WWE is sad to report that Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in their home. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Tonight's Raw will be a tribute to Chris and his family.

WTF :o

The Last Free Voice - June 25, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
Apparently the Meltz is reporting this too... My first reaction was that this is just some bad continuation of the McMahon thing... but... shit.

D.A.V.E. - June 25, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
i.........no. I just can't.....

Roy Preppy - June 25, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)
What... The... Fuck... :(

SamoaRowe - June 25, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
I can't even begin to comprehend this right now. It just seems too horrible to take in. I can't wait to hear what the cause of deaths were.

But yeah, I just can't accept this right now. And I would hope that tonight's Raw kicks off with an out of character Vince McMahon announcing the end of his "death" angle.

eStragand - June 25, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
Shocked.

Saddest thing is "and his family". That sounds awful.

Here's the clip from the Vengeance results:

It was reported earlier tonight that Benoit had to leave Houston and head back home due to personal reasons.

Between reading that and with what happened today, one can only question what happened.

It's reported he, his wife Nancy (wrestling manager Woman), and his seven-year old son died.

Benoit has another son from his previous marriage who is in Canada at this time.

UPDATE: Benoit was scheduled to wrestle in Beaumont, Tex., but WWE personnel were told he missed the show due to a family member being sick. He was last seen by WWE personnel at last week's TV tapings.

We will continue to update the story.

MORE DETAILS ON DEATH OF CHRIS BENOIT & FAMILY
By: Bob Ryder
6/25/2007 6:36:57 PM

Details remain very sketchy regarding the tragic news today that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead at their Atlanta area home.

Benoit had been scheduled to appear on a WWE house show on Saturday. Sources tell us Benoit called to first say he would be taking a later flight, and then to say he would not be attending the house show due to a family illness. According to one source, Benoit said both his wife and son were throwing up blood and he needed to stay to take care of them.

At last night's Vengeance pay-per-view, Benoit was replaced in his match by Johnny Nitro.

No other details are available at this time and police are on the scene at the Benoit residence investigating.

Anyone else think it may have been carbon monoxide poisoning?

I hope it wasn't foul play.

I am in complete disbelief right now.

Benoit has been, and always will be my favorite wrestler and my hero. I just cannot believe that Chris is gone. 1967-2007 is not long enough.

I'm with Vyce on this, I generally don't get emtional over wrestlers dying, death is the only gurantee in life, but, I shed many tears during the opening of Raw tonight.

Rest in Peace Chris Benoit, I will never forget you, and I love you and hope your journey in life was as marvelous as you were, and I hope the next stage in your existence will be as perfect as your life was. God bless you.

It's a possibility but with Benoit traveling so much I don't know how he would die at the same time as the family due to less exposure.

There were no signs of gunshot wounds or stabbing, according to Pope. Authorities are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation, or strangulation. Pope told ABC News that his department is looking at this situation as a "possible double murder, suicide."

Pope said "the instruments of death were located on scene," but would not specify what those instruments are or where in the house the bodies were found. Pope added the department is "not actively searching for any suspects outside of the house."

Wrestler Benoit, wife and son found dead

By DEBBIE NEWBY, Associated Press Writer 5 minutes ago

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.

The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

Lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, told The Associated Press the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and that the causes of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday. Pope said the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.

The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers.

Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion. He also held several tag-team titles during his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

The native of Canada maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

"My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend," Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. "Chris was always first-class — warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business."

The newest reports say "possible double murder-suicide"

Tempest - June 26, 2007 04:00 AM (GMT)
If someone broke into Chris' house and killed his wife and kid, then he came home saw it and killed himself out of grief would they still use that same wording?

Because I don't wanna think of Benoit being able to do something like this.

I'm not going to let the speculation get me. I know this makes me sound retarded, but I won't believe anything unless it's on a major news outlet or WWE.

How do you cope with the possibility that one of your biggest heroes could do such things?

Big F'N Swigg - June 26, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
This is going to be one hell of a long week....

The Last Free Voice - June 26, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
I refuse to believe that those reports could be true.

SamoaRowe - June 26, 2007 04:14 AM (GMT)
I really don't want it to turn out that Benoit murdered his wife and child before killing himself. That revelation would be impossibly to comprehend.

I want proof as well, but I don't want to go into any denial over this either.

The Last Free Voice - June 26, 2007 04:19 AM (GMT)
It's on WWE.com as a double muder-suicide...

Mad Dog - June 26, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
From the body placement they released I'd say it's very likely that he did it. Someone could be jumping the gun big time but it sounds like they have a murder weapon.

Sigh... Benoit was my favorite wrestler but if he did this I could never look at him the same way again.

Big F'N Swigg - June 26, 2007 04:26 AM (GMT)
I'm not even going to trust Meltzer on this. I'm going to need police reports and major news outlets.

How are WWE going to deal with TV this week if it comes out that he did it?

They've said Nancy died on Saturday, Daniel on Sunday and Benoit today. That almost immediately rules out an outside attacker. Trust me, I don't want to believe it but a lot of things are adding up really quickly to say that this is a very likely scenario.

