Title: LOST Season 4 thread

Erick Von Erich - January 3, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
Dude....

Swiggy, LFV and myself were talking about this a few months ago, but I think the time has arrived. I was flipping around the tube over the weekend, saw the promos for the new season and became rigid. New season begins Jan 31 (four weeks away).

Plus, this'll be a good primer to review some of the plot threads we've forgotten about.

Like that fucking Four-Toed Statue.

Or who the hell sent Naomi the Paratrooper? Or who was in the coffin? Or how soon will the Guy From "Cane" be written out? How does Penelope factor in? And will Desmond get some fucking pants soon?

Big F'N Swigg - January 4, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)
I'm watching Season 3 right now

The Last Free Voice - January 4, 2008 05:52 AM (GMT)
I'm so stoked, I can't put it into words. Cloverfield and Lost in the same month? SCORE.

I'm very interested in where they're going with the "Find815" thing, as well. I loved the Lost Experiance, so this is really great news.

I'm kind of bummed the strike fucked up their plans, though. Oh well.

Erick Von Erich - January 4, 2008 07:54 AM (GMT)
They've also updated the faux Oceanic-Air website:
http://www.oceanic-air.com/

They list several cities of service, like London, LA, Sydney and South Korea. All are geographic ties to the stories, obviously. In all, there are 18 airport codes listed. I'm sure a fansite has all of them listed, but if I'm bored at work tomorrow I'll try to decode them from the Oceanic site itself. Be fun to see what types of clues are in there.

Under the "number of travellers" menu at the bottom, the NUMBERS are there: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42

Swiggy-- how far are you into Season 3? I was about ready to car-bomb the writing crew when they killed MR. FUCKING EKO, but they successfully helped me get over it.

Big F'N Swigg - January 4, 2008 02:38 PM (GMT)
I just finished episode 8 last night. The one where we find out that Charlie's going to die. I'll admit that the third season brings the intrigue

Erick Von Erich - January 4, 2008 05:51 PM (GMT)
That's the episode with Desmond's "Slaughterhouse 5-ish" flashback, right? I thought that was one of the best episodes of the entire series.

But you might want to skip episode 9.... "The Mystery of Jack's Tattoos!". It might not be as bad on DVD, though. In its first -run airing, ABC touted it as "revealing the 3 Biggest Mysteries of the Series", in Tony Schiavone fashion.

Get past episode 9 and the rest is pretty darn good, IMO.

The Last Free Voice - January 5, 2008 03:20 PM (GMT)
Season Three got a really bad wrap. I too am re-watching it on DVD, and the pacing works much better this way. The whole "six episodes, break, rest of season" thing just didn't pan out. But ending the mini-season on "KATE, DAMNIT, RUN!" was pretty fucking stellar.

Erick Von Erich - January 25, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
It's NEXT Thursday, right?! I just produced a vomit-burp, thinking I had missed it, last night.

Also wanted to bump this, just so we don't have to see the depressing "Heath Ledger Dead" topic everytime we hit the board.

Big F'N Swigg - January 25, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's this coming Thursday. I'm stoked. Now that I've finally seen all three seasons, I can watch them as they air like a normal peon.

Erick Von Erich - January 30, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
Re-airing of the Season 3 finale, tonight (Wednesday).

Finally found some info on where the hell they might be going with the Four-Toed Statue.

http://www.cryptomundo.com/cryptozoo-news/track-not-foot/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orang_Pendek

Basically, a Malaysian Bigfoot-type of creature. Which would completely vibe with the weirdness of the series.

Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2008 01:18 AM (GMT)
Where was the 4 toed statue?

Erick Von Erich - January 31, 2008 05:20 AM (GMT)
Dude.... it was wayyyyy back at the end of Season 2. Sayid, Jin and Sun are sailing to the Other side of the island. Sayid uses a pair of binoculars, spots a big broken statue and wonders why it only has four toes.

That was it. It was never mentioned or seen, since. Although in the episode where Locke's dad is chained to a broken pillar... the pillars looked like the same type of statue design.

Watched part of tonight's re-broadcast of the Season 3 finale. Had little trivia pop-ups, throughout. Most were annoying, like "here comes Locke!", but they had a few nifty trivia nuggets.

-- They refer to a "Dr. Nadler" in Jack's hospital. Nadler is the same last name as Bernard (or "Rose &.." fame).

