Title: UFC 67 Picks Contest
Description: All or Nothing

Real F'n Show - February 1, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
RULES

I'm only doing main cards for major shows. I'm taking the simple route: 1 point for a correct pick, 0 for an incorrect pick. Whoever wants to participate can do so, but I'll be keeping a running tally of the standings, so to get the most fun out of it I'd recommend starting from the beginning, which is this event: UFC 67.

Picks must be posted 24 hours before the show, which is Friday February 2nd at 8 ET.

Here's the card:

Main Card:
MW Title Fight: Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Eddie Sanchez
Quinton Jackson vs. Marvin Eastman
Roger Huerta vs. John Halverson

Let's be lax on the 24 hr rule this time. Say 2 hrs before or so since we are so late starting. We need a tie breaker, like predicting rounds or something, but we can worry about that later.

Anderson Silva
Cro -cop (Duh. By the way, is that really what UFC is calling him?)
Rampage, even if he loses, still wins cause he's a cool mofof.
Halverson - to be different.
Cote.

What do you mean?

And really a tiebreaker isn't that necessary for the way I'm scoring.

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 01:32 PM (GMT)
Well, as you see, we only had one different pick ( which I only did to have a different pick.) AKA, it'll be easy to tie in this game. So we should pick who will win and how (sub, KO, decision). No points for method, unless there is a tie.

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 01:36 PM (GMT)
Oh, the Mirko Cro-Cop thing : I've read that UFC was actually caliing him Mirko Crocop, like that is his name. Just goes to show you how UFC markets things. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jackson come in as Quinton Rampage. (For those who don't know, Mirko's last name is Filipovic. Cro-cop is his nickname because of his service for the Croatian police force.)

That's not really UFC as it is America as a whole. They probably don't see him being as marketable if they added his last name on there. Plus, Crocop does sound pretty fucking cool.

Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Eddie Sanchez
Quinton Jackson vs. Marvin Eastman
Roger Huerta vs. John Halverson
Scott Smith vs. Patrick Cote

Doesn't it come off ass just a little WWE to you, though? It's a cool nickname fo' sho'. But, in shoot-fighting, I see no need for kayfabe names,

Sure it does. But the bottom line is they are taking a page out of the WWE's book here.

If he was from America I could totally see him just being Mirko "CroCop" Anderson or whatever his name would be.

It's a major reason why people think that the NHL is stuggling so bad. People feel as if they don't indentify with foreigners.

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
I have no problem with simply calling the guy Cro-cop. Always refer to him as Cro-cop and nothing else. I'm cool with that, but to actually bill his name as Mirko Cro cop is just way to pro-wrestling for me. Tyson's nickname was Iron Mike, and a lot of people referred to him in that manner. However, it would have been silly for Don King to bill him as Iron Tyson. Marvelous Hagler? Hitman Hearns? Sugar Leonard? I guess I just don't like a lot of things about UFC. Mirko decapitating Sylvia will make it all worth while, assuming Couture isn't already the champ at that time.

Big F'N Swigg - February 2, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
I'll go on record as not knowing Cro-Cop's last name until a few weeks ago. I actually thought it was his name. And until about 3 months ago, I thought he was Japanese.

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
OK, I'm laughing.

Big F'N Swigg - February 2, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
My only exposure to MMA until a few months ago was talk on boards. I never looked deeper until I moved back to Tennessee

Real F'n Show - February 2, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
I see what you're saying about the tiebreaker, but it won't matter if it's a tie until like the end of the year, and by then it's highly unlikely. If you really wanna go that route we can start it at Pride 33, which is also this month.

And Swiggy, you really don't need to know anything to play if you want. Everyone has about as good a chance as anyone else in this thing.

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah Swigg, do some picks. Do them via coin toss, just to prove how bad the rest of us are.

Big F'N Swigg - February 2, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
MW Title Fight: Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Eddie Sanchez
Quinton Jackson vs. Marvin Eastman
Roger Huerta vs. John Halverson
Scott Smith vs. Patrick Cote

I know Cro-Cop & Jackson will win. The rest were coin tosses

Real F'n Show - February 2, 2007 06:16 PM (GMT)
I'm surprised Mad Dog isn't in on this...

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Where is Mad Dog? We'll force him.

Real F'n Show - February 2, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
He's on now.

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
I struck the first blow in the battle to get him to enter. (See FLame Wars)

Real F'n Show - February 2, 2007 06:22 PM (GMT)
I already commented. (See Flame Wars)

Mad Dog - February 2, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
MW Title Fight: Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Eddie Sanchez
Quinton Jackson vs. Marvin Eastman
Roger Huerta vs. John Halverson
Scott Smith vs. Patrick Cote

whitemilesdavis - February 2, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
whew...tragedy averted.

Real F'n Show - February 2, 2007 07:32 PM (GMT)
That's...5 contestants. Should be good to go if no one else joins, but feel free up until about 6 pm tomorrow if you want to...

Real F'n Show - February 3, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
Lutter weighs in 1.5 lbs too heavy, thus rendering Silva/Lutter a non-title fight. Lame.

whitemilesdavis - February 4, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
Really doesn't matter though. Silva should win regardless, so the title wouldn't change hands anyway. If this were pro-wrestling, it'd be the perfect time for Lutter to get the upset win, setting up a big rematch with the title on the line.

Real F'n Show - February 4, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
Patrick Cote d. Scott Smith by UD
Quinton Jackson d. Marvin Eastman by TKO R2
Roger Huerta d John Halverson by TKO R1
Mirko Cro Cop d. Eddie Sanchez by TKO R1
Anderson Silva d. Travis Lutter by submission (triangle choke+elbows) in R2

Hells yeah.

whitemilesdavis - February 4, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
We need to add some more point opportunities.

Mad Dog - February 4, 2007 11:24 PM (GMT)
That's easy. Just add tiebreakers like what round will a fight in and how it will end. That's a chance for 3 pts. a match right there.

Real F'n Show - February 5, 2007 09:20 PM (GMT)
So if everyone picks the right winner, only the person that came closest on the tiebreaker gets a point?

Mad Dog - February 6, 2007 12:47 PM (GMT)
Essentially or you could just use everything and then add up the points at the end. It would be harder for ties to happen in those situations.

Real F'n Show - February 6, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
Yeah thats what I'm planning on doing for the next event, making for a total of 3 points per fight.
