Title: New ROH Champion

jamiegeist - February 18, 2007 07:40 AM (GMT)
Wow, Morishima defeats Homicide tonight for the title. I was initially baffled, and then pissed, and now looking forward to the HUGE potential setups this has, not just in the States, but all over the world.

And its good that a fucking Godzilla-like Monster beat a little Latino midget.

Big F'N Swigg - February 18, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Wow, I'm surprised.

Well, not totally, I mean Homicide is a TNA regular as well, but I wouldn't expect Morishima to win.

dynamite kido - February 18, 2007 06:57 PM (GMT)
That's why Morishima lost to Joe the night before. It sets up a Morishima/Joe title match now.

jamiegeist - February 18, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
But Joe is done with ROH after like, 3 more shows.

I know. It's so that Morishima can get his win back and move on. Plus, this will probably help them when they run their shows in Japan.

jamiegeist - February 18, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't be surprised if they make Morishima their unbeatable monster, with him running over everyone. Then in a few months, they have Joe back for "one night only", and he takes the title from Morishima and returns it to ROH.

ROH needs a good tournament, it would be fun. I'm just a tourney mark though.

I gotta say, the decision to unify the Pure Title looks even stupider now, if they may not have the ROH World Title for all of their shows. The Pure Title could've taken the main event spot it deserves when Morishima couldn't make smaller shows.

This was a bad move on ROH's part.

How so? Because now a wrestler that actually wrestles in front of more than 1100 people has the title? This is a really smart move for ROH.

Mad Dog - February 19, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
I think it was good/bad. Bad in that he's just too big for the current RoH regulars to match up well with. Plus it's another short term reign if I had to guess. Good in that he has more charisma and starpower than most of the RoH guys currently.

I think ultimately it's going to be good. I can see Morishima putting someone over who would actually need the rub to get the title.

jamiegeist - February 19, 2007 06:41 PM (GMT)
The only problem I have is that Morishima just wasn't that established stateside. Hell, maybe even in Japan. Does he have any major titles in his career?

I just think if they wanted to make the move, they should've done it with KENTA, who they've pimped up to be a god anyway.

See, at this point KENTA would be cool, but it wouldn't work like Morishima.

First off Morishima is something at ROH has never had as a champion. He's basically a superheavyweight. He was established the night before by beating Joe so there goes that. Morishima is established to the point where he should be in line for the GHC, which I can see him getting if this ROH title run works.

jamiegeist - February 19, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I do agree with that. KENTA couldn't play the same role that Morishima can play, just because of their respective body builds.

Like I've said: I like it, I'm just still a little shocked.

Amidst all of the shock surrounding the switch, I haven't heard shit about the workrate. I read that Briscoes v Generico/Steen was about ***1/2 and Match of the Night.

dynamite kido - February 19, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
I've haven't seen any snowflakes for Morishima/Cide, but from what I've heard it sounded pretty damn good.

It's shit like this actually that makes me want to get back into ROH again.

Mad Dog - February 21, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
Also, this doesn't effect my interest level in RoH at all. I had no interest before and have none now. I can't think of a single person on the roster currently that would peak my interest at all. Maybe Preston Quinn but the bots would never accept the old school non-flashly style of offense he has.

TehDoct0r - February 25, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
I love this move. Homicide is awesome, but he doesn't work as a top guy. Mroishima is a fucking beast. It doesn't matter if he isn't "firmly established" because if you were in New York, you know he's accepted as legit. I don't even mind he's taking the title with him to Japan. In fact, taking the title away for a few shows isn't such a bad thing. I'm not a fan of title matches on every single show. It works with a guy like Bryan Danielson, but not every champion should be like that. Perfect example being that no one had any interest in seeing Jimmy Rave vs Homicide, even in NYC.

dynamite kido - February 25, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
I think Homicide was built fine for the top of the card, but not in the way that they did it. Homicide should have had the title a LONG time ago to no avail.

Real F'n Show - February 25, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of Homicide winning the belt in the first place. And I'm a huge fan of the guy. I was liking the route they were taking, ala Dreamer in ECW. Company guy who just can never win the big title.

TehDoct0r - February 25, 2007 10:21 PM (GMT)
I actually think they've done the Homicide storyline arc perfectly. He HAD to get the title the way they were building last year, but if he had a Samoa Joe or Bryan Danielson type reign he would have lost that underdog scrapiness that makes him lovable as a face. He now has a taste of the top, and wants to get back there desparately. They can also use this to make him a little more crazy again, as he worked so hard and finally got what he wanted only to have it take from him so quickly by some fat Japanese fuck. It irks him even more because his two biggest adversaries (Joe and Danielson) had the belt for eons. My opinion, of course, but I like the way it's worked out.
