I just bought a Pearls Before Swine Treasury and am loving it. I'm also a big Get Fuzzy fan.

I always like Big Nate and Garfield in the comics. And Dilbert too.

eStragand - October 24, 2006 10:25 PM (GMT)
AHEM...technically, this should not be in COMIC BOOKS... since they're two different mediums. Pet peeve of mine.

Monty is usually one of my favorites. Sometimes they get so involved with a continuing satire plot that the humor is ruined. Last year they did an incredibly un-funny LOST parody and at least once a year there's a Star Trek story. The only exception was when Monty wanted to join the Star Trek club, but it was full. So he joined the medieval club and pretended to be a Star Trek guy sent back in time. His buddy Moondog said: "Wait....I'm pretending to go back in time to BEFORE we had this conversation".

Non Sequitur will have some hilarious gags. I prefer the random one-panel gags, rather than the continuing stories of Danae and her dad.

I used to read the lame adventures of Alley Oop until my paper pulled it, last year.

Get Fuzzy is okay..but I'm not too big on the awful feline and canine puns that are often the punchline. I think: "huh? THAT'S your joke for the day!?", then roll my eyes. But Chubby Huggs gives me pants-pissing laughter.

Foxtrot has been my favorite newspaper strip for a long time.

Big F'N Swigg - October 24, 2006 11:19 PM (GMT)
I'm a huge fan of Zits, Garfield, Dilbert and Foxtrot

Mad Dog - October 24, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)
I used to like Dilbert but I think the quality has been on a steady decline since the late 90s or so.

I also like Get Fuzzy but I could see that hitting the wall in a couple of years. In my experience most strips seem to take a quality dive at about the 10 year mark. I think it also has a lot to do with the creator getting older and the world view shift that comes from that.

I forgot to add that I'm also a fan of the old Far Side comic strips.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 25, 2006 12:49 AM (GMT)
I always loved FoxTrot, Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County, and yes, even Garfield. Great stuff.

SamoaRowe - October 25, 2006 03:06 AM (GMT)
I got a free Over The Hedge book at my Best Buy, and it's pretty good.

My all time favorite: Calvin and Hobbes

Other favorites: The Far Side, Dilbert, Fox Trot, Lucky Cow, Doonesbury, Get Fuzzy, Adam (before it got all shitty), and some others.

Guys..not trying to troll...but seriously, FoxTrot?

Why not Nancy?

Real F'n Show - October 25, 2006 03:24 AM (GMT)
Forgot Zits, love that one too. I still read Blondie regularly also.

Drabble has had its moments over the years. They had a pro wrestler named "Cactus Jack" years before Mick Foley came along (although I'm sure Foley made up some BS story about how he "really" picked the name).

Which one is Nancy?

Anyways, I like Foxtrot because it's always been funny. The nerd humor was rare for comic strips at the time and it really set the stage for webcomics with the subject matter. Now granted it's not what it was. But then not everything can be good from start to finish like Calvin and Hobbes. And that was really a case of getting out early.

He and his dad played in one of those by mail wrestling leagues in the 70s and his dad went by Cactus Jack for his character.

Fox Trot used to be consistently awesome on a regular basis, but it doesn't really do much for me these past few years. I have the original treasury though, and it's brilliant.

By Nancy, I mean the ultra-lame strip from the 20's. I think it's still running.

Admit it..you like Funky Winkerbean, too

To take this on an odd sidenote. Do they sell Li'l Abner in collections?

I've always wanted to read Abner but it's damn hard to find the stuff. I might have to buy one of those and check it out.

eStragand - October 25, 2006 08:46 PM (GMT)
Umm..if you DO decide to buy one.... use those links (hint hint).
