Title: WSPW
Description: World Series of Professional Wrestling

jamiegeist - February 5, 2007 07:12 AM (GMT)
Lance Storm to launch new Pro Wrestling Competition

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada.--(SPORTS WIRE)-- Former World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Lance Storm today announced his plans to bring a new wrestling promotion to both the United States, and the World, with television and Pay-Per-View promotion included.

Storm decreed the beginning of the new era of Professional Wrestling with his new WSPW competition. Short for The World Series of Professional Wrestling, Storm has promised the first competitive Professional Wrestling league on the planet, with a hierarchy determined by wins and losses alone. Said Storm:

"The independent wrestling scene has been a goldmine of talent and oppurtunity ever since the WWF bought out WCW in 2001. It was only a matter of time before the stars aligned and things came together to give fans a true alternative of the form of wrestling entertainment that they see on telelvision today."

Storm has signed on with DirecTV, who have agreed to an unprecedented 22 week season including the suspiciously titled "post-season". DirecTV will apparantly be showcasing 2 television shows each week, on Saturday and Sunday, with options for exclusive Pay-Per-View telecasts. More details are expected to be released in the coming days. Storm had the following to say:

"For years and even decades, Professional Wrestling has been presented in the same fashion to us, the fans. For the first time, a new format will be introduced. This format won't be for everyone, as it will have a heavy emphasis on the in-ring action. WSPW will be a true competition for Pro Wrestling fans to follow and enjoy for almost an entire half year. We can only hope that our vision and plan leads to more and more seasons from here on out."

Storm has aligned himself with some of the top wrestling minds and talents from around the globe. The United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom and Japan will all reportedly be represented in this new endeavor, headed by an all-star committee that wrestling fans will know and love: Storm himself, renound Japanese sensation Jushin "Thunder" Liger, the former "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase, longtime WWF standout Tito Santana, and the man widely regarded with being an inspiration for today's current crop of exquisite young talent, Tom Billington, better known as The Dynamite Kid, will lead WSPW into this exciting new age.

"Myself, along with Ted, Tito, Dynamite, and Jushin Liger do promise and swear to give the Pro Wrestling fans the best wrestling product on this planet, featuring the best talent this planet can provide. We are truly excited about this alternative and this oppurtunity, and cannot wait to introduce the 32 men that will be competing", Storm said.

More details are sure to come, and the recently launched domain of www.WSPW.com provides only a tease with "tune in tomorrow for a full breakdown of WSPW". With this exciting announcement coming today, and the current state of today's independent wrestling scene, wrestling fans may finally have a true revolution to look forward to.

WSPW Details leaked!

Rumors have been swirling for weeks about what exactly Lance Storm's new World Series of Professional Wrestling (WSPW) programming will be all about. We are please to give you this breaking news update, finally confirming some details:

Via WSPW.com's "Rules and Regulations" section (the only working section as of yet):

GENERAL

The World Series of Professional Wrestling will be a season-style competition, featuring 32 of the most talented non-contracted wrestlers in the world.

The season will be made up of 17 weeks of competition, with each entrant wrestling a total of 17 matches.

The goal of the regular season is to amass the best winning percentage in hopes of qualifying for the post-season tournament.

The winner of the post-season tournament will win the World Series of Professional Wrestling.

DIVISION

There will be 2 Circuits: The United States Circuit, and the International Circuit.

Each Circuit is made up of 4 divisions:
United States Circuit:
U.S. East
U.S. West
U.S. North
U.S. South

International Circuit
Int'l East
Int'l West
Int'l North
Int'l South

user posted image

Each Division will have 4 wrestlers each.

(Editor's Note)Early reports suggest that the divisions will be represented as follows, based on a little geography, and some insider tips:
U.S. East - Ring of Honor
U.S. West - Miscellaneous Indepenpent
U.S. North - World Wrestling Entertainment (a little confused on this one, since it specifically says only contract-free wrestlers may compete)
U.S. South - Total Nonstop Action
Int'l East - Japan
Int'l West - Canada
Int'l North - United Kingdom
Int'l South - Mexico

SCHEDULE

Each wrestler will face a schedule of 17 different matches.

Each Wrestler will face his division rivals twice each (6 matches), 2 random wrestlers from each In-Circuit Division (6 matches), and 1 random wrestlers from each Out-of-Circuit Division (4 matches). The final match will be announced at a later date, bringing the total to 17.

The post-season Tournament will be made up of 12 teams, 6 from each Circuit. Each Division winner will qualify for the tournament, with the remaining 2 best winning percentages getting the final 2 spots from each Circuit (known as the Wildcard spots). The teams will be ranked according to winning percentage, with the #1 and #2 seed in each Circuit recieving a first round bye. The 2 Wildcard teams will be ranked #5 and #6, and will play each other in the first round of the tournament, with the #3 and #4 playing each other as well. The two teams that emerge from the United States Circuit and International Circuit will wrestle in one match for the World Series of Professional Wrestling.

Ties in the standings will be broken in this order:
1. Winning Percentage
2. Head-to-Head Record
3. Division Record (for Division Ties)
4. In-Circuit Record
5. Out-of-Circuit Record
6. Coin Flip

RULES

Each regular season match will have a 15:00 time limit.

There will be a strictly enforced 20 count outside of the ring.

Otherwise, all general rules of Professional Wrestling do apply (rope breaks, 5 counts, disqualifications, etc.)

ROSTERS

To Be Released

(Editor's Note): Well, thats all they've given us for now. We'll stay glued to the website, looking for any minor updates that might give us a hint on the rosters, or a startup date, or what the two television shows will consist of.

-PWI-

(Somewhat OOC note: Please lay any questions on me that you have. I'll be staying in kayfabe for the most part, but it is hard to write up complete rules for Pro Wrestling. So anything you're wondering, please lay it out, and I'll do my best to answer)

SamoaRowe - February 7, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Hm, I'm a little surprised/confused by the WWE involvment, but I'm sure you will provide a good explanation.

Eeeeew at no support for centering or tables on DWB.

whitemilesdavis - February 15, 2007 01:35 PM (GMT)
Wow, if only this were real.

One question, why does Samoa Joe have a neon green nipple?

jamiegeist - February 15, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
HAha, that rules. I think its from the Lens Flare in the upper corner. Just caught the light, and somehow right on his nipple.

He is the chosen one.

Real F'n Show - February 15, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
Sorry about the no tables or centering thing, but anyway, this is gonna fucking rule if you stick with it. Looking forward to it man.

SamoaRowe - February 15, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
I saw the tables at TCE and they looked pretty freaking good.
