Title: Match of the year 2007
Description: Since the 2006 thread was such a hit...
SamoaRowe - January 2, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
Just like last year, maintain a list of every match that you consider to be *** or more.
Scrooge McSuck - January 3, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
I pretty much gave up on the last one half-way through the year, for obvious reasons. Good idea to do it again, though. :)
SamoaRowe - January 3, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
I know it looks like I gave up on mine from last year too, though that had more to do with Raw and Impact barely having any *** matches, missing Smackdown frequently, and not ordering the ppvs.
This week's Raw had no *** matches either, and I didn't watch ECW.
Scrooge McSuck - January 3, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
As if that meant anything. How many *** matches have been on ECW? 1?
And Raw sucked from what I saw.
SamoaRowe - January 3, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
I only counted two ***+ matches on ECW in 2006. In my list they were RVD/Angle and RVD/Holly.
And if we want to get technical, I gave Cena/RVD from ONS a ***3/4 review. I didn't see the rest of the show though, I only watched the main event on Daily Motion.
Scrooge McSuck - January 3, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
The whole show, overall, is good, but too watered down with WWE.

Yeah, each specific episode of ECW is usually good enough, it just got exposed as being shitty in the longterm by December to Dismember. If they can piece everything together in time for ONS 3, then I might be able to classify the show as being salvagable.

God, December To Dismember was a disaster......
Terkay? Khali? Knoxx?
A mixed tag match?
Bobby Lashley holding the top belt in the promotion?
:(
Poor old ECW fans........

Maybe I was in a good mood. I really liked the way they built up to the spot where Edge got dropped on the ladder. Also enjoyed Edge suplexing the ladder right onto HBK. That, and Randy Orton's interference actually added to the match, for some strange reason. Everything just clicked for me.
Real F'n Show - January 30, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
Wow, Cena vs. Umaga from the Rumble was way fucking good. Just a wild brawl with some neat spots and tons of drama, even if I knew Cena was retaining...
jamiegeist - January 30, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
Frankly, between Rated RKO v HBK & Triple H, HBK v Edge, and Cena v Umaga, there has been more quality wrestling this year (29 days) than the entire 365 days of 2006 in the WWE.
Real F'n Show - January 30, 2007 03:09 AM (GMT)
I don't know about that. Take away guys like Finlay, Mysterio, Benoit, and Regal and maybe you have a case, but there was lots of good stuff on TV last year.
I do agree that WWE is off to a lot better start than they were at this time last year. Hopefully all the Eddie bullshit is behind them now and they can get back on track.
TehDoct0r - February 25, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
I would love to add to this list throughout the year, but I'm not really one to give star ratings. I'll just add what I think should be given consideration as of this very moment.
Takeshi Morishima vs Samoa Joe (2/16 ROH)
Umaga vs John Cena (WWE Royal Rumble)
Those are my only two thus far, with the Cena/Umaga match comfortably in the lead.
Real F'n Show - February 25, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
I can't wait until Joe/Morishima is out on DVD...
In the meantime, something to add to my list:
Shuji Kondo vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima - AJPW 2/17 ***3/4
TehDoct0r - February 25, 2007 10:26 PM (GMT)
I just realized this is WWE and TNA only. My bad.

It's no biggy. I don't even think we have a thread for 'Other" yet.

It would probably be okay to do it all in one thread this year. We could keep seperate lists "WWE and TNA" as well as "Indy's and International" or just combine them.
Real F'n Show - February 26, 2007 07:14 PM (GMT)
I altered the title if you don't mind.

Not at all, just glad to see some discussion going on.
Scrooge McSuck - February 26, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Why would you mind, Rowe? It's my folder!
And I don't mind, since I never pay attention to it anyway.
SamoaRowe - February 26, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
^^^^ Control of this folder should be handed over to me :D
Scrooge McSuck - February 26, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
Over my dead body, Rowe...
Other than the one you assume you stumbled upon last July while in Maine.
SamoaRowe - March 3, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
Matt Hardy vs. Joey Mercury was an easy *** tonight.
Real F'n Show - March 3, 2007 05:00 PM (GMT)
Booker's commentary was an easy five.
jamiegeist - March 3, 2007 06:47 PM (GMT)
WWE has just been producing ridiculously solid TV matches lately.
And Booker's commentary is SO bad. Seriously, it almost wants to make me change the channel. Thank god part of his gimmick is to be an annoying mofo, because he makes me want to slap him.
SamoaRowe - March 3, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'd say that is the point.
WWE has been producing some solid stuff as of late, I'm sure the rest of Smackdown was a good show too, but I took off after the first match.
jamiegeist - March 3, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
The cruiserweight 6 man was way more fun than I thought it would be (especially since the face team was uber-lame with Scotty 2 Hotty, Shannon Moore, and lone bright spot Jimmy Yang) and then the 3 way between MVP-Benoit-Finlay was just downright good. This was the first Smackdown I've watched in about 6 months, and I gotta say, I really liked MVP.
Main Event was a stupid ass overbooked Kennedy-Lashley match where Kennedy could go no DQ, but if Lashley used any foreign objects or got counted out, he would lose his ECW Title. Just super lame, and of course Lashley overcame the odds and squashed Kennedy. There is no reason Kennedy should lose a match with those stips, to anyone.
But yeah, damn good action.
Real F'n Show - March 3, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
MVP's progressed a lot since a few months ago. When he first came in I thought he was terrible and wouldn't get better at all, but he's actually looked like he knows what he's doing in there now and has become a decent midcard heel to boot. Working with guys like Benoit, Finlay, and Undertaker has certainly helped.
SamoaRowe - March 4, 2007 02:17 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I've been pleased with MVP too. My first impression of him was that he was charismatic, but the drizzling shits in the ring. Now I still think he's charismatic, and his work is pretty good. I would like to see him progress into the main event in a few years.
Real F'n Show - March 11, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
Finlay vs. Undertaker - WWE Smackdown 3/9 ***1/2

My thoughts exactly.
I also really enjoyed Hardy/Booker, though I'm on the fence whether or not I'd consider it ***.
Kane/Batista was also much better than I was expecting. Great Smackdown this week.
Scrooge McSuck - March 11, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
WOO! (hyped to watch Smackdown when done taping)
SamoaRowe - March 17, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
Matt Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy from last night's Smackdown, ***1/4.
SamoaRowe - April 4, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
Started watching Wrestlemania yesterday, but I'm waiting to announce my ratings B)
Anyhow, last night's ECW Originals vs. New Breed match gets a *** from me for being a chaotic brawl that allowed all the participants to shine and managed to gain an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the crowd.
Scrooge McSuck - April 4, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
.... FUCK!
You little bastard! You ruined my life for the last time!
SamoaRowe - April 4, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
 That's what you said the last time!
I don't usually watch ECW, but I had a good feeling about the extreme rules match, so I made sure to see it.
I'm also going to update my list with the matches I rated *** or higher from Wrestlemania.
