Title: I still love wrestling.
Description: A new positive thread.

SamoaRowe - October 2, 2006 10:57 PM (GMT)
This may seem strange in the days of the cynical IWC, but let this thread be a place to discuss all the good parts about watching wrestling.

For example, today is Monday and for whatever reason I'm looking forward to watching Raw tonight. Maybe it's because I'm a smarky smark who likes to analyze things, or I'm a mark who wants to see the two title matches. Either way, unless something incredibly stupid goes down on Raw, I'll be watching tonight.

So join me in discussing the things in wrestling we still enjoy.

I agree with you. Monday is still all about RAW, regardless of what I thought of the week before. I'm looking forward to watching the main event tonight, even if I'm recording Heroes and Studio 60 over it.

And I watched the Pillman documentary, which was GREAT.

I don't watch WWE much anymore outside of Smackdown. And even that's a FF through 90% of it half of the time.

I do still love wrestling and get my weekly fill through Impact!, NWA Anarchy, CAPW and NWA Virginia.

I will always be entertained by wrestling, no matter how crappy it is, no matter how offensive or stupid the gimmicks are. They can't take that away from me.

It's weird because I haven't watched a Raw or Smackdown in several months being in college. I have caught TNA twice. Mostly what I've been watching is stuff I've been downloading. Things I love:

Averno and Mephisto.

New Japan Jrs. of the early to mid 1990's.

Gordon Solie.

The crazy motherfuckers of Big Japan.

Nakajima's german.

Shuji Kondo, Fuerza Guerrera, and Mike Quackenbush.

Smackdown was really good this week. And Raw wasn't half bad either. I'm also looking forward to how WWE looks in this new "clean" era.

There are a lot of problems in wrestling, but I see a lot of potential for a bright future.

whitemilesdavis - September 3, 2007 02:46 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately, I don't right now. I'm still clinging to the past on DVD, but it still hasn't gotten to the point that I've stopped watching the current product. Hopefully sometyhing good can come out of the terrible situation that the wrestling world has been in lately.

Mad Dog - September 3, 2007 02:46 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty much done with WWE and TNA at the moment. My wrestling consists of 4/7, Mid-South DVDs and puro DVDs.

whitemilesdavis - September 3, 2007 02:48 AM (GMT)
I've dropped TNA off the radar completely, I'm usually doing a show on Friday nights, so Smackdown is out, but I do sit through RAW nearly every week. I just cling to the hope that the new thing is gonna break out soon, and I don't want to miss it.

Mad Dog - September 3, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
I've developed my own system. I get enough overtime at work to get 1 or 2 Mid-South DVDs every other week. So I get those and watch a single episode a week. It gives the feeling of following a promotion and all that. It just takes some self control on my part to not throw the next episode right in.

SamoaRowe - September 3, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)
Lately Raw has been entertaining to me. It's sort of the type of entertainment that I feel guilty for enjoying, but it isn't boring. It doesn't satisfy me from an in-ring standpoint, but I have DVDs to take care of that.

I'm still watching a lot of ROH. I'm also downloading a lot of other puro/indy stuff, and relying on youtube.

ECW is almost off my radar, but maybe I'll tune in more to see Punk's reign.

Impact is something I attempt to watch, but usually can't last more than 30 minutes.

Smackdown was good last week, but hasn't been doing it for me since the draft raped them.

Mad Dog - September 4, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
Honestly the old stuff seems to be enough for me. I could live on World Championship Wrestling on 24/7 and Mid-South alone if I had to. Though the Mid-South watching is fun. It's really what works for you. I just decided to stop watching promotions that didn't entertain me anymore. That seems to have made me less cynical towards wrestling as a whole.

I've thought about trying Chikara but the price turns me off everytime I think about it. I don't know if it's worth passing on Mid-South DVDs.

Big F'N Swigg - September 5, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
I get my kicks from my local indy. Something about the fact that they're not doing it for money makes it better to me.

SamoaRowe - September 5, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
I've been flirting with ordering some PWG. I haven't investigated CHIKARA at all, how expensive are they anyways?

Mad Dog - September 5, 2007 01:42 AM (GMT)
$20 a pop on DVDs but most of their wrestlers are hilarious. Especially Ultra Mantis Black.

Real F'n Show - September 5, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
CHIKARA is well worth it if you buy the right shows. Most shows are pretty great as far as I can tell, but I feel I get every penny out of the shows that are being praised on the 'net the most, which include the tag and trios tournaments, and some others. Haven't gotten any Torneo Cibernetico's yet. They sound too much like one-match shows to me, which they are supposed to be, but I can't warrant a purchase of a one match show for that much money, not matter how great or long the match is. I think it's psychological.

SamoaRowe - September 5, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
Personally, I don't think $20 is too much, if the match delivers in the ring. I still try to get deals for less, but when I think of "too much" I think of $30-ish.
