Title: PRIDE on DVD

Big F'N Swigg - January 30, 2007 02:58 PM (GMT)
So I found out that Blockbuster online has PRIDE on DVD, so I was hoping someone could key me into what to start with. They've got a lot, so just throw me a bone

whitemilesdavis - January 30, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
17 was fun.

Real F'n Show - January 30, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
The best DVD's I've seen:

Return of the Warriors (PRIDE 10)
Body Blow (PRIDE 25)
Total Elimination 2004
Critical Countdown 2004
Final Conflict 2004
Shock Wave 2004
Critical Countdown 2005

Big F'N Swigg - January 30, 2007 06:40 PM (GMT)
Rock on... Definitely picking some of those up

dynamite kido - January 30, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
That reminds me, I gotta start getting some PRIDE DVD's.

Real F'n Show - January 30, 2007 11:27 PM (GMT)
Why yes, yes you do.

By the way, most of the shows I listed are good solid cards, not one match shows. Usually every show that I've rented has had at least one very good match, but I figured you'd be up on more than one good match per show.

And good call on renting, I made the mistake of buying a few shows and only watched them the one time. MMA is more something you should rent as opposed to buying unless you're a hardcore fan.

dynamite kido - January 30, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'd agree with the renting deal.

Does PRIDE do any best of DVD's by any chance?

If not, maybe I'll have to look around for dealers with best of Dvd-r's.

whitemilesdavis - January 30, 2007 11:48 PM (GMT)
Agreed on renting (unless you see them for $5 or something).

I haven't come accross any Best Of type Pride discs. A lot of times, I'll pcik a show based on fighters I like. i always know that Wandelai Silva, Quinton Jackson, Fedor, Cro-cop, etc. are going to be worth watching. On almost every Pride disc I've seen, the quality of fight is pretty good from top to bottom, so for the most part it's hard to lose.

I'm thinking that it's a smart idea for me to start comping the PRIDE show on FSN. I'm entertained by they everytime.

whitemilesdavis - January 30, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
Pride on FSN is kind of like Pride for Dummies, in that it is the most obvious fights in Pride's history clipped down to TV matches. I can understand liking it if you are BRAND new to Pride, but I pretty much can't sit through it.

Real F'n Show - January 31, 2007 12:49 AM (GMT)
Agreed.

And no, I don't think there are any "Best Of" DVDs for Pride. I really recommend the first 2 volumes of UFC's Ultimate Knockouts though. It's the only MMA DVD I own that I've watched more than once...

Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2007 01:17 AM (GMT)
I too enjoy the PRIDE on FSN show. So much that I wish they could get a show on a real network to compete with UFC. Because as far as I can tell, UFC is completely owned in presentation and style by PRIDE.

That being said, I'm going with the aforementioned DVD's. I'm also thinking about getting some of the BUSHIDO events as well

Real F'n Show - January 31, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
The BUSHIDO discs are mostly lighter guys I think. May possibly have different round times and rules or something, too. Mad Dog might be able to clear it up.

Takanori Gomi is definately the highlight of the lighter guys though, keep an eye out for his name when looking at events.

Or as I like to call it, PRIDE for FREE.

I just don't have the cash flow these days to buy tons of PRIDE DVD's or PPV's.

What time is it on FSN again? And it's mostly older stuff that I've probably already seen?

I have no idea, it's on a lot though. I usually just catch it on and watch it until it's over. Although I think they play it against RAW at 9 on Mondays every week but I could be wrong.

If I am rememberring correctly, it is actually a monthly one-hour show. The new show runs on Sunday night here, but since FSN is a group of affiliate networks, it couldbe different in other markets. Like DK said, they show replays of different episodes quite often, of which the timing seems to be at random. The fights are all older fights, and mostly just highlights of those. If you've seen much Pride at all, you've probably seen these fights.

It's not on at a specific time. Which is why I wish it would get on a real network

I was checking out PRIDE's site today and I was wondering.

Anyone actually see Fedor/Hunt?

here it is if you want to....

whitemilesdavis - January 31, 2007 04:43 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've seen it. While it was better than I thought it would be, Hunt never had Fedor in any trouble while they were down. Fedor was just waiting on his time.

They showed it (or one of them?) on the last episode of PRIDE on FSN, I believe.

dynamite kido - January 31, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
By the way, they have fucking everything on youtube I believe. I'll be doing some PRIDE watching at work today, that's for sure.

whitemilesdavis - January 31, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
That's where I've watched most of mine. All the historic bouts are there. Sometimes chopped into two or three parts, but they are there.

Real F'n Show - January 31, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
I never even thought about looking on YouTube for MMA. Good call.
