Title: Alright, we need some discussion...
The Last Free Voice - November 9, 2007 03:53 AM (GMT)
I know it's a month early, but this fourm is dead as hell, so I'm playing the one card I can think of that will get some talking happening.
What's the album of the year?
SamoaRowe - November 9, 2007 05:04 AM (GMT)
Wow, I've only purchased a small handful of CD's this year, and I doubt any of them are going to wind up in any real "Best of" discussion. As of now, I'd have to go with the free Radiohead album from their website.

Mike Farris - Salvation in Lights

I've never heard of him. What kind of music does he do?
Right now my pick is Saul Williams new one. Year Zero by NIN is a close, close second, and Arcade Fire's Neon Bible taking bronze.

If I say gospel, it's not gonna sound right.
He was lead singer for Screamin Cheetah Wheelies, a band which saw moderate success in the early 90's. He overdosed, basically died, and these are basically songs from his rehab experience. It's like this seriouisly gritty New-Orleans jump-up blues. Also covers a couple of Sam cooke songs, and reworks like some old slave songs. It's truely incredible.

The new Alter Bridge actually.

Really? That's an unexpected choice. The lead single is played a million times a day at the Best Buy I work at, it's pretty decent.

Isn't that Creed minus the douchebag lead singer? Interesting choice. I don't think I've ever heard a song by them.
Real F'n Show - November 27, 2007 06:00 PM (GMT)

The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond
Ted Leo - Living with the Living
Josh Ritter - Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Kanye West - Graduation
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
The National - Boxer
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone
Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
Bruce Springsteen - Magic
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Have not yet heard the new Foo Fighters or most of the new Bright Eyes...
The Last Free Voice - November 27, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
You liked the new Kanye? That's the tops of my "Most Disappointing" list.
I totally spaced on the new Foo Fighters. I haven't heard it yet either.
whitemilesdavis - November 27, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Dinosaur Jr. made a comeback? Where have I been?

Too poppy for you? I found nothing wrong with it. It was what I was expecting, and while it's far from his best, I liked it well enough. Probably wouldn't crack my top 10, but it's definately top 20.

It's fucking solid, pick it up.
whitemilesdavis - November 27, 2007 09:13 PM (GMT)
Just might have to do that.

I just thought it was really weak all around. Aside from Stronger and the track with Mos Def, nothing caught me at all.
