| Ring of Honor will be giving former WWE stars Brent (Gunner Scott) Albright and Tank Toland (Chad Dick) a look next week in Dayton, Ohio since both are from the Louisville, Kentucky area. ROH is looking for some new faces to freshen up their cards, which is why Zach Gowen (possibly coming back and used in the new ROH Video Wire, seen above) and M-Dogg 20 (returning in Dayton using the name Matt Cross) were given shots in the Midwest last week. |
Looks like Albright has already bounced back. So much for the 90 No-Compete clause.
whitemilesdavis - October 13, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
The "No-Compete" Clause only relates to competition. ROH and other Indies have never been off limits.

Good news, everyone knows how good Albright is, but I bet Toland will surprise some people.
Big F'N Swigg - October 13, 2006 05:18 PM (GMT)
See, now I wish I was still in Dayton
Mad Dog - October 13, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
Ewww... M-Dogg? I thought RoH was supposed to be above indy garbage like him.

And the best part is the RoHbots don't make a peep about it. Of course if TNA picked him up they'd all be ragging on them about it.
whitemilesdavis - October 13, 2006 07:24 PM (GMT)
A 1-legged guy and a yard-tard. Yep, 2 strong pickups there.

I also like how everytime they come to Ohio they bring in some former OVW guy. Hey idiots, OVW doesn't actually operate in Ohio except for maybe the most southern parts of the state.
SamoaRowe - October 13, 2006 07:42 PM (GMT)
Albright and Toland going to RoH is an awesome thought. Gowen, not so much, though to be fair I don't remember too much bitching when he was getting shots with TNA (around the first Victory Road ppv). I'm not familiar enough with M-Dogg to have an opinion.

as far as I know, OVW doesn't run in Ohio at all. Though I believe the TV gets picked up on a small channel in Cincy
SamoaRowe - October 13, 2006 07:44 PM (GMT)
If OVW isn't run in Ohio, that leads me to wonder why it's called "Ohio Valley Wrestling." Any thoughts?
Mad Dog - October 13, 2006 07:48 PM (GMT)
Because Kentucky is in the Ohio Valley. Just like the Ohio River doesnt technically actually flow through Ohio.

I wasn't 100% sure. I know they hit Indiana from time to time so I thought maybe they hit one of smaller border towns or something.

if they hit the border towns, it would have to be in Eastern Ohio. If they came to SW Ohio, I'd have went.

Oh, okay, that makes sense. I was beginning to consider starting a Maine Wrestling League and then never go into Maine... just for laughs or something.

Well, the Ohio Valley is technically from Indiana to Kentucky, from what I've gathered.
I think it is actually based off of what the Native Americans used to call the area.

Didn't Matt Hardy need to wait 90 days before he showed up in RoH?
Mad Dog - October 13, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah, most of the things like that that don't make sense are because it was named that way before the states actually existed.