Tempest - June 26, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
I don't give a shit how awesome Benoit was as a wrestler (and he was). But, if he killed his own little seven-year old son and his wife I'm glad the bastard's dead. No one deserves to live on after doing something like that.

If it wasn't him, and I hope it wasn't, then its all the more unfortunate.

My point is, that I'm not going to listen to "sources." I'm waiting on the police to announce it publicly before I start believing things. As much as I've seen, the location was credited to "sources." Of course, I don't have a WON subscription, so I couldn't count on that anyhow

Mad Dog - June 26, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
Meltzer's getting that from the AP actually.

Big F'N Swigg - June 26, 2007 04:41 AM (GMT)
The time of death, yes, but the location, no

Mad Dog - June 26, 2007 04:51 AM (GMT)
I was referring to time of death as far as this. Where they were found really doesn't matter as you could still include an outside attacker just with that. Time of death tells you that Nancy died first, their son second and Benoit last over a 2 day period or so. Now they could've been poisoned from an outside source but even then I'm not sure how that matches up with time of death.

I don't want to believe he killed his family. My feelings toward him have been well known on the net for this entire decade. But if he did it he did it. I don't want to believe it but it does add up as far as what's out there.

Mad Dog - June 26, 2007 06:05 AM (GMT)
The DA came out and said he's confident the murder-suicide scenario is what happened.

dynamite kido - June 26, 2007 06:12 AM (GMT)
Regardless of what happened this is all incredibly horrible.

I honestly don't wanna believe he did it, but if so I'll be totally speechless. But all signs right now point to the worst possible scenerio.

Mad Dog - June 26, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)
WWE.com has taken down the video testimonials from other wrestlers and the tribute video. I expect his career retrospective to be coming down soon too.

Big F'N Swigg - June 26, 2007 12:13 PM (GMT)
I'm taking down my blog post about it. Not because I don't still believe it, but because I don't want someone to find it and then plaster me with "d00d, he totally killed his fams!"

Big F'N Swigg - June 26, 2007 12:41 PM (GMT)
In an odd irony, I've now become happy that Paris Hilton is out of jail, because it gives me something to read and think about other than Benoit.

SamoaRowe - June 26, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
This is something I just wrote for my blog, it should be up soon, but the site is being slow for some reason.

QUOTE
Yesterday afternoon I was just checking the forums and my usual websites before sitting down to have dinner with my girlfriend, when I saw something that shocked me. "Chris Benoit and family found dead." At first, I didn't know what to make of this, especially after two weeks of "mourning" Mr. McMahon after his staged limousine explosion. But there it was, on WWE.com, that Chris Benoit and his family had been found dead. As more details became available, it was specified that by "family" they meant his wife, the former wrestling valet known as Woman, and their youngest son, who was seven years old. Benoit's other two sons were in Canada, and are alive. At first there were no details on what happened, just that police were investigating. The first two theories that popped into my head were that the family died from carbon monoxide poisoning or someone busted into their house and murdered everyone. I didn't want to even think for a second that my favorite wrestler could have committed a murder/suicide. It simply could not have been that.

But now there are reports everywhere, from legit news sources like the Atantla DA office and such, that they believe this was indeed a murder/suicide. They believe that Woman was killed on Saturday, the son was killed on Sunday, and Benoit took his own like on Monday. There is still no word on what the cause of death was, though I assume it would have been shooting. I don't even know how to begin to comprehend this.

Chris Benoit: the former World Heavyweight Champion, Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, multi-time Tag Team Champion, and internationally loved and respected professional wrestler. Chris Benoit, a man who I believed in. In a "fake" sport, Benoit was my hero. He represented everything about wrestling that I loved and percieved to be good. I remember going to my first wrestling show in 2002, and it was Benoit's first television match since coming back from neck surgery. That meant the world to me at the time. Later that year I saw Benoit team up with Kurt Angle and tear the house down against Edge and Rey Mysterio in a 26 minute 2/3 falls tag team match. That meant the world to me as well.

But now my hero is murderer. I don't know how to take this. I don't want to be in denial and grasp to any theories that somehow it didn't happen that way. I don't want to make excuses for him either. All I know is that this is going to haunt me for a very long time to come.

The lack of an understandable explanation to the circumstances of the death of Chris, Nancy and Daniel Benoit has left virtually the entire wrestling community reeling.

Within WWE, the obvious questions and lack of answers are no different from fans and most of his long-time friends.

Vince McMahon was the inspiring general both to the wrestlers as well as the office staff all day yesterday. He held it together and was a rock of strength for much of the talent, which because of their admiration and in many cases love for Benoit, were saddened, perplexed and having an incredibly difficult time dealing with it.

Vince made the decision to run Smackdown and ECW tapings tonight without any angles or backstage storylines. The show will consist of straight wrestling matches and like last night, the original shows were scrapped. The attempt to put together a show was difficult because the crew and creative staff were said to be both emotionally and physically wrecked after yesterday.

The belief is they will brief viewers on what happened early in the show, and then product two low key shows of nothing but matches.