--The name of the funeral home Jack visits: it was an anagram of "Flash Forward".

More I think about, more I think that Locke is in the mysterious coffin. Jack's feeling a lot of regret and guilt since leaving the island...and Locke was adamant about them staying. Or at least that's what the producers WANT us to think. Moowahahaha!

From the little preview of the seaosn 4 opener, it looks like Jeremy Davies is on board, as a member of the freighter crew. Davies is the creepy guy from "Solaris" and "Secretary" (yeah... "Secretary" is a fucked up movie that, turns out, a lot of people have seen).

Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2008 01:29 PM (GMT)
I remember that, now. Thanks for reminding me, E.

The Last Free Voice - January 31, 2008 02:08 PM (GMT)
TONIGHTx! YESYESYES!

Erick Von Erich - January 31, 2008 05:58 PM (GMT)
Wow..it's been almost a year. Good refresher, last night...as I had forgotten Mikail was the Others' version of Kenny (South Park) or Wile E. Coyote. You just KNOW he's gonna' get the shit kicked out of him, everytime he appears.

I've been watching "Heroes" on DVD...since people have been telling me it'd be perfect for the LOST and comic book nerd, like me. LOST is still head and shoulders above Heroes. Even though Heroes desperately strives to be like LOST. I haven't read the spoilers or done any research on Heroes, but all of the swerves have been 100% predictable and telegraphed to me. LOST makes me say "whoa... didn't see that coming". Heroes makes me say "oh...that was the surprise? Saw that coming weeks ago".

Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
See, I like Heroes, but it lags a bit. There are times when I watch it where I get completely bored. They make it way too melodramatic at times. I don't get that with Lost.

My other TV addiction right now is Battlestar Galactica. Waiting for that season to start too.

I agree on all those points. Heroes is very melodramatic at points. I am anxiously waiting/hoping for Peter Petrelli to get the living shit kicked out of him.

What the heck happened to Battlestar Galactica? I think it's a victim of the writers' strike. Plus what was the deal with all that "Razor" crap they put out, late last year?

Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
Battlestar's new season starts in late March/Early April. That's about the same time that they're going to release the 3rd season on DVD.

As for "Razor," it's a "movie" set between the second and third season. It's not necessary, but it adds some intrigue into the show. There are plotlines that make season 3 interesting, but you can go without.

The Last Free Voice - February 1, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
SUCH A GOOD EPISODE.

Please tell me someone else watched and everyone just didn't DVR it...

Erick Von Erich - February 1, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I watched it and dug it. I always get a bit miffed when the plots on the island creeeeeep along. I was expecting Naomi's freighter crew to arrive within the first 20 minutes of the show. Instead, we got a crappy CGI paratrooper in the final minute.

I still want SOMEBODY on the frickin' island to ask Ben or Locke: "okay...WHY will those people kill us? WHY is it a bad thing, having them come to rescue us?!"

I guess the big question is "who are the Oceanic Six and who got left behind?" But it was sad to see our ol' happy pal Hurley go from his usual self to New Somber and Serious Hurley. His cannonball into the ocean was his final hurrah. He was blissfully happy doing it, but as soon as he came up for air, it was all over.

Have they ever said why his nickname is "Hurley"? I always suspected it might be connected to Duke's Bobby Hurley (he was big in college hoops, circa 1992) and after watching Hugo sink those baskets last night, that might be true.

Are we correct in assuming that Hurley's flash forward takes place well before Jack's? I was expecting Hurley's pal "Dave" to make an appearance. But Dave's not here, I guess.

More of a bookmark for myself, so I can watch it with sound when I get home tonight:

LOST Missing Pieces

Not essential stuff....more like "deleted scenes". They were supposedly filmed right before Season 4, so you can get a sense of which characters will be popping up, soon.

One features the debut of Hurley's "Newman", a guy named Frogurt. He'll probably remind you, somewhat, of "The Sherminator" from American Pie.

The 13th episode is missing. But you can Google "LOST Missing Piece 13" for the latest link/site (I'd post a link, but the first two sites I found it on had it removed within 24 hours).

The Last Free Voice - February 6, 2008 02:28 AM (GMT)
Lostpedia.com is great. Has all of them up. I like the mobisodes. Good stuff there.

And I loved this past week's episode. The acting was phenominal. Jorge knocked it out of the park.

And yeah, Hurley's FF was chronologically before Jack's.

