Title: Remembering Akeem
eStragand - March 1, 2007 05:13 PM (GMT)
Also not dead.
Now that Black History Month is over, it's time to look back at someone who thought he was black...and his in-ring career.
He lost by countout to Tito Santana in the Intercontinental Title Tournament. Named after an Eddie Murphy character, he was re-christened in a back alley. He got to fulfill every 13 year old boy's fantasy by handcuffing Elizabeth (well, one arm at least). He became one of the Coolest Wrestlers Ever when he splashed the Rockers. Akeem's career was as bright as the yellow tarp he wore to the ring.
We salute you, Mr. African Dream and Jive Soul Bro.

An action figure is the only photo you could find?
Scrooge McSuck - March 1, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
He's the African Dream, Akeem!
A guilty pleasure of mine, despite grunting like a Bushwhacker in every match.

I should have someone video tape me doing the Akeem shuffle and post it here. Some people actually say I look like Akeem... minus the obese aspect.

Ax has a myspace page?! These have to be fake...
eStragand - March 1, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
Most are... there's one for "Animal" of the LOD and it's hilarious when some 14 year old kid tries to post a bulletin talking about "fake friends" and other adolescent garbage.
"well they thought this dude might learn a lesson, but I didn't learn a thing at all!
Just last night I was out there messin', with a lady who was seven feet tall!"
Scrooge McSuck - March 1, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
Now that was a bi-i-i-ig woman!
dynamite kido - March 1, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
You gotta love the African Dream himself.
Anyone that dances to Jive Soul Bro is a legend in my eyes.
Scrooge McSuck - March 1, 2007 05:45 PM (GMT)
Glad to hear that... I do it every time I watch an Akeem/Twin Towers match.

Well that's awesome, although I wouldn't consider you a legend. Unless you are doing it wearing a giant yellow tarp.
Scrooge McSuck - March 1, 2007 05:50 PM (GMT)
Um...
(puts the order on a yellow mumu on hold)

From Deepest, DARKEST Africa!
Who could ever forget the nonsensical appearence of Akeem on the July '90 SNME when Lord Alfred and "Jim" Gene were wandering around "Africa" looking for... something.
eStragand - March 1, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
Ahh yes, from the days when I first learned to run a VCR through my computer:
Scrooge McSuck - March 1, 2007 07:00 PM (GMT)
That trip to Africa also featured appearences by Koko B. Ware, Jake Roberts, and the Bushwhackers. But for the love of God, where's Toto?!
Not the dog from Wizard of Oz.
Mad Dog - March 1, 2007 07:00 PM (GMT)
Do you have him getting summoned from the dumpster during his first appearance?
eStragand - March 1, 2007 07:04 PM (GMT)
Naw. Sorry, no "First Appearance: Akeem" in the Video Vaults.
Oh, in case you didn't know (and since you're not ME, you probably don't), the initial post for these "Remembering" threads is usually best read in the manner of the Bud Light "Real Mean of Genius" narrator.
I need back-up singers and a sappy Michael Bolton wannabe to drop in some vocal emphasis. "What a biiiiig stripey hat!!!"
Scrooge McSuck - March 1, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
(chuckles like an idiot) Michael Bolton's gay.
I've never gotten to see the Akeem dumpster debut. WAHHH!

Am I the only one that think's ironic that they went to Toto for this?
For those who don't see what I'm getting at is a band named Toto had a big hit in the 80's called "Africa".
Scrooge McSuck - March 2, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
The Twin Towers on the Arsenio Hall Show!

That's the best thing ever.
Akeem = "real brother"
