Title: The OAO Ring of Honor thread.
Description: We really only need one anyway...

SamoaRowe - December 25, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
Most ROH topics seemingly die out after a few responses, so I figured why not. That, and I wanted to mention that Homicide won the ROH World Championship last night from Danielson.

Mad Dog - December 25, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
Too late I think. I would've cared more for a Homicide reign about a year ago.

dynamite kido - December 25, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
The sad thing is the only reason Homicide won the title from him is because Danielson needs time off due to injury.

Mad Dog - December 25, 2006 04:50 AM (GMT)
They really lack good main eventers now that they won't put the title on most TNA talent. I would've put the belt on Christopher Daniels if I were them. Nothing against Homicide but they haven't done a damned thing to make anyone care about him in a long time.

Fuck that. Daniels shouldn't be holding anyone's major title at this point.

Mad Dog - December 25, 2006 01:02 PM (GMT)
I don't know who else you can give it to honestly. Nigel McGuinness maybe? I know most RoH fans would be pro Jimmy Rave but I don't think he's the kind of guy you put the promotion on. I don't know if Roderick Strong is the right guy for a big time indy promotion either.

Actually Brent Albright would be the perfect champion for them. Good all around worker and has name value.

SamoaRowe - December 25, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
I disagree that no one has cared about Homicide in a long time. His feud with Colt Cabana early in the year was red hot, he was a central part of the ROH/CZW storyline (go back and listen to the pop he got in the Cage of Death match), and this title shot against Danielson was built up over many months. I'd say he's worthy to be the ROH champ, though it's sad to see Danielson's awesome reign come to an end.

Big F'N Swigg - December 25, 2006 04:38 PM (GMT)
I think the problem with Homicide is that TNA's booking of him has actually hurt him in other companies.

Mad Dog - December 25, 2006 05:51 PM (GMT)
That is true as well. His LAX stuff has been so great that it's hard to get into him doing anything not with that group. Plus I think him being half of the NWA World Tag Team Champions is a bigger deal than him being the RoH Champion these days.

whitemilesdavis - December 26, 2006 03:57 AM (GMT)
Nigel or Albright would've been the better choices. ROH is now starting to run into the problems ECW had during the Monday night wars. Now, the perception is that a TNA talent is holding the ROH title. Danielson was the perfect guy for them right now, as he's seen as a world class wrestler, but also is fairly exclusive to ROH as far as North America goes. ROH has to get better at building talent quickly that doesn't look second rate, if the promotion is to continue operating with the same success it has had in the past.

SamoaRowe - December 27, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
I still don't think Homicide is going to be a long term champion, so the image of a TNA guy holding the belt shouldn't be a huge issue. Jimmy Rave is getting a title shot in February when they head back into New York, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Rave score the win and the championship then.

Nigel McGuinness would be a wonderful choice to be the champion too. I wouldn't have been upset had he won the title in August (though it would have been a shame to miss out on Danielson/KENTA, we wouldn't have known any different).

Brent Albright may become a great choice later on, but right now wouldn't be wise. I wouldn't be the one saying it, but a lot of people would be whining about the ROH title going on a "WWE reject." That, and he's still new to the promotion. I think with time and build, Albright should easily be main eventing ROH shows left and right.

SamoaRowe - January 3, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
I'm still on the fence about whether or not I'm going to ROH on 1/26 in Braintree, MA. It doesn't look like the weather is going to be that bad, so if the conditions are right on the day of the event, I may drive down and buy tickets at the door.

jamiegeist - January 4, 2007 06:30 AM (GMT)
Looks like myself and 2 buddies are gonna hit up the RoH show in late April in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It'll be me officially popping my RoH cherry, and I can't fucking wait.

This seems like as good as place as any to mention that Samoa fucking Joe is coming to CSW in Lawrence, Ks on January 20th. I can't fuckin wait. They're starting to pop some headliners:

January: Joe
February: Abyss
March: Homicide
April: Low Ki

So fucking pumped.

