Title: Favorite Unforgiven pay-per-view?
Description: Celebrating ten years of filler!
SamoaRowe - September 15, 2007 04:15 AM (GMT)
It's been a while since I made a poll and I feel like stirring up some fond (or not so fond) memories. Which Unforgiven ppv is your favorite and why?
Personally... last year's was pretty fantastic. Cena/Edge was properly blown off and Trish said farewell the right way. However, the 2002 version is highly underrated. The finish to the main event leaves a bad taste and there is an awful HLA segment (with Rikishi in drag) but the rest of the show has quite a bit of quality (Edge/Eddie, for example).
So please, let's have a discussion, just like in the old days.

Unforgiven06 was fantastic. Cena/Edge was the match of the year and I loved the Hell in a Cell match. Yeah, I know the McMahons tend to suck the fun out of television, but they sure got killed and I enjoyed watching.

:o A response in a nonpinned topic!
You know what's sad, I bought Unforgiven 2006 on dvd as soon as it was released last year, and I still haven't watched it. One day I went to pop it in and I was reminded that there is a Highlanders/Spirit Squad match on the show and that thought soured me on the show as a whole at that particular second (I'm aware of how good the main event and Trish's send-off supposedly are).
So I watched some Ring of Honor instead. I stand by my decision.

Goldturd kicking HHHitler's ass was fun, so that's my pick. lol
Real F'n Show - September 27, 2007 04:09 PM (GMT)
I voted for the original, but then realized I haven't seen it. I was thinking of the awesome Austin vs. Dude match from Over the Edge.
SamoaRowe - September 27, 2007 07:56 PM (GMT)
1999- didn't see it.
2003- one of my least favorite shows ever. When my favorite match on the card is the divas tag match, that says quite a lot.
prof_plague - September 28, 2007 05:19 AM (GMT)
I'll go with last year's show.

I should really get my busy ass down and watch it... and perhaps review it :D .
dynamite kido - September 28, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
If forced to choose, I would say 2002. Although this thread has made me realize that Unforgiven is usually a shitty fucking PPV.
SamoaRowe - September 28, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
It tends to be, though I agree that 2002 was a nice change of pace.
If I did a poll for No Mercy, I think we'd find that it tends to be a rather underrated show year per year.
Mad Dog - September 29, 2007 06:56 AM (GMT)
Hell if I can even remember any of the cards to those particular shows.
SamoaRowe - September 29, 2007 12:53 PM (GMT)

ProjectSelfRevolution - October 1, 2007 03:54 AM (GMT)
It's 2002 for me. Eddie/Edge and Benoit/Angle were by leaps and bounds the best matches of the night. Only the HLA crap sucked with 3 Minute/B&C. Watching RVD working a slow style was painful, that match had some decent spots. Taker/Lesnar was just an angle moving match to justify the Hell in a Cell for No Mercy the next month. And the opening tag was vastly entertaining considering some of the workers in the match. *Looks at Test*
Fun show all around pretty much.
SamoaRowe - October 1, 2007 10:41 AM (GMT)
It was funny, at the time I had heard that Unforgiven 2002 was awful (the finish to the main event and the HLA stuff gave it that rep) but I saw it on tape for 9.99 at FYE during a lunch break and picked it up (this was still 2002). It was actually the first modern era ppv I'd purchased on video and it blew me away by how good it actually was (mainly Eddie/Edge and Angle/Benoit).
Therefore, I started giving other shows I'd heard were poor a chance and received mixed results (stares at No Way Out 2003, the piece of shit).
Mad Dog - October 1, 2007 01:00 PM (GMT)
That show was really a one trick pony. Wow, looking at some of those cards this is really a PPV with a history of sucking.
SamoaRowe - October 1, 2007 08:35 PM (GMT)
Hell yeah. So far it seems that the only two really worthwhile ones were 2002 and 2006. And with ten year's worth of shows, that is fucking sad.

Unforgiven > No Mercy. Has there ever been a good No Mercy show?

Out of the ones I've seen, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2006 are what I'd consider to be "good shows." I think No Mercy has a decent track record for non "big four" shows.

I did not see 2004 or 2006 so I cannot really comment on those without sounding like a jack-off. I've seen the rest though and none of them were all that memorable. 2000-2002 were all one match shows.
SamoaRowe - October 25, 2007 10:30 AM (GMT)
2000 and 2001 are both from an era when WWE pay-per-views were filled with matches that delivered. Even the bottom card bouts were much better than they would have looked on paper (as I stare at the Dudleyz vs. Big Show and his partner of the week from 2001).

Thanks, Spawnie Guy. You finish up your five-day beat off early with time to reply? How kind of you. I hope you didn't rush just for me.
Douchebag.
