| Rob Van Dam vs. Edge The tension between these two had been building for months. They were both henchmen for Eric Bischoff, but RVD grew tired of working for "the man." Edge continues to be loyal to Bischoff because Edge wants title opportunities. Anyhow, this is the usual wonderful match between these two, as they fight all over the ring, ringside area, and even in the crowd briefly. RVD hits a cool leg drop off of the barricade at ringside. Edge gets a bit nasty, and lifts up some padding at ringside, exposing the concrete floor. Edge manages to hit a vertical suplex on RVD right onto the concrete. This nearly gains Edge a countout victory, but RVD makes it into the ring. They continue to fight for a bit, until Bischoff's body guard, Hardcore Holly runs in and leaps up on the apron. The referee is distracted trying to get rid of Holly, and then Edge's brother and Mid-Atlantic star, Christian Cage, runs in and hits the unprettier on RVD! This is a swerve, since Edge and Christian were enemies in NEW and it was Edge who defeated Christian in a "loser leaves NEW" match all the way back at the Great American Bash! Anyhow, Edge gets the victory as Holly backs off, freeing up the referee. Winner: Edge @ 13:46 (90/89/91) NEW World Championship: John Bradshaw Layfield © vs. Steve Corino vs. The Rock Both Rock and Corino have bones to pick with JBL. JBL and the Cabinet destroyed Rock's leg back in November, putting him on the shelf briefly. And just a few days ago at Starrcade, JBL defeated Corino to take the CSW Championship and unify it with the NEW title. Corino is disgusted with himself for letting the fate of the CSW belt go to JBL. The crowd is unbelievably hot for this match, as this turns out to be a straight up brawl. Rock and Corino team up in the early goings to double team JBL and hit a series of double suplexes, double DDT's, and even a doomsday device. The problem rises when neither man will let the other cover him, and Corino and Rock begin to exchange punches. JBL hides from the match at ringside for a rediculous ten minute period, meanwhile Corino and Rock put on a good power contest, hitting spine busters, suplexes, etc. Rock positions Corino for the People's Elbow, but Corino leaps up and hits the Old School Expulsion. Corino goes for the cover, but JBL makes his return, hits the Clothesline from Hell, and covers Corino for the victory! Winner and still NEW Champion: JBL @ 17:56 93/98/82 |
