pee'd himself, so that means he's not dead".

Christina Applegate also had a cameo as Terry's finance'. Yeah, he's supposedly not gay. Rumor is that Terry will join the force this season, which wouldn't be as funny since he'd be without skates and/or giving handies behind Tacos, Tacos, Tacos, Tacos.

I loved the first season but I started to lose interest in season 2 and 3 when they started focusing more on the officers and making it less of a Cops parody.

I'm a fan of the show, but I always watch it in reruns.

Speculation is that the new season will air frequently in reruns. Due to the writers' strike, Comedy Central doesn't have a big load of fresh crap to put out there. No new episodes of Carlos Mencia?!! Oh, the horrah!!

I'll probably forget that Reno's on (like I'm currently doing with UWF) and will have to catch the reruns. I'm hoping OnDemand will have them archived.

Aside from one episode with Diedrich Baber as "Tommy Hawk, Bounty Hunter", this season has been decent. All of the plots have involved actual police cases-- with no cameras following the deputies through their social lives. Nothing with Dangle's gay marriage, Weigel being pregnant or any of the other stuff that bogged down the show in the past.

I lost it last night when they confronted a pervert who had been "putting little kids on a horsie ride, spraying them with a garden hose, then putting it on YouTube".

All the new episodes are being archived on OnDemand, almost immediately. "Thumbs up".