From the newswire:

January 23rd: Word has already leaked all over the internet and a press conference was held in Japan, but now we are making it official. Ring Of Honor will be headed to Japan in July for two shows. These will be authentic ROH shows. The first night will see ROH work closely with Pro Wrestling NOAH to present an event in Tokyo at Differ Ariake. The second night will see ROH work closely with Dragon Gate to hold an event in Osaka. There will be much more news including several huge announcements about these events in the upcoming months. These will be two of the most important shows in ROH history.

That's fucking incredible news for ROH. They honestly know exactly what they are doing as far as appealing to their own fanbase. Kudos to them for this.

SamoaRowe - January 23, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm really excited about them going to Japan. I expect those two shows will be their largest audiences ever, easily.

Same here.

It's going to be interesting to see how the Japanese crowd reacts to this.

I think these will be the next two shows I actually get of ROH's. I haven't really been following ROH lately, but I definately wouldn't mind seeing what they do with these....

SamoaRowe - January 23, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah, these two shows should be purchase worthy.

Plague and I are hopefully going to ROH this Friday. It'll depend on the weather.

Real F'n Show - January 23, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
If the shows are half as good as the last time they left the country (for the UK shows) they should be excellent. And I'm guessing they'll be about ten times better with less Doug Williams and more NOAH and Dragon Gate guys.

I always liked Doug Williams.

But yeah, NOAH guys are much better......although Doug Williams wrestled in NOAH......I think my head just exploded.

Real F'n Show - January 23, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
That was my goal.

whitemilesdavis - January 23, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
I like Doug too. Much better than Nigel in my opinion. (Haven't seen much of Nigel lately.)

Real F'n Show - January 23, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
You're missing out. Nigel's been boss this year.

And I'm not hating on Doug Williams, he's just one of those bland "Chad Collyer" types that I neither like nor hate. Just kind of occupies space I guess.

Mad Dog - January 23, 2007 09:21 PM (GMT)
I like Doug Williams from what little I get to see of him. He was a lot better than a lot of the garbage RoH was pushing in the early days. But then Scoot Andrews was as well.

dynamite kido - January 23, 2007 09:21 PM (GMT)
I would have agreed with WMD at one time, but I think Nigel has surpassed Doug....

Mad Dog - January 23, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
I like Nigel when he shows up outside of RoH. In RoH he's fairly boring but that could be an opponent thing more than anything else.

whitemilesdavis - January 23, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
I did like the Nigel/ Danielson match where Nigel busted hi gorde on the ring post. That was cool.

Umm yeah...I always liked Collyer too.

I actually have to agree with that. I like Williams, too. He's talented and he's not that bad on the stick (from what I have seen). He's different charasmatically because he's simple, but he has a certain intensity and passion.

Yet, there is still something overall that I cannot get into.

...Minus the Chaos Theory.

SamoaRowe - January 24, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
The only times I've ever really gotten into Williams matches were against Danielson at Road to the Title and the four way at Crowning a Champion. I haven't been as enthused with him otherwise, but those two performances are just fantastic to me.

I've been a Collyer fan since his match against Jay Lethal at my first ROH show. I sat there thinking, "This is like watching a classic NWA match. WHOA. FUCK YEAH!!!"

That card in Braintree is so fucking rediculously good. You said you were goin to that show, right Rowe?

And Roh in Japan? Fuck my ass that is incredibly awesome.

Yeah, I'm planning on going as long as the weather holds up. Hell, at this point I might even go if the weather sucks, the card looks that good.

dynamite kido - January 24, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
Dude, ROH should offer some type of travel package for US fans for the Japan shows. Depending on price I would seriously consider that shit.

I probably still wouldn't be able to afford it, but that is a great idea. I wonder if they've thought about the possibility.

whitemilesdavis - January 24, 2007 08:29 PM (GMT)
We should start a DWB tour company like that one guy used to do. You know, go to Japan and catch shows, sleep in YMCA's, tht kind of thing. I vaguely remember some guy online setting that up a few years ago.

Real F'n Show - January 24, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
I figured everyone here was a poor bum like me :)

SamoaRowe - January 24, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
That's okay, RFS, I'm not exactly in a situation to realistically take part in this either.

whitemilesdavis - January 25, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
Screw it, I'm paying.

I know George Mayfield used to do that.