Erick Von Erich - February 8, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
Four newbies on the island. Do we call them "The Rescuers" or "The Freighters"?

The flashbacks (or maybe they were flashforwards? Moowahahaha) were very interesting. Are these people hunting for the Dharma stuff on the island...not necessarily the island? Tons of new questions this week.

Daniel crying over the crash footage: reminded me of Jack's flashforward. As if he (Daniel) or a friend on that plane had been trying to get back to the island. The actor (Jeremy Davies) played the same exact wiry/neurotic character he played in "Solaris" and "Secretary".

I'm not sure what to make of Jeff Fahey's flashback. Strange that a TV newscast would focus in on a dead and bloated corpse.

I missed the pay-off to Miles' ghost buster scene-- darn Wells Fargo telemarketers. What was the connection between the son's ghost and the stuff Miles found?

Hmm...they acknowledged Walt was taller. Good cover by the writers. After pretty much ignoring Walt last season, he's being referred to quite often this season.

Where was Desmond? Sadly, no "dude" from Hurley, either. That must be his "happy word". Now that he's all somber and brooding, he's no longer using it. At least Desmond can still drop in HIS catchphrase. BTW, last week, I just knew that Desmond was going to say: "He died, brother".

Funny coincidence: after LOST was over, I accidentally switched to CBS and saw that Rose was the guest star on "Without a Trace".

Erick Von Erich - February 8, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
Whoa...just thought of something: doesn't Miles look a little bit like "Orientation Video Guy"?! If they want to make him his son or something, that'd work for me.

The guy in the video talked about "The Incident"...which, as we found out last season, was Ben joining up the Island Natives and gassing all the Dharma folks. But there was still a Dharma presence on the Island after that...as signified by both the training videos and the ol' Desmond/Kelvin/Radinsky hatch.

Not surprisingly, the Rescuers appeared to have biohazard suits with them....like Desmond and Kelvin did. Seems like there's a definite connection between the Rescuers and Dharma. But whether it's for revenge or not would seem to be the big factor.

Erick Von Erich - February 29, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
So I missed the last ten minutes or so of "The Constant" (Desmond's time jump episode, last night). My tape cut out right as Desmond sees the calendar on the boat and says: "it's 2004...".

Could you fill me in on what happened after that? It sounds like he made contact with Penny?

Big F'N Swigg - March 1, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
Well, Desmond finds Penny in 1996, then tells her that he's going to call her on Christmas 2004. She tells him her phone number, then he leaves. As Desmond in 1996 walks out of the house, Desmond in 2004 tells Sayid the number, and he gets to talk to Penny. She mentions Charlie, he lights up, and talks for a minute before the phone dies. Penny mentions that she has an idea where the island is during the conversation. Desmond calls Sayid by name, and thanks him. Farraday is flipping through his journal on the island, and comes to a page that basically says (paraphrasing) "If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant."

C'est tout.

Erick Von Erich - March 1, 2008 07:29 AM (GMT)
Aww...how nice. Really. I just watched the ending tonight on ABC's website. It was nice to see Desmond get a little victory like that. Desmond's had, what, 3 flashbacks in the series? All of them have been highlights, IMO.

Why do I have the feeling that Desmond and Sayid's "helper" on the boat is one of them (Des or Sayid) from the future? Although they haven't implied that you can physically move through time... just your concsciouness. But maybe Des does something in another flashback that indirectly leads to the doors being open and the wires cut in the communication room.

Big F'N Swigg - March 1, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
I don't think so. I think it was Ben's guy on the boat, who a lot of people assume is Michael. I think it was Minkowski, myself.

EDIT: It could also have been one of the higher ups, as they figured out Ben had a rat on the boat

Erick Von Erich - March 1, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
Probably right. But I still think that the Freighter crew has had some previous communication with Desmond, Kelvin and/or Razinski from their hatch days.

Big F'N Swigg - March 7, 2008 03:22 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm starting to wonder if the guy on the boat is Michael

The Last Free Voice - March 7, 2008 04:06 AM (GMT)
That's been my guess from the moment they revealed Ben has a guy on the boat.

I'm really starting to like Daniel. I hope he sticks around longer than the tailies did or Alpert/Mikhail/etc from last season did.

Erick Von Erich - March 7, 2008 07:06 AM (GMT)
With next week's teaser of "someone you never expected to see again", I think Michael's the odds on favorite to be Ben's man on the boat.

