Title: Yay or Nay: Barry Horowitz

The jobber of jobbers.

I voted yay.

As I said in my SMW reviews he's really been showing me a lot. He has a very good moveset and he knows how to control the flow of a match. His selling is what I would describe as good. He's not a great worker or anything but I would rank him over a lot of guys that are currently pushed in the WWE, RoH and TNA. I'd say he does have good charisma for a jobber. He can play a face or heel with little change in character and when he's gotten pushes he's been incredibly over as an underdog. I still feel the WWF fucked up big time by not pushing him a little harder in 95.

I voted Yay for this one.

Why? Because last night I saw him fight Sunny Beach from an old UWF show on ESPN Classic and I was amazed at how much he salvaged the match. Sure it wasn't good, but it would have been unwatchable if Horowitz wasn't in it.

Also it was the first time I've ever heard him called Barry "The Star of David" Horowitz.

Have you honestly been walking around thinking: "I wonder if people like Barry Horowitz"? If so, I worry.

Oh..and for about two years, I thought that ECW's Sandman was Sunny Beach, all grown up.

I tend to look at him as more overlooked and underrated for being on the bottom of the card and people not realizing he was actually pushed as Jack Hart in the 80s.

That's fucking hilarious.

Also Horowitz had some pretty decent stuff with Candido in 95 too. I never thought he got enough credit for that stuff.

When I first saw ECW in 1995, I honestly thought Sandman was Sunny Beach. Both were dumpy blond guys with the side of their heads shaved.

I think I was mis-remembering "Sunny Beach" as "Sandy Beach"...so I figured that Sandy had morphed into the more mature-sounding "Sandman". Sandy... SandMAN...eh, whatever. It made sense to me, dammit!!

Adding to my confusion, I probably got Sunny Beach's name mixed up with former Packers WR Sanjay Beach.

Hmmm...Horowitz is one of the top, no doubt. What about Johnny Rodz and Pete Sanchez?

Mad Dog - January 18, 2008 07:34 PM (GMT)
Rodz was ok but he didn't have the pure ability. Sanchez, eh, he was ok I guess.

I voted yay. I liked him. There's something about talented workers who are reduced to jobbers for years that earns them sympathy points.
