Tempest - June 17, 2007 09:46 PM (GMT)
- For those of you that don't know, WCW's "Power Hour" is the precursor to WCW's Saturday morning program, Worldwide

Tony Schiavone and Larry Zybyso are your hosts for the hour. "Tonight" we get, as our double main event Barry Whendam vs. Brad Armstrong and the awesome combination of Z-Man and Johnny Gunn taking on Steve Austin and Brian Pillman (!!!!!).

Paul to the second rope, Buff counters a splash by getting the knees up. Back up, we get a slugfest, Buff hits a dropkick. A backelbow gets two. A nasty back-suplex ends Buff's night moments later.

Winner: "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff

Rating: *- Generous rating; the match itself was nothing more than an extended squash but both guys did their thing well enough.

- Next we get an extended segment updating us on the new matches signed for Superbrawl 3. Of note; Chris Benoit's near five star classic with Too Cold Scorpio.

- Back to the action. And its gonna be a good one.....

Vinne Vegas vs. "The Gentleman" Chris Sullivan

I don't beleive Chris Sullivan is any relation to Dave. He looks like Howard Finkel with a ponytail, as a matter of fact.

Lockup to start, Sullivan wrings the arm and hammers on it. Vegas clotheslines his to escape. In the corner, Vegas hammers away with some knees. Sullivan tries to fight back but eats a bodyslam instead. Side-suplex, Vegas picks up Sullivan at two. Sullivan takes a knee. Vegas goes to some choking in the corner. He chokes with his boot. Vegas with a headlock and a punch to the throat. A Snake Eyes finishes it moments later.

Winner: Vinnie Vegas

Rating: DUD- More squash than an employee gym. Not good.

- Our next match is another squash as Cactus Jack faces John Peterson.

Cactus Jack vs. John Peterson

Lockup. Peterson goes to the arm. Didn't he see the last match? That doesn't work. Jack hammers out and kicks away. To the apron, Jack drops a leg over the bottom rope. Jack "Bang, Bangs!" Inside, Jack lands a punch and his trademark clothesline. On the floor Jack lands a running elbow. Peterson gets tossed back inside. A Double Arm DDT ends his night a second later.

Winner: Cactus Jack

Rating: DUD- More squash than Thanksgiving dinner. At least it was energetic.

- Our next match is half of the "double main event".

Barry Whendam vs. Brad Armstrong

- But before that we get more Superbrawl 3 hype, this time focusing on Barry Whendam's big NWA title match with The Great Muta, in Missy Hyatt's segment "Missy Does The Male", err "Mail". In no uncertain terms she states she's going to go eat some Sushi with Muta and then sleep with him.

Barry starts out taunting. Armstrong slaps him. Lockup, a Barry slam attempt goes nowhere, Armstrong gets one of his own. Barry stalls for a minute before we get another lockup. Armstrong with a headlock takedown, Barry wresltes out. Back up again, Barry stalls some more. Another lockup, Barry gets a headlock takedown this time. Armstrong wrestles out. Barry reatreats to the ropes to escape a headscissor. Back up and both guys shove each other. Lockup, Armstrong muslced into the corner. Barry fakes like he's trying to block a cheapshot and gets one of his own. That was clever. Barry with an elbow and a back-suplex. Barry goes to yell at the crowd calling somebody "fatso". Harsh... :( A piledriver attempt goes nowhere as Armstrong gets a backdrop. Barry continues the punishment with some clubbing, Armstrong gets a punch but can't follow up. To the corner, Armstrong takes a few chops but reverses and punches away at Big Barry. A hiptoss and a dropkick send Barry over the top.

Armstrong chases and Barry eats some ring apron. Back inside, Barry gets whipped to the buckles. Armstrong charges but catches a boot to the mush. Barry misses a clothesline, an Armstrong suplex goes nowhere, leading to a Barry DDT for the win.

Winner: Barry Whendam

Rating: *1/2- Your basic little TV wrestling match. Not a whole lot here, but it was good. And it wasn't another squash, which is kind of refreshing after seeing two pretty boring ones in a row.

- Next up is our "real" main event. "Stunning" Steve Austin and "Flyin'" Brian Pillman vs. Z-Man and Johnny Gunn

"Stunning" Steve Austin and "Flyin'" Brian Pillman vs. Z-Man and Johnny Gunn

I'm beginning to wonder if Bart and Billy had a third brother the WWF didn't want us to know about. 'Ya know, like how Demolition had their secret fourth member that was never mentioned on TV.

Z-Man and Pillman start with a lockup. Pillman goes to the arm. Z-Man counters out into an armbar. Pillman bails to the ropes to break. Z-Man goes back to the armbar, Pillman reverses into a hammerlock. Z-Man counters with a hiptoss. Another tieup, Z-Man muscled into the corner. Pillman gets a cheapshot. Corner whip, Z-Man goes over. Z-Man runs across the ring, fakes a turnover crossbody. Pillman ducks down to avoid it, stands up and turns around into a big dropkick. Austin tries to interfere and catches a dropkick for his troubles.

Z-Man hits another one on Pillman. Gunn clotheslines Austin over the top. Inside, Pillman catches a Z-Man kick but takes an enziguri. Back up and Pillman eats a punch. Z-Man with an armbar takedown. Back up, Johnny G. gets tagged in for a top-rope axehandle. He continues working the arm. Pillman elbows out of a hammerlock and makes the tag. Austin and Pillman do a little number on Gunn. Whipped across, Austin misses two big clotheslines and gets caught with a sunset flip for two. Austin counters out with a rollup of his own, assisted by the tights for two.

Back up, Gunn hits a couple big clotheslines. Austin counters a standing headlock with a tights-assisted rollup for two. Gunn with an armdrag takedown. Austin counters out of a standing armbar with a pretty nasty looking leverage move which sends Gunn into his corner. Pillman gets tagged, and they do another little number on Gunn. Pillman comes in with some chopping and clubbing. He cheapshots Z-Man. Z-Man tries to come in distracting the ref and allowing Pillman to pitch Gunn over the top. Thanks to that idiot Bill Watts that was a disqualification at the time. Austin with a shot now as Gunn languishes on the floor. Gunn makes his way back in. Pillman tags out and Austin comes in with some punching. We get a slugfest now. Both guys knock each other down at the same time. Double tag out, Z-Man gets the mild tag and catches Pillman with a kick and a backdrop off a whip. Z-Man dropkicks an interfering Austin and Pillman. Z-Man stalks Pillman in the corner. Austin tries to jump him but winds up eating a lame looking superkick. Z-Man whips Pillman to the corner. Pillman tries a turnover crossbody but gets caught with a dropkick instead. Austin breaks it up. Gunn comes into brawl with Austin. Austin throws Gunn through the ropes. Z-Man hammers on Austin. Austin counters a whip and catches him on the way back. Pillman dropkicks Z-Man as Austin drops him with the Stun Gun for the win.

Winners: "Stunning" Steve Austin and "Flyin'" Brian Pillman

Rating: **- A good effort from all four guys. Even though it was obvious who was winning it was still an energetic and entertaining little match.

Final Thoughts: Definitely a show for old school WCW fans. The two jobber matches sucked, but Whendam/Armstrong, the tag match, and Bagwell/Orndorff are worth seeing.