I'm not sure about this latest plot development that has Ben being obsessed with Juliet. There was a little tension between them in the first scene of Season 3 (the book club in Otherville, when the plane rips apart), but Ben just seemed way too emotional in this week's flashbacks. He's been more calculaitng and manipulative ever since he appeared, so for him to lose his cool over Juliet seemed out of character.

With Ben, you never know, though. In this episode alone, it seemed like he was a heel, became a face with the Red Sox tape, then became a heel again with the ending. The guy has millions of layers and for a relatively late arrival into the series, he's become an incredibly huge part of the entire saga.

BTW, I loved the little scene with Hurley and Sawyer playing horseshoes. They still crack me up and I still want them in a spin-off sitcom.

I also liked that they gave some relevance to the "Tailies", with Goodwin's undercover assignment and the mention of Ana-Lucia. I loved the Tailies' plight in season two, but it seems like they were all quickly swept under the carpet and forgotten (save for Bernard's little cameos here and there).

Yeah, I'm starting to like Daniel, too. It seems like he and umm... Jeff Fahey... are the good guys of the Rescuers. Charlotte is an annoying bitch and while Miles is kinda' fun, he seems like a mercenary scumbag.

Big F'N Swigg - March 7, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
I'm still wondering if it will be someone else on the boat, maybe Ethan.

I also believe that Penny's dad isn't really behind the boat. I think Ben is playing Locke yet again.

Erick Von Erich - March 11, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
Someone reminded me about the therapist saying Juliet "looks just like her". Where "her" was apparently Ben's long lost love, or something. I'd guess that be a reference to the little girl who befriended Ben when he first arrived on the island as a kid. I'd speculate that a future Ben flashback will show us what happened to her, and how it affected Ben.

I'll crack up if it's MIKHAIL on the boat.

I'm skeptical about Penny's dad as well. But... he was at the auction for a relic from the Black Rock, so he definitely has some interest in the island.

Big F'N Swigg - March 14, 2008 03:04 AM (GMT)
Well, Jin is dead, and Michael is not, YET.

Erick Von Erich - March 14, 2008 03:38 PM (GMT)
Michael's big return was probably THE most telegraphed plot development of the entire series. I was hoping it wasn't him on the boat... but it was. Now we can hear him whine about how "they've got my boy" every scene.

Sample Season Two Script:
Any Other Character: "hey, Mike..how's it going?"
Michael: "They've got my boy!"
Any Other Character: "umm..can you pass the ketchup?"
Michael: "They've got my boy!"
Any Other Character: "Yeah, well, we've got to find some food, get off this island, there's a weird smoke monster, people are seeing strange things, and we've got some freaky science cult messing with us"
Michael: "They've got my boy!"

Michael and Claire need to hook up. That way they can sit in a tent and outdo each other with concern about "my boy" and "my bay-bay".

But I was thinking: Michael had never met Desmond until last night, right? Des bolted as soon as he was out of the hatch and didn't return until Michael had already been captured, re-inserted, and disappeared again.

Too bad about Jin. He's become a pretty cool character. He had the line of the night, last night, when asked about about how he's learning English.

"Sawyer help too. But Sun is....better"

Big F'N Swigg - March 14, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
From what I remember, Desmond and Michael haven't met.

Erick Von Erich - March 14, 2008 06:59 PM (GMT)
I didn't think they had met. Minor detail, but it might play in at some point.

The "Sawyer Name Generator" on ABC's site is very lame. Just a chance for some middle-aged broads to swoon over pictures of Sawyer.

I'm a bit curious over why Hurley seem relieved when nobody else came out to see Sun's new baby. "Is anybody else here?... GOOD!" Guess he's just not into Jack, Kate and Sayid.

Big F'N Swigg - March 21, 2008 03:52 AM (GMT)
So the question now is: Who's lying about the fake flight 815?

Erick Von Erich - March 21, 2008 04:36 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. It's established that Widmore staged the whole fake 815 crash.

Or...who blow-darted Karl and Rousseau? The original Others did it to knockout Jack, Kate and Sawyer back at the end of Season Two. If it turns out to be that Alpert guy and the rest of the hidden Others, that'd be kinda' lame. They just step out from behind a bush and say "oh, hi Alex. Those two are not our kind. You are. Come to the Temple".

BTW, Alex looked kinda' fine, tonight. Never noticed that before.
