Title: The Monday Night Special
Description: 2-12-07

I figured this deserves it own thread outside of the normal Impact, because there are several things that need to be discussed. How did you think TNA used this opportunity with 2 hours of prime time?
Of course, the other boards are bringing the hate, but I didn't think it was too bad. The matches were great, and better than anything we've seen on Monday nights in a while. I thought the production came off as professional, and showing footage from Detroit was a good idea, as the crowd there was great. One good thing is that the show came off looking nothing like WWE.
Cons:
While the show didn't look like WWE, it didn't look like TNA either. If they are gonna take that serious tone, that's great, but it needs to translate to Impact.
WAY too many of the promo/ TNA commercials. Seems like half the show was wasted on that, while they could've thrown in another fun match and still had plenty of time for the hard sale.
They didn't get over any new talent really. Well, maybe Joe. The rest of the guys have been well established on TV for quite some time. While it was good to show that TNA has Angle, Sting, Christian, and Jarrett, they didn't have to be in every single segment.
Any other thoughts?

I was really annoyed that they would cut to commercial in the middle of matches. It's not like they're live. But that bothers me about Impact as well.
I agree that there were to many TNA promos during the show. But TNA does that with every special, even the 2 hour Impact they had. It was a regular Impact with an hour of "Buy our DVD" commercials
I do agree that the matches were good, but it won't translate to Impact. People will watch this thinking its an awesome, intense wrestling show, and instead get 5 minutes of wrestling when they tune in Thursday.

The TNA Films camera shots:
Ok, here is the most hated thing to come out of last night. You know why I think it was hated? Because it actually WAS different. TNA found a way to present wrestling that didn't look at all like WWE. While I will admit they over did the effect, it could be used tastefully in the future to accent emotional parts of pre-taped matches. It really didn't bother me much anyway.

I'd be ok if they used it for the whole show, but alternating during the match is a bit ridiculous.

I don't think I could watch a whole show with it, but clipped in say twice in an hour time period wouldn't bother, and may actually be effective. That said, I could certainly live without it.

I was just getting irritated with it alternating. My wife was irritated with it too.
Of course, she was also irritated that Studio 60 might be back from commercial and I was watching wrestling. Either way...

I did find the witchy voice before the 6-sides of steel match to be a bit embarrassing.

TNA had a special last night?
(goes back to reading Ghost Rider comic)

Eh, I enjoyed the special, though it did get tedious with all the TNA commercials. I agree that for a taped show, having to cut for commercials is rediculous.
It is more annoying on Raw or Smackdown, when they'll let a 20 minute promo segment go uninterupted, but won't let a 15 minute match go without a break.

What was on the show? I'm guessing they did a "best of" compilation show.
I'll be hornswaggled if I'm going to visit some other site with diva banners and pictures of shirtless men, just to get results.

Well I thought they did a decent job for the most part. I know they were really pushing it with all of the TNA commercials, but they ARE trying to sell people shit so I can forgive that.
Here's some of my pros and cons about the show....
Cons
The "TNA FILMS" camera. Not a bad looking camera, just way to different from the other camera and it got annoying looking at one match 2 different ways with it.
It DIDN'T put over new talent outside of Joe. Sure they showed tons of video clips during the show, but the matches focused on the major players.
Pros
It did show that TNA has star power. Although we might not care, that's the stuff that draws in your regular viewer and gives them credibility.
The matches they showed were good. It was a good show for people who don't usually get or have seen TNA's PPV stuff.
They got over the fact that they aren't the WWE. Taking pot shots at the dog show, showing that the company is about wrestling (although that seems to be changing since Russo came back, but what they showed is pretty much non Russo stuff).

It was a 5 best match type of thing.
Had a King of the mountain Match.
LAX vs. AJ/Daniles
Christian vs. Rhino
Sting vs. Jarrett
Angle vs. Joe
So yeah, an incredibly solid line-up, delivery could have been better, though.
